I picked this game up for $15 at GameStop, knowing practically nothing about it except "Ooo Digimon!" and honestly, that was WAY too low a price. Yeah there are some definite flaws in the game but it is really good for Digimon and I really do love building my Digimon team! You honestly got me hyped up to finish!

@@jonathansoko1085 the same can be said for downloads. The companies can take away your downloads at any point with a push of button but they can't take the cart away. J-star victory+ was removed form the psn store, I can no longer download the game I have to buy it physically to play it. Oh fuck its a reddit try hard "LOL copium dude" why do I even bother to waste words with a reddit moderator.

Literally one of my favorite games. It does have many flaws, but besides those, it's really good overall.

I retook the dive (since I beat both games on PlayStation) I got it digitally for $15
I would like to say digimon dose has a number of good games. It's just they have to compete with Pokemon so they experiment a bit to mixed results at times. But at least when they do make a good game it tends to be a doozy rather then the same exact game with a new region colored coat of paint.
Good review, but minor point: it was actually originally for the PlayStation Vita, so any dropped frames on the Switch version is probably a (relatively mild) optimization issue.

After the big deception of arceus, i spend 11 euro for this, and man, it's a f***ing good good game. Graphics, combat, artstyle, a really balanced game. It's a jrpg, so dialogs dialogs and dialogs, but it's less than cold steel or similar, but less stupid than pokemon arceus, and the animation is astonishing.
Whats your issue with arceus? There was no deception they delivered what they said they would just cause your little brain got excited for promises that were never made means nothing
First of all, love the vest you're wearing.
Secondly, how would you rate the difficulty of the game(s)? Because, as much as I love turn based JRPG's, so many of them are so easy that I easily get bored, with the only exception to that being Persona and Shin Megami Tensei. And while there will always be a place in my heart for Digimon, I don't want to get it if it's going to be "pokemon easy".
It is definitely not 'pokemon easy' and there may be times where you need to grind like crazy just to get ahead a little. There are also a variety of challenege missions in both games which can up the stakes significantly.
There are also a handful of ways to speed up the grinding section of the game with smart plays so you can keep the momentum moving.
It gives you the tools you need for the experience you want in very subtle ways.

Would you say the combat has more to it than Pokemon? I notice that Digi-volutions and de-volutions seem to be a mechanic somehow, and wondered if that plays into trading stat bonuses.
@@judgem0rt1s23 for combat, there are three main types, Data, Virus and Vaccine. They are your fire, water and grass equivalent, however, there are eight elements as well which can further increase or reduce damage. There is so a Free type which only scales damage of the elemental typing.
Its not as complicated as that sounds, there are even techniques to reverse the weaknesses of your opponent so you can punish a bad match up with the right set up. That's also where the pokemom similarities end.
Digivolution is very important. You can digivolve around and unlock key abilities from other digimon and use them on your final Mega or Ultra. Kinda like getting flamethrower on a Venusaur.
Finding abilities by dedigivolving and digivolving over and over also helps raise your ABI stat which helps unlock trainable stat boosts and late game Mega/Ultra forms, and fusions.

Its a beautiful turn based game and nowhere near as punishing as other Digimon titles.
Its so much damn fun my guy, I think it's worth every cent. Let me know what you think.
What if you could have a partner but it's only a sukamon
I actually have two questions.
1. On the PS4 you had Digimon Next Order. Here your Digimon sometimes died spontaneously, that's not the case here, is it? 😅
2. Can you fuse Digimon like some other games or do you follow the list of options?

1. Next Order is a different style of game and the 'Life Cycle' mechanic is not a feature. Your digimon play more like Pokemon in that way, get them and digivolve them as free as you like.
2. There are fusions, and you'll use a main digimon and it's stats while the second is used as a 'resource'. It is worth noting if you dedigivolve and try to go back up, you'll need to get another digimon to use for the fusion.
For example, you can use an ExVeemon and fuse it with Stingmon into Paildramon, but should you dedigivolve into ExVeemon, you'll need another Stingmon to get back to Paildramon.
Slightly clunky, but, the game does allow you a myriad of ways to get more digimon so it's only really a problem when fusing megas and higher, because if the investment.

I used to have Digimon on the DS and had a lot of fun collecting, but now that work comes into play I certainly don't have time for monsters that spontaneously go down 😅

Excellent review! I've been loving Digimon Survive so far (it's my first Digimon game) and I've been finding Digimon to be more interesting than Pokémon. I've been a Pokémon fan for decades but the franchise has been feeling stale for a while.
I ordered this for $20 and I'm really excited to get in to them. This looks to scratch that itch that Pokémon can't.
Just out of curiosity, have you played Legends Arceus? That's the first time I've felt a 3D Pokemon game was genuinely good, not just passable, since ORAS, though that may be personal bias. It does a lot of new things, and a lot of good things at that. Also, if you've started playing Cyber Sleuth, what are your thoughts? Digimon as a franchise has a ton of different things to offer. I'm personally very fond of the Digimon World games(specifically 1, re:digitize and Next Order as they share their style of gameplay) as those are more monster-raising games with combat than rpg-style and feel very unique, but I'm just as fond of CS and the other rpgs in the series.
@@Going4Broke2528 Yes I've played Arceus and I absolutely loved it. And I agree, it gave the franchise a much needed breath of fresh air and so many quality of life improvements. It honestly needs to be the blueprint for future games because they've become stale for a while. Unfortunately Scarlet/Violet don't seem to be following Arceus closely.
But yeah I'm about 35 hours in to Cyber Sleuth (just started Chapter 7) and I'm really loving the game so far. The story is really interesting and I like the world too. The battles are fun and I like how big your team can be. It's an excellent game so far that's really made me a big fan of Digimon. I can't wait to try out Hacker's Memory need. I would love to see a current gen of Digimon Story or another game in its style.

Yeah man, you get both the full games for the price of one. They can transfer data later too which is awesome.
Well, if I'm going to play a J-RPG, I would expect the voice over to be in Japanese with EN subs for the western audience, that's what defines a J-RPG imo
There is so much wrong with this game. Absolutely loads and I normally hate games that disappoint me even the slightest bit but for some reason I love this game. It is everything I hate, turn based combat, boring, nerdy dialogue, invisible bump encounters, long animations, even on short animation settings. I am at chapter 12 of Cybersleuth. I pick it up for about half a chapter about once a month, with the ocassional binge. I love it. I just really like it. For all of its faults I really enjoy it. For what SAO Hollow Realisation is for ARPG's this is the turn based counter part. Rubbish in so many ways, yet thoroughly enjoyable.
That's the power of a good game my guy. I am so glad you can find something to enjoy in it.
I feel like they somehow "dumb-down" the plot of the game.
It could be darker/grittier but they somehow make it tame to accommodate for younger audience who may/not attracted to Digimon premise....
But the evolution mechanics is so addictive for me that it override all the story flaws
