I'm glad to finally show yall the new video for Good Lord from the Truth Is Here EP that dropped a few weeks ago. The song is about spirituality and how it works alongside music. I get criticized from both angles on this issue. Some religious people say my music is too crude or obscene. People who hate religion say I talk about it too much. My feeling is that, when done right, spirituality and art are one and the same. The particular faith or medium of art almost doesnt matter. That connection to each other is what were seeking. Something spiritual happens when them hands get to clappin. My good friend Rik Cordero shot the video at a community event we did in the historic Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz Center in Harlem NY. This is the place where my hero, Malcolm X held his later meetings and was assassinated in 1965. If you pay attention, youll see Popmaster Fable (Rock Steady Crew) and Ali Shaheed Muhammad (Tribe Called Quest) along with a host of prominent Muslim teachers and activists. I'm a little pagan, but I like different things from each faith. Someone gave me a Quran, I accepted it with gratitude. I haven't read much yet. Obviously, I'm a white girl (lol) and a Southern one at that. So, when my family member saw it, he asked. I said - "Well yeah. I have a Quran, a Bible, a Book of Mormon, The Bhagavad Gita, and more...". He just looked at me. Lol. I don't think he was thrilled with a Southern home having a Quran or Wiccan books in it. Haha! I love learning. Brother Ali has a passion that isn't easily extingishued. If you've never seen him live, I recommend that you do. He's stellar.

I never truly understood the lyrics of I Tremble until I took my Shahada. I don't have the words but the best description I can summon is that I was gripped with this beautiful fear that can only be the Fear of Allah, while at the same time feeling His Grace & Mercy. It was humbling, overwhelming and comforting at the same time. Like I was blessed with the Best Gift one could be given yet at the same time there is a responsibility that comes with it.
