Dr felton doing a Churchill and German impersonation is exactly what I needed today.
Kind of hilarious.
He was a lot easier to understand than the real Churchill.
@AxemanTitan and a lot fewer beers deep. And champagne deep, and brandy, and congac and schnapps.
I was flabbergasted when I heard it. 😂
@Garivich I know on his war stories channel he has impersonated bomber Harris and a few others on the bridge busters series. And I think he has done chrurchill before but I can't remember where sorry.
I've learned more about WW2, from Dr. Felton in the last 3-4 years, than I did during my entire time in school! Thank you for the amazing videos!!
How many books have you read about WW2?
Schools just want you to praise your selected country, knowing the truth is banned lmao.
The war in Europe was so big and so many soldiers fighting, you would have spent years on years learning what these top-notch videos teach us. Now imagine adding the Japanese vs the world on top of it.
You aren't meant to learn in school.
@@ObedGarcia99 that's about the most honest, 100% accurate response I've ever had the privilege to read. 👍
I'm not sure what's more amazing about this video - the Churchill impression or how I've never heard of this incident before.
Churchill met Mussolini during the 1920s.
Mussolini's aides instructed Churchill not to smoke in the presence of Il Duce.
So Churchill lit up a big cigar and smoked it with glee throughout.
Churchill also remarked on Mussolini that he's "one of the most wonderful men of our time." His praise of Mussolini before the war is well documented, so using an anecdote to point him as critical of Mussolini is, well, wrong.
@@wrnprdkt Churchill saw communism as a greater threat.
Mussolini was widely seen as a dictator trying to modernise his impoverished country.
Nazi rearmament in the mid-30s was a defence against Stalin's USSR advancing westward.
My enemy's enemy is my friend.
It's in Churchill's book
I felt mark did a fine impersonation of Churchill.
I admire how Dr Felton can inform us of controversial remarks made by Winston Churchill in a non-political way. He leaves it up to us to make up our own minds. Also, the impression is excellent.
The pro-Hitler/Mussolini comments by Churchill have to be put into context. A the time, many people in Europe in the 1930's feared Stalinism/Leninism more than they feared Fascism. Communists nationalize property & industry & get rid of religion. The true horrors of Nazism became apparent during the blitz & when the concentration camps became liberated...it's commendable that Mark has the courage to provide these lessor known obscure comments made by Churchill, & then to let us make up our own minds.
And that is what makes him one of the best historians of our time, alot of the tv and movie documentaries you watch the historians force their view points on you and because they are historians with PhDs you then adopt their pov
Interested to know . How u conclude Churchills perosnality.
it's not controversial, thats just Churchy, what about the time he did a genocide, if Dr Marky Mark hasnt done a video about that, so I think you will find that he is not as open as you think, he decides what to present on his channel and is no more unbiased than anyone else, that doesnt make him better or worse, just human.
I think Winnie was going with the enemy of my enemy is my friend route that many took viewing fascism as a barrier to Communism, and it should not be a surprise as many leading figures from Western Europe and the USA looked on Hitler and the Nazi Party with a positive light.
Considering how Hitler shocked Chamberlain in their 1938 summit, this would've had a real chance of being an animated exchange
Shocked how?
@@PanzerBuyer Hitler at one point rose from his seat in an outburst about the persecution of German minorities
Historically Chamberlain gets a very bad wrap, not least of which is dealt by Winston Churchill in his very unkind memoirs. Neville Chamberlain was a very accomplished politician both domestically and internationally and in fact after their meetings Hitler raged at his assistants that Chamberlain had in effect "scammed " him. Chamberlain may well have been guilty of being a touch naïve when it came to Hitler , but at the very least he garnered another crucial eighteen months for the UK armed forces to rebuild. I can refer you to a very concise documentary on Neville Chamberlain that is very illuminating.
What documentary?
@@johnstirling6597 True, I think people think the Interwar was like the Cold War and everyone had massive stockpiles of weapons ready as in reality ... it was more, the Great War bankrupt most of their participants and there was a economical depression so nobody was ready for another large conflict, including Germany.
About 25 years ago, I was lucky enough to find Churchill's 6 volume set of The Second World War, in paperback, at a Goodwill for $2 each. They were (are) in miraculously good condition, and all together on the shelf, which was very surprising. Goodwill is not known gor properly displaying their book selection.
It is obviously a natural inclination to hear Churchill's voice in your head when reading his writings (as I know I do) or doing your best Churchill impersonation while reading his quotes.
I'm partly through reading the same book and Churchill mentions the chance to meet Hitler in one of the early volumes (the first if I'm not mistaken).
“Nevaar,..in the field,..of human conflict...”. (I would have to play it at 1.25, I think?).
In the 1990s..many WW2 Veterans pasted away..I picked up many Great books..From the 1920s to 1960s...
@MidwesternCorn
I bought the set and read them cover to cover. I found it fascinating to read about the world into which I was born in 1944.
If you found them informative try his three volume biography "The Last Lion" to fill in the gaps of his early life.
The parallels with Zelensky of Ukraine are incredible.
SLAVA UKRAINE 🇨🇦🕊️🇺🇦
@@ronwilken5219 - What do you know of Zelensky?! What the media told you about him?! He is NO Churchill! He’s another corrupt, antisemite, politician.
Yet another certified hood classic

Bravo Dr Felton!
Haha had to get the heart for that one
🐴👌
Your impersonation of Churchill was funny and convincing
The BEST impersonation of Churchill comes from the Mel Brookes movie, "The Producers".
A deranged Nazi pigeon-fancier wearing a German helmet.
It's where we also learn the Fuhrer was a great dancer.
Was it
@@jon2813 hhahah
It was as if Winston was whispering in my ear! If this all falls through one day, Dr Felton at least has a backup plan as a fine impersonator. Very very interesting story, I never knew they almost met!
@@michaelram3411 you’ve missed your meds again?
I still have a copy of a series titled: Churchill, The Wilderness Years. A dramatization of Churchill 's time in the 1930s until his accession as PM in 1940. It stars Robert Hardy (still my favorite WSC) and has this moment of a possible meeting with Hitler in an early episode. It is still a great drama of Churchill and the major events during those times.
Thank you, I will look for this.
Yes it is truly excellent
This TV series has a sequence in which Churchill is attending a joyful event, with Hitler outside in the rain, glaring through a window. The creators said at the time that this sequence was imaginary, but they included it for its dramatic effect.
I live for Dr. Felton's Churchill impressions
I can't wait for his Roosevelt impersonation!
so I assume you have the CZcamss on a loop, what if theres a power cut? I hope you have a back up generator
That fatso, called churchill, was a bloodthirsty r@sict,zi@nist rabid d@g that killed tens of millions of innocent people with pleasure and the main responsable for ww2
I love Dr. Felton's impersonations!
These Churchill impressions always get me 😆 they are on point 😆👌 well done Mr Felton
Coffee with Hitler sounds like a sequel to "Tea with Mussolini".
lol
Mussolini was basically a British agent in WW1, in 1917 he was paid 100 pounds per week (10.000 in today money) to write pro-British propaganda in Italian newspaper.
The ardour you delivered your Churchill in character was sublime , fantastic, very informative as always. May your great efforts continue
The stories are always interesting, but also really enjoy all the pictures and clips you managed to collect on the subjects. Thanks for all your content dr. Felton
Totally agree! Dr. Felton rocks.
I found a lot of stories in Hanfstaengl’s work to be hard to believe and I dismissed this story alongside others so I’m glad you did a video on it. His memoir is, ultimately, very interesting and important.
"Churchill's Deception", by Louis C. Kilzer also contains a discussion of this proposed meeting. The book is about the contacts between Churchill's government and Hitler's government which lead to Rudolf Hess' flight to Britain, in 1941. Another interesting book on the subject is "The Hitler/Hess Deception", by Martin Ross.
Do never believe the official propaganda made by foes or friends.
Churchill was not a man sent by God to save England.
Remember Gallipoli, his plans to attack the Soviet Union invading Norway in support of Finland, the useless campaigns at Greece and Crete, the fruitless slaughter at Italy, the confidence abuse in Market Garden and how Churchill agreed the plans of Stalin to subjugate Eastern Europe in exchange of absolutely nothing for the UK or nobody else.
The best thing he did in his whole life was to pay a new mansion at Barbados for he and his family. Because years later the Monty Python isolated themselves in that place to write the script of "Life of Brian".
After the War Winston was having dinner seated across from Anthony Eden whose niece I dated in college. Eden said that at the Munich conference, where Eden was Foreign Minister, he was talking to Hitler. It turned out that they were both engaged on the same part of France in WW1; in fact, they discovered, they may have been as little as 200 yards away from each other across the trenches. Winston leaned across the table and looked hard at Eden's face and said: "And you missed!"
Mark Felton rocks!!! I look forward to your stories/videos every week. Thank you so much for the work and research you put into these. The quality of content you produce is truly awesome.
"One simply cannot make a CZcams video about Churchill without doing the voice."
- Dr Mark Felton, circa 1959
I'm sure Dr Felton will validate this historical quote.

@@notchwatches That must be you then.
Love the Churchill impression! More please! When you think about it, at the time Churchill suggested an alliance of England, France and Germany against the Soviet Union it wasn't a bad idea. The ultimate alliance of the Allies with Russia was the ultimate instance of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" on the world stage.
@@daibhidhSCO I used shorthand, so beat me. 😡
Sounds like today world and Ukraine. Ukraine in 2014 banned opposition parties that had like almost half off the votes..so practically it became dictatorship if you ban half off votes ,but west saw it as great Allie against Russia and just throw everything under carpet
Two interesting recent books:
"Winston's War", by Max Hastings
"Stalin's War", by Sean McMeekin
"Churchill's Third World War-British Plans to Attack the Soviet Empire", by Jonathan Walker
Well then England, a democratic country, would have become an ally of National Socialism and everything that that entailed e.g. the final solution.
Unfortunately, England and France have made a mess of it with Germany twice in the 20th century. That is also the reason why we Germans do not really participate in the Ukraine war now. After all, the West cannot be trusted either.
Wow Dr. Felton how did you manage to get these audio recording of Winston Churchill? you truly must be the greatest historian on youtube if you can pull that off.
I realize you're joking but I read what purported to be a true anecdote from an employee working in a bookstore that I found hilarious. A woman came into the store and asked if they carried books on tape where the author read his own work. The employee assured her they did. "Excellent!", declared the customer, "I've always been curious to hear Shakespeare's voice!"
The Churchill impression is on point
I've sure I've said this before, but this channel is an absolute treasure trove and I admire the work that you do. It must be so difficult to monetise!!!
A great and interesting video and a very interesting episode from history I have never heard of.Have a good one Mr.Felton let your vocal cords serve you well for many more years.
Dr Felton this was really a different video, but in a really good way, your imitations of Churchill were magnificent and gave a lot of immersion to the video.
Kudos for this video. From information to voice talent -AWESOME! Thank you!
My dog is an English Golden Retriever so we named him Winston haha. Great video
Wish they taught history in my country the way you do Dr. Felton👍
Dr. Felton, you make history fun. Love your channel
Very enjoyable as always. Thank you Dr. Felton.
Amazing how much important history is hidden from the masses for their own good. Just finished Shelby Footes Civil War history and am amazed what is withheld in history books.
Not sure about the "for theor own good" part. It's problematic when history is so censored. Also hero worship in general is problematic, and it's good that people see also the bad of their heroes.
@Matti True. Suppose it might be for the benefit of the historian. The winner writes the history books. Stories were told in Russia during the revolution of masses, locking themselves in churches and committing suicide by fire. My wife's ancestors were there and it was quite the opposite.
Can recommend A. J. P. Taylor’s «The Origins of the Second World War» from 1961. Very illuminating regarding the geopolitical and diplomatic events that caused it all to break out.
@Vingul Sounds like a good one. Hopefully, not four thousand pages like this narrative
@@guylelanglois6642 Lol. It’s a little under 300 pages, quite manageable!
Excellent work, Mark! My personal bit of history: My grandfather on my father's side went to primary school with Adolph Hitler.
One of my friends from university had a grandfather that went to school with Chairman Mao.
Your grandfather on your father’s side? A couple of problems with that story.
1: Your patrilineal grandfather would have the same surname you have. Unless you’re using a fake name, Matthews is not a German surname at all.
2: You didn’t even spell Adolf correctly.
@@oilersridersbluejays Gee, sorry that I upset your apple cart. I don't feel that there is a need to explain my surname to you, but if it will make your pissy-fit attitude happy, my real surname is Merta, distantly related to General Emanuel Von Merta of the Austria-Hungary Army. And apologies for incorrectly spelling Hitler's first name. I understand that it upset you very much.
You’re the one being all defensive. I was just questioning your validity.
Liberals these days…
@@oilersridersbluejays You started this, so if you don't want flak, don't fire the first shot. You could have asked rather than attacked my comment. I'll leave it at that.
Awesome! Felton Production is THE BEST
Absolutely fascinating, Dr. Felton. Thank you.
Thank you for not having stupid, irritating and totally unuseful digital background cacophony that spoils every good documentary nowadays.
If Hitler had shown up at the dinner, he'd have asked for a separate Czech.
In 1932, Hitlers main priority was the Ruhr valley temporarily controlled by the french. Crazy how Hitler never wanted a war against Great Britain, his book Mein Kampf said so and during and after the battle of dunkirk. Soviet Union invades twice to Poland right after WW 1 and 1939 and no country declares war towards the Soviet Union despite the massacres and death sentences to the gulags towards the polish people during world war 2 without a single conviction towards the soviets soldiers.
TOUCHE
I find Mark Felton's Productions addictively moreish and he is extremely adept at squeezing these gems from the historical landscape. At once both highly entertaining and educational, if only he had been a history teacher at my school. Excellent! And as others have commented, not bad at all in impersonating his subject matter either.
Wow, another great I Didn't Know That historic documentary video.
Thanks again Mark Felton Productions!
How interesting! I did not know that. Thanks Mark for bringing yet another little known historical story to light. Given later events I can well understand why Churchill's earlier positive statements about Hitler and Mussolini are not widely known.
That Churchill impression was amazing
Wasn't it! It sounds just like when he talked to you in person the first time!
Thank you for all that you do !!!
Amazing! This is the only channel with courage to speech the truth and the true facts. Such a honor to be part of these people who appreaciate the truth and have no prejudices about themes like these.
I know this story and remember it well. We had to read it in the English classes of my Dutch school all the way back in 1963. The story was in Churchill´s own words so I suppose it was a quote from his memoires. I also remember Churchill writing¨ this was the only time me and herr Hitler had an opportunety to meet. Later on too much had happened and a meeting would have been improper and out of the question.¨Thanks for reviving these lessons , illustrated as always with great photo material. Now I am still curious...who was the Dutchman Hitler was talking to in the door opening of his Munich home?
Philips ?
That's a good question. I was wondering that as well...
4:44 Mark doing his best Churchill impression.
Ok
Great video as always Mark, and easily the second best Churchill impression after Lazerpig's.
great video and excellent perspective on this topic
Your Churchill imitation was spot on 🤣
I still think the most interesting meeting between Churchill and another WW2 leader was the meeting with Irish PM De Valera.
They spent the entirety of WW2 at each other throats; sending personal messages back and forth threatening to go to war at each other. (but never meet each other during WW2)
And then they just randomly bump into each other at a party one day after WW2, and De Valera finally realizes Churchill's animated personality and that De Valera should not have taken Churchill that seriously during WW2 and that's the way Churchill was towards everyone, even his friends.
simply amazing - I never knew about this, and Churchill's words of compliment, even better! and thanks a lot, Mark, now I want an audio book series of Churchill's works read by you in your impersonation voice!
So nice that Mark was able to get Churchill on to voice his quotes!
“The unforgivable sin of Hitler’s Germany was to develop a new economic system by which the international bankers were deprived of their profits.”
- Winston Churchill
Wake up babe new Mark Felton video
Such an excellent channel!
THANKS. Great vid. I love your descending into the Winston Drawl, as I call it. It is the easiest British accent to affect. I once used it (causing offense) in a deans' meeting with our Welsh provost (this is in Pennsylvania) when I associated my stint as the cabinet secretary with Winston's well-known dict: 'History will not look kindly on poor Neville. I know, because I'm going to write it.' The Brits are prickly about attempts to mimic them.
Sadly I never got to take History as a GCSE as there wasn't enough people wanting to do the class I was told 😕 wish I could have taken that path but sadly not. But still Dr M makes me feel like I achieved something with his constant uploads to my ever growing knowledge. Cheers Dr. M
Catch up later, as now. I was privileged to have teachers who fought in the war, and good men, solid men, who carried respect with them as if wearing a coat. Some of the stories they told were sobering, the real price paid.
I don't think I've ever heard "Hitler" and "putting the world to rights" in the same sentence before. 😄
Well done, dr Felton!
Thank you mark for being the best history teacher
I especially loved the faux Churchill accent. 🙂 Thanks for making these videos.
Brilliant Churchill voice over
The beat thing about this channel is that it's just objective facts told in an engaging way. This has really fed into my love of WW2 history.
Well done Mr. Felton. Expert historical commentary and added benefit of impersonations of famous world leaders.
One historian impersonating another. We can only hope that you consider the PM job in later years like Churchill.😉
Great video!
And on and on it goes.
Teetotaler vs Drinker, it was never going to work.
So glad you got Churchill in the studio. Most people wouldn't, but you go that extra mile.
Man to be a fly on the wall of that almost-conversation.
"antisemitism may be a good starter, but is a bad sticker" this is literally New England humor in a nutshell lmaoo
J.F.K. had a lot of positive comments about A.H. in Life magazine. Nobody talks about them either. Or F.D.R and Mussolini writing each other. It's funny how things get forgotten.
''F.D.R and Mussolini writing each other''
Nice out of context bullshit there, Mussolini wrote frequently to FDR seeing as a lot of Italian immigrants had recently moved there and he wished for them to be properly taken care of.
''had a lot of positive comments about A.H. in Life magazine.''
Calling a great leader, a great leader, how fucking weird is that.
As an impersonator, Dr. Felton is a fantastic historian.
In other words, "Don't quit your day job" 😁
Always a great day when an episode comes from Dr. Mark Felton!
I remember meeting Hitler in person at a local Aldi, and I asked him if I could take a picture. He said "I don't know, CAN you?". He then stabbed me 78 times and stole my arteries while doing the default dance from Fortnite ™️ as I bled to death on the floor. That wasn't really cool, Hitler. I really miss my arteries. Please give them back.
You don't shop at Aldi.
This channel is the gift that keeps on giving. Thank you Mark!
Best fact finding and true history Channel. 👍
You do a good Churchill imitation....
Great video!
what a pleasant surprise Mark. Thanks
That was just awesome! Definitely turned my Sunday around.
Mark Felton voice acting Winston Churchill's should win an Academy award.
Hi Mark - I’ve been really enjoying your videos lately, thanks for the great content. I would love to see you discuss Henry Tandey sparing Hitler’s life in WWI. To my limited knowledge, this is an extremely compelling story that is of dubious historical veracity at best. I’d love to hear you discuss the evidence for and against it, and recall how the story came about in the first place.
Well done mate! Greetings from Guernsey 🇬🇬
Hi Mark, excellent video as always. Is there anywhere we can download the .mp3 sound bites of Churchills actual voice from back in the 30s please?

Dr. Felton- Excellent mini-doc, as usual… And honorable mention must go to your Mussolini impersonation! Brilliant! 😂
A very balanced view of Churchill,

Sir, thank you for this very insightful presentation. No doubt history, diplomacy (being generous here perhaps?) and the nuances of political posturing and wrangling habitually turn the 'canvas' into an image of more various shades of grey that we'd been previously led to believe.
Mussolini reminds me of Homer Simpson. Every time. Lol.
Putzi would make an interesting subject in his own right, esp. his fall from the inner circle. Thank you, Mark, for your channel. I always either learn something I never knew, or I learn new details about something with which I am familiar. Brilliant.
