When Dr. Felton mentions watches, I assume he's talking about wristwatches. Recently a wristwatch owned by Hitler was sold at auction for $1.1 million US dollars. Interestingly, Hitler rarely wore a wristwatch. Hitler was 25 years old when WWI began. He was really more a product of the 19th century than the 20th. Prior to WWI wristwatches were considered jeweler for women. WWI was the first war to employ combined arms tactics on a large scale. Such tactics required precision timing, so military men began strapping watches to their wrists out of practicality. Many of those WWI wristwatches (today know as 'trench watches') were cobbled together from smaller diameter pocket watches. Overnight wristwatches went from being a woman's bauble to something practical and very butch. After the Great War wristwatches very quickly displaced pocket watches as the preferred timepiece for men. Elderly men, resisted and continued to carry pocket watches. Interestingly Hitler also avoided wristwatches, which he considered to be effeminate. Hitler also had the advantage of having some flunkies always ready to tell him the time.
I wonder if it was the real thing? A phone purported to be Hitler’s from the bunker, was sold a few years ago. Though it was found out later to be a fake.

This is incredible! And it’s a shame how many historical items are lost, forgotten, stolen, destroyed, or ended up in the basement of some museum and never seen again. Hitler’s DNA would certainly answer many questions.

When I was reading your comment I thought at first it read as "..items are lost, forgotten, Stalin, or destroyed".. I was thinking, "Yes many items lost, yes forgotten, Stalin..yes had definitely did his part.." then I saw destroyed and thought you were being repetitive by saying Stalin and destroyed.. I found found it funny which mean no one else will.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, it's a dam shame so many historical items were "destroyed" and or disappeared.

I know it's somewhat taboo, but I do wish the suit was in a museum, as well as the other looted items.
The only value of Hitler's tattered uniform is that it shows some on his side knew he was a monster and tried to stop him.

The uniform Franz von Ferdinand used when he was shot in 1914 is also in a museum. Hitlers uniform is not a taboo, it would be historical item in the case it still exists today.
Showing such items are a process of historical reappraisal, which is important. Doing it in the way of Austria (by trying to tear down his birth house just a few years ago) is wrong.
As years go by, more and more collectors are willing to donate their historical items to museums.

The last part of the video about artifacts hidden in people’s attics causes me to wonder how many artifacts have gone into the trash or will go in the trash due to surviving family members tossing all the deceased WW2 Vet’s items not realizing (or caring) what they were discarding. This. My own great great uncles ww1 medals probably went into the trash when my aunt and a cousin cleaned out my grandmothers house after she passed.
I think most of that happens because the vet did not leave a verbal or written account of his service. 2 or 3 or 4 generations later nobody knows what they represent. Also a lot of old folks houses are cleaned out by trash disposers who's only job is to get rid of the "junk".

I agree with Mark! I have done several "house cleanouts" for friends and family years ago. The house was being sold and the dumpster was partially full when I got there. I started "dumpster diving" in as soon as family members told me he was a World War II vet who had fought in Germany. I returned to show them what I found in the dumpster. I told them all these items are historic and valuable! Many photos of German soldiers, Hitler youth pins, wound badge, Nazi pins, clothing,ect..they eventually said keep whatever you find. The only item they kept was an SS dagger.

I think a museum would have been interested in acquiring those artifacts.
So I found a (Nazi) German Iron Cross in my ex’s aunt’s apartment after she had passed away. It was actually kinda shocking to everyone because no one was aware that she had any affiliation with anyone involved in either collecting OR WWII. It’s still a mystery where it came from (as far as I’m aware - I try not to talk to anyone over there), but while it was very grimy, I found it wrapped in a handkerchief in the corner of her top dresser drawer. This is not something she would have purchased online either, she was very old fashioned in that way… only used cash and checks, outside of apparently calling her stock brokers.
That’s incredible, it is the right thing to do giving the items back but…maybe they would have been better in your hands you enjoy history and know probably more than they do you would have given them to a museum or put them on the internet for the world to see and tell your story
SS daggers go for 3-10 thousand dollars depending on the age wear and what type it was

My grandfather fought in ww2 he’d tell me some crazy stories he had a saving private Ryan moment he fought with his brothers in the army and he lost two of them and no one come to save him
His garage was full of old things he kept some cool and some not so cool things but all his ww2 items where in the garage and the roof caved in we couldn’t get into it to save anything
In the end the council had to come and basically scoop and dump everything in that garage I was so sad
Things my grandfather fought for even family things my dads childhood memories where in there
My one regret in life is that I couldn’t go in to try find my grandfathers things

My dad .. Mst. Sgt. Frank Massoletti; 82nd Airborne drew the first guard duty on the Reichsbank at Frankfurt. He described currencies, bullion, etc., stacked very high, he said. But he had forgotten to draw ammunition, and sent his Sergeant to draw some. I said, " You were in the middle of a war, with no ammunition? ". But i guess that's the way the military does things behind the lines.
That honestly don't surprise me. The military is one big shit show. The only you win a war is because you're somehow able to make the enemy's military an even bigger shit show

@@LuvBorderCollies He and his platoon were fully armed, he carried a Thompson .45 submachine gun, and his .45 auto pistol. I certainly thought that was a strange interlude. He was embarrassed, and they were defenseless until their ammunition arrived. He ended in Berlin, where the 82nd/ 101st Airborne performed an exhibition jump for the Russians. He said they were all full of themselves. It was not my place to remark to him that they had the right, having done 3/4s of the fighting.

The uncle of a friend in Minnesota drew guard duty at the Berghof at Berchtesgaden, and had in his possession a fortune in Nazi silver tableware and plates, all bearing swastika insignia, Nazi stationary, and i myself held a stack of Ribbentrops' calling cards, with just his name. There, that's even grander.

As a currency collector I'm also curious what happened to the the 10 British pounds and 1,000 U.S Dollars Eva and Hitler owned and what were they for.

these would of course been the old British pound note which was huge almost a4 I wish these people (and they are out there ) who have these items locked in a safe in a cellar would give them to a museum
@@derek-press It would depend on the denominations. The £5 notes were large banknotes with a complex watermark that was difficult to counterfeit (didn't stop the Nazis _trying_ though), but the £1 and 10/- notes were small and wallet friendly.

NO DOUBT in my mind that the Uniform is now part of a Private collection. There is no way it was burned.

An issue with the blood on Hitler's uniform is that it may not JUST be Hitler's blood because of all the other people who were killed or wounded by the bomb.

But there are known relatives of Hitler. So if various blood stains were analyzed, and compared to DNA from known relatives, it should be possible to find blood stains that were only from Hitler.

In the late '70s or early '80s I attended a gun show in St. Louis. Among the many supposedly authentic Nazi items displayed for sale was a framed pair of Eva Braun's underwear, complete with a letter of authenticity. I laughed then and I laugh now, wondering both why anyone would want them and how in the world the "letter of authenticity" was supposedly obtained. If I recall correctly, the listed price was $400, which was a LOT of money back then.

I think you underestimate the sensitivities regarding Hitler's memorabilia. His house was demolished, the bunker was hidden under a car park and I myself came across (alledgedly) the car of Göring around 1995, a long time after the war. It was standing in the open, behind a Dutch car museum. I found that strange for such a beautiful car to be so neglected and when asked, a staff member of the museum told me that the museum did not know what to do with it. They did not want to display or sell it, as it was feared it would be a Nazi symbol. 50 years after the war....

In the 1930's the swastika wasn't quite the obnoxious symbol to the Western World that it would eventually become. For some people yes, but far from all.

When you mentioned US forces rounding up SS officers for interrogation after the war, I could not help but think that our long-standing mayor (43 years and counting) here in Hodgkins, IL; Noel Cummings, may have been one of those US soldiers. His Honor has often said how, after enlisting in the army in 1945, he was sent to Germany precisely to hunt down former SS officers. Mayor Cummings turns 95 in October, but still has his faculties, and could make for an interesting interview.

I find it odd that a megalomaniac like Hitler would want all his earthly posessions destroyed, instead of having them be revered as relics by his future followers. Part of him would live on through them.

Every time I hear about Hitler and his last moments, it makes me think about how tragic everything was. What he and other men his age went through is both amazing and sad. Hitler was of age when he fought in WWI, was involved with the political unrest of the aftermath of WWI, and then created the second world war. His whole adult life was consumed with violence and death. I'm not giving any excuses to Hitler, but he was alive (along with many others) at a time of the most horrible events in history, and makes me think about how his life would have been like if was born a decade or more sooner or later. Sad that these people had to grow up in the hell that was happening in Europe, but now we look back at what these people did, and learn to never experience it again.
And now it’s happening again! The human race never actually learns from history continuing to make the same mistakes. Who would have thought we would have war in Europe in 2022!

Stauffenberg HAD TWO explosive charges- he RAN OUT OF TIME to light the other. The Tom Cruise movie 'Valkyrie' even shows the scene where he was rushed out of having enough time to pinch-start with a channel lock the second fuse.
In fact, if the second unprimed charge had been left together with the primed charge, the resulting explosion would have been of much greater force which would have killed Hitler! Fate can be very odd at times.

Kenneth, even if he did, he would not be able to talk about them without having the German Government knock on his door to retrieve them, which is why collectors of such items keep most of what they have secret. Collectors are allowed to have items, although not all, as long as they are neither unique, very rare, nor, above all, antisemitic
@@newmankidman5763 Germany doesn't own all WWII relics. For the most part the victors took what they wanted. After Summer of '45, rules were tightened though but my grandfather sent a lot of stuff from Germany to here in Alabama. I have white china with the swastika and German eagle on the back. And a few other things.

@@newmankidman5763 Many of his friends have Nazi state memorabilia as well. His friend whondied had a silver silverware sat that had swastikas at the end of the handle. My uncle also has a Stalhelm. Lots of G.I.'s sent Stalhelms home. He wanted a luger but never got one in Germany but he did aquire a Walther pistol. The U.S. Army knew that this stuff was sent home. The Stalhelm wasnt even boxed. It just had a notecard with address and stamps affixed to the outside.
