I'm a farmer and have been wearing ball caps for years . Always just thrown them in the washer . After a couple times of that and they pretty much lose their shape . I even tried the delicate cycle . Gonna try this on my favorite Twins cap that has never been cleaned the old way as l didn't want it to lose it's shape . Glad Utube algorithms sent me your channel. Thanks .
What works for me is taking a hat into the shower (being careful to avoid soaking the brim where possible). Let the steam relax the fibers first, briefly rinse the hat with warm water and use a soft/medium bristle brush to loosen up dirt, apply a bit of shampoo on the brush or directly onto stained areas and scrub, let it sit for a few minutes before washing it off and letting the hat dry
To speed up drying, I use my carpet steam cleaner that came with some hand tool attachments. I use the small one to extract moisture out of the fabric when I'm done cleaning and it definitely makes a difference. Obviously, make sure the attachment is clean or new. I use my handtool for clothing and shoes exclusively and clean it after use so it's still in like-new condition. And yes, this same method is perfect for certain casual shoes.

used to clean a designer baseball cap, worked flawlessly luckily I had the crep kit laying around I used the included shoe detergent because Ive had success with cleaning delicate sneakers and it worked great.

Lots of people seem to forget that some hats will have their bills ruined if fully submerged in water for too long. I have a 9Fifty Snap that I wore to death that I ruined trying to clean because I submerged it in water for too long while cleaning it, which made the bill extremely soft.

That is awesome! The first I've seen that addresses the rigidity and structure integrity! Had someone claim that with submerging in a sink full of water, but then used an old worn out hat! I need that bill and front logo section to be solid afterwards, or I may as well scrap the hat!
This will probably work fine, but top rack in the dishwasher is really effective. I put a ten year old white golf cap in and it came out like new...frankly was startled how well it worked. Try it on an old cap if you are worried about the bill...it works!

I can second that specific oxyclean spray. That is the best stuff I’ve found that is universal for most stains. If it doesn’t come out in the first was it always does in the second.

Does detergent build up become a problem since you are not rinsing the hat off? Or when sweating, does detergent ever drip down with your sweat potentially getting in your eyes?
What about whitening white hats that have yellowing? Is soaking in a tub of oxy clean, tide, & dawn worth trying? Or do you have a go-to method for this?

I’ve washed my caps before in the washing machine in side a pillow case and it came out alright. My concern is, if the front bill is made out of cardboard that’s under the material, wouldn’t water mess up the cardboard and break it down eventually? Even if you do it your way with the spray bottle? Now that I’m thinking about it, do most caps have cleaning/washing inteuctions?
Cleaning instructions?!? great question I never thought about that… and about the bill I don’t think they use 100% cardboard ,I think it’s a composite material in most modern caps, either way I haven’t had any issues. Thanks for watching!👍🏽
Most hats on the tag says not to wash or have that wash symbol crossed out on the label. But I’ve washed many in a pillow cash in the machine and came out great.

Good question . I’ve never owned a dual colored white cap but I think this method is gentle enough as to avoid that happening… but I would still proceed with caution.
Yes it would but depending on what materials are used to make the cap, this can shrink the cap drastically…. so if you’re going to use a blow dryer, I would suggest using it on a low setting from a fair distance away.
This method leaves soap on the hat since you’re not rinsing it. When you go out in the sun and get sweaty all that soap will end up on your hair. Rinsing is a must in my opinion.

Just run your baseball cap in a cycle of your Dishwasher. You'll be surprise how clean the cap gets.
Surely the beak will bow through the water and heat impact!?!?
And if your dishwasher had food particles, wouldn't that food absorb into the cap?

I toss my hats into the washer, the more ratty and frayed it gets the better it feels, like a well worn pair of jeans.
Does Dawn dish soap work well for dried paint? If not, what works best?

Used this method on my two new era brand Reds hat and the red dye bled to the white logo.... what can I do to fix this??
Wash it again paying particular attention to the White logo… I have New Era caps of all colors, and I’ve never experienced this.. hope this helps!

There's not a lot you can do about a hat that has the bill made from cardboard. That's pretty much a throw away.

They should make the inside of the bill with plastic, but that might not let it curve the bill.

Does it work on fitted MLB caps ? And would it work on the emblem on the caps?
Yes it does!.. I just did one today. Just don’t over saturated it, the fitteds do tend to shrink a little bit when they get too wet.

That is the way I clean mine too. But then l stretch the cap over a #10 can and spread sta-flo starch over the cap with a paint brush.

Use a doo rag or Terri cloth headband, I have dri fit doo rags and it helps

Yes, I have tried a magic eraser on small dirt spots, but it didn’t work too well for me on the tougher stains.
