@@prskishore why not ? Actually we, all Hindus do this after any Puja we listen Katha from elders or Panditji . And as shivratri is a vrat (ब्रत) and this particular story is read after completing the vrat so it's called vrat Katha. We all do this in Sanskrit or in our regional languages.

Inside an unused well in the Indian Jungle , there were two lame frogs.
They thought that the dark well and the small round blue sky they saw on top was the cosmos. Till one day during unusually heavy rains, the water level of this well came up and both jumped out on to terra firma.
Excited they hopped along till they saw two child animals playing football. Immediately one of the frogs cried that the ball was manufactured by his great grandfather and established ownership over it.
The hopped along and wherever they went they gave cock and bull croaking stories of how their ancestors literally invented, discovered , built and made everything in the jungle.
They were so shrewd and slimy in their approach that very soon even the King lion was made to believe that the deep jungle belonged to these frogs, and lived in psychological subjugation.
Blah Blah -- Every fruit tree was planted by our ancestors, every lake was dug by our ancestors ---- Blah Blah -
These two frogs are the equivalent of German Friedrich Max Muller, and Englishman Thomas Babington Macaulay.
Macaulay under instructions from the Vatican and told Max Muller how to subvert and hijack world history.
In one single master stoke he gave the credit of every ancient Indian vedic work in language, Science, Mathematics , Astronomy etc.to the blonde blue eyed Christian white man.
"In our dream...the people yield themselves with perfect docility to our
molding hand.We shall not try to make these people or any of their
children into philosophers or men of learning or of science. We are not
to raise up from among them authors, orators, poets, or men of letters.
We shall not search for embryo great artists, painters, musicians. Nor will
we cherish even the humbler ambition to raise up from among them
lawyers, doctors, preachers, politicians, statesmen, of whom we now
have ample supply..For the task that we set before ourselves is a very
simple as well as a very beautiful one: to train these people as we find
them for a perfectly ideal life just where they are..an idyllic life under
the skies and within the horizon, however narrow, where they first open
      their eyes."
(The Country School of Tomorrow, Frederick Taylor Gates)

The white master race had NOT invented or discovered anything till they came to India, other than what they grabbed from the Arabs which also arab learn from India. As soon the immoral white invader came to India they learnt Sanskrit, stole our intellectual rights patented it in their names and destroyed the originals ( or kept it back after injecting POISON into the originals ).
      captajitvadakayil.in/2022/02/24/black-african-slave-trade-and-the-jews-capt-ajit-vadakayil/
Why should a Master learn the language of a slave ?
Bible considers that the cosmos is a few thousand years old. Western historians have been trying to date Rig Veda to 1500 BC ( instead of 5000 BC ) because as per Bible the creation started in 4004 BC at 9 AM on 23rd March .
*Naturally you cannot have a book written before the creation of cosmos , right ?*
So they burn all library of world , rewrite world history and prove that before 4004 bc there is nothing happned call it mythology .
Bishop Ussher had declared it as the date of creation. The Holy Bible says that the human race began with Adam and Eve.
      (All nonsense )
      Jesus Was never Exist
      Jesus is fictional character
      Plz see this video....
      czcams.com/video/QTmZlckcwMY/video.html
And Vatican has been pressurising all and sundry to disprove Vedic literature that stated in 5000 BC in writing, that the cosmos is 15 billion years old and that the mind and consciousness has to be factored in. Well the advent of quantum physics has proved Bible and Max Mueller wrong.
Fake history is weapon of white invaders even they hijack all world history to hide there crime over humanity and with fraud history humans blame over each other and quarrel .
Non violent and vegetarian Indian has never attacked any other country till now-- and as a result invaders murdered 90 million Hindus. ,Burn priceless Library and distort Vedic civilization
These vulgar white invaders robbed us blind in 250 years , converting India from the richest on the planet to the poorest. They stole our knowledge and patented it in their names.
WHY DID THEY LEARN OUR LANGUAGE SANSKRIT
WHY DID THEY STEAL PART 2 ( BRAHMANAS ) AND PART 3 ( ARANYAKAS ) OF OUR VEDAS ? ( THESE TWO SECTIONS CONTAINED BASIS OF SCIENCE AND MATH )
Now they want to make fun of our poverty and ignorance?
      Not any more !
These immoral people never expected an Internet age , right ?
They thought they could control the media, the historians and peer reviewed magazines and control everything , right?
      Wrong !

In andhra pradesh, mahasivaratri is a huge celebration. Most of us don't sleep on that night and we just roam around the shiva temple and various programmes and street plays happen that night. Also, On the day before shivaratri, we apply lime stone on our cattle and do a pradakshina with them around the temple. Now i can connnect the dots, Shiva is pashupathi and ancestors have been doing this for ages. Not sleeping on shivaratri is a common knowledge among telugu people. We call it 'shivaratri jaagaram'.

Much before the Chola reach. At least 500-600 years prior possibly. During this time a Brahmin king or a merchant or a priest by name Kaundinya (This Gotra Brahmins one would find in Ganjam & Srikakulam Districts)) from the present day Telangana, Andhra, Orissa along with fishermen travelled to Cambodia and edtablished Funan Kingdom 1900 years back, which coincides with Satavahana king's invasion og Kalinga during that time.

A Human Never Became A God & God Has No Image, No Statue...!!
In Every Religion, Scriptures State There Is Only One God....!!
      Concept of God in Hinduism:
In The Light Of Hindu Scriptures....
Hinduism is commonly perceived as a polytheistic religion.
Indeed, most Hindus would attest to this, by professing belief in multiple Gods. While some Hindus believe in the existence of three gods, some believe in thousands of gods, and some others in thirty three crore i.e. 330 million Gods.
However, learned Hindus, who are well versed in their scriptures, insist that a Hindu should believe in and worship only one God.
We can gain a better understanding of the concept of God in Hinduism by analysing Hindu scriptures.
      #UPANISHADS:
The Upanishads are considered sacred scriptures by the Hindus.
The following verses from the Upanishads refer to the Concept of God:
      "Ekam evadvitiyam"
"He is One only without a second."
      [Chandogya Upanishad 6:2:1]1
"Na casya kascij janita na cadhipah."
"Of Him there are neither parents nor lord."
      [Svetasvatara Upanishad 6:9]2
      "Na tasya pratima asti"
"There is no likeness of Him."
      [Svetasvatara Upanishad 4:19]3
The following verses from the Upanishad allude to the inability of man to imagine God in a particular form:
"Na samdrse tisthati rupam asya, na caksusa pasyati kas canainam."
"His form is not to be seen; no one sees Him with the eye."

MUHAMMAD (PBUH) IN BUDDHIST SCRIPTURES [Dr. Zakir Naik]
      1. Buddha prophesised the advent of a Maitreya:
      A) Almost all Buddhist books contain this prophecy. It is in Chakkavatti Sinhnad Suttanta D. III, 76: "There will arise in the world a Buddha named Maitreya (the benevolent one) a holy one, a supreme one, an enlightened one, endowed with wisdom in conduct, auspicious, knowing the universe:
"What he has realized by his own supernatural knowledge he will publish to this universe. He will preach his religion, glorious in its origin, glorious at its climax, glorious at the goal, in the spirit and the letter. He will proclaim a religious life, wholly perfect and thoroughly pure; even as I now preach my religion and a like life do proclaim. He will keep up the society of monks numbering many thousands, even as now I keep up a society of monks numbering many hundreds".
      B) According to Sacred Books of the East volume 35 pg. 225: "It is said that I am not an only Buddha upon whom the leadership and order is dependent. After me another Buddha maitreya of such and such virtues will come. I am now the leader of hundreds, he will be the leader of thousands."
      C) According to the Gospel of Buddha by Carus pg. 217 and 218 (From Ceylon sources): "Ananda said to the Blessed One, "Who shall teach us when thou art gone?" And the Blessed one replied, 'I am not the first Buddha who came upon the earth nor shall I be the last. In due time another Buddha will arise in the world, a holy one, a supremely enlightened one, endowed with wisdom in conduct, auspicious, knowing the universe, an incomparable leader of men, a master of angels and mortals. He will reveal to you the same eternal truths, which I have taught you. He will preach his religion, glorious in its origin, glorious at the climax and glorious at the goal. He will proclaim a religious life, wholly perfect and pure such as I now proclaim. His disciples will number many thousands while mine number many hundreds.'
Ananda said, 'How shall we know him?'
The Blessed one replied, 'He will be known as Maitreya'."
      (i) The Sanskrit word "Maitreya" or its equivalent in Pali "Metteyya" means loving, compassionate, merciful and benevolent. It also means kindness and friendliness, sympathy, etc. One Arabic word which is equivalent to all these words is "Rahmat". In Surah Al-Anbiya: "We sent thee not, but as a mercy for all creatures." [Al-Qur'an 21:107]
Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was called the merciful, which is "Maitri".
(ii) The words Mercy and Merciful are mentioned in the Holy Qur'ân no less than 409 times.
(iii) Every chapter of the Glorious Qur'ân, except Chapter 9, i.e. Surah Taubah begins with the beautiful formula, 'Bismillah Hir-Rahman Nir-Rahim', which means 'In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful'.
(iv) The Word Muhammad is also spelt as 'Mahamet' or 'Mahomet' and in various other ways in different languages. The word 'Maho' or 'Maha' in Pali and Sanskrit mean Great and Illustrious and 'Metta' means mercy. Therefore 'Mahomet' means 'Great Mercy'.
      2. Buddha's doctrine was Esoteric and Exoteric:
According to Sacred Books of the East, volume 11, pg. 36 Maha-Parinibbana Sutta chapter 2 verse 32:
"I have preached the truth without making any distinction between exoteric and esoteric doctrine, for in respect of truths, Ananda, the Tathagata has no such thing as the closed fist of a teacher, who keeps something back".
Muhammad (pbuh) on the commandment of Almighty God delivered the message and doctrine without making any distinction between esoteric and exoteric. The Qur'ân was recited in public in the days of the Prophet and is being done so till date. The Prophet had strictly forbidden the Muslims from hiding the doctrine
      3. Devoted Servitors of the Buddhas:
According to Sacred Books of the East volume 11 pg. 97 Maha-Parinibbana Sutta Chapter 5 verse 36: "Then the Blessed one addressed the brethren, and said, "Whosoever, brethren have been Arahat-Buddhas through the long ages of the past, they were servitors just as devoted to those Blessed ones as Ananda has been to me. And whosoever brethren shall be the Arahat-Buddhas of the future, there shall be servitors as devoted to those Blessed ones as Ananda has been to me"."
The Servitor of Buddha was Ananda. Muhammad (pbuh) also had a servitor by the name Anas (r.a.) who was the son of Malik. Anas (r.a...) was presented to the Prophet by his parents. Anas (r.a...) relates: "My mother said to him, 'Oh Messenger of God, here is your little servant'." Further Anas relates, "I served him from the time I was 8 years old and the Prophet called me his son and his little beloved". Anas (r.a...) stayed by the Prophet in peace and in war, in safety as well as in danger till the end of his life.
      i) Anas (r.a.), even though he was only 11 years old stayed beside the Prophet during the battle of Uhud where the Prophet's life was in great danger.
ii) Even during the battle of Hunain when the Prophet was surrounded by the enemies who were archers, Anas (r.a...) who was only 16 years old stood by the Prophet.
Anas (R) can surely be compared with Ananda who stood by Gautam Buddha when the mad elephant approached him.
      4. Six Criteria for Identifying Buddha:
According to the Gospel of Buddha by Carus pg. 214:
"The Blessed one said, "There are two occasions on which a Tathagata's appearance becomes clear and exceedingly bright. In the night Ananda, in which a Tathagata attains to the supreme and perfect insight, and in the night in which he passes finally away in that ultra passing which leaves nothing whatever of his earthly existence to remain.' "
According to Gautam Buddha, following are the six criteria for identifying a Buddha.
      i) A Buddha attains supreme and perfect insight at night-time.
ii) On the occasion of his complete enlightenment he looks exceedingly bright
iii) A Buddha dies a natural death.
      iv) He dies at night-time.
      v) He looks exceedingly bright before his death.
vi) After his death a Buddha ceases to exist on earth.
      i) Muhammad (pbuh) attained supreme insight and Prophethood at night-time.
According to Surah Dukhan: "By the books that makes thing clear ? We sent it down during a blessed night." [Al-Qur'ân 44:2-3]
According to Surah Al-Qadar: "We have indeed revealed this (message) in the night of power." [Al-Qur'ân 97:1]
ii) Muhammad (pbuh) instantly felt his understanding illumined with celestial light.
iii) Muhammad (pbuh) died a natural death.
iv) According to Ayesha (r.a.), Muhammad (pbuh) expired at night-time. When he was dying there was no oil in the lamp and his wife Ayesha (r.a.) had to borrow oil for the lamp.
      v) According to Anas (r.a.), Muhammad (pbuh) looked exceedingly bright in the night of his death.
vi) After the burial of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) he was never seen again in his bodily form on this earth.
      5. Buddhas are only Preachers:
According to Dhammapada, Sacred Books of East volume 10 pg., 67:
"The Jathagatas (Buddhas) are only Preachers."
The Qur'ân says in Surah Ghashiya: "Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish. Thou art not one to manage (men's) affairs." [Al-Qur'ân 88:21-22]
      6. Identification of Maitreya by Buddha:
According to Dhammapada, Mattaya Sutta, 151:
      "The promised one will be:
      i) Compassionate for the whole creation
      ii) A messenger of peace, a peace-maker
iii) The most successful in the world.
The Maitreya as a Preacher of morals will be:
      i) Truthful
      ii) Self-respecting
      iii) Gentle and noble
      iv) Not proud
      v) As a king to creatures
vi) An example to others in deeds and in words".

Yes indeed, I believe that Maha Shivarathri definitely existed, within the culture of the ancient Indus/Sindhu Civilisation, the reason behind my belief goes back to the Ekadasi stories, which I read when fasting each month. One of which is called Saphala Ekadasi (just gone Dec-Jan), whereby, Lord Sri Krishna is narrating the story behind this fast, to Maharaja Yudhisthira. Anyhow, this story speaks of a fallen Prince called Lumpaka, who was the eldest son of a king called Mahismata, from the city of Champavati, due to his sinful behaviours the eldest son of the king is banished to the forest, whereby in a similar tale he unknowingly observes the fast of Ekadasi and is rewarded with a kingdom, also, accepted back by his father and rules the kingdom from there onwards. Namaste and TY for such interesting facts, appreciated.

The tradition includes taking a bath the following morning and visiting a pandit to listen to the "brota katha" (the tale involving hunters, a tree, and Shiva), which we regard as an integral part of the festivities.
Sometimes, even during the night, we would go to the "বেল গাছ" (wood apple tree) near the Kali/Shiva temple and shake it.
Now, living outside Bengal for five years, I try to keep up the annual celebration but miss the communal gatherings and stories we used to share.

"There is no likeness of Him."

Very interesting video! Actually there's another paper by the noted archaeologist Shri Abhyankar. That paper talks about the pashupatinath seal. He identifies that with a planetary alignment that happened in Feb 3012 BC when all 9 planets (including sun n moon) looked like they were together in one region of the sky. That also happened to be the longest night of the year (winter solstice) and hence that was called Maha Shiva Ratri. longest night of the year. Plus the 4 animals present in the seal represent the 4 constellations present in 4 quadrants of the sky at that time.

At 15:21 timestamp As British archaeologist john Marshall said " A water buffalo is being sacrificed ". but I felt like the bull depicted on the tablet felt like "Nandi" The vahana of shiva bowing to " Dancing Nataraja pose" of shiva. I concur with the view of it being the representation of Nandi. This is the first thing that came to my mind when I had first seen a photograph of the seal in the past.
This is one of the many disconnects with the narrative I was taught in the school that had intrigued me when there was never even any whisper about the connection between the Hindu culture and the Indus valley civilisation.
Also, traditionally I am not aware of any animal sacrifice being done for Shiva.

Second the weapon touching behind the head on the shoulder where it is much difficult to cut bull or buffalo because of the shoulder bones.
So it could be both. It might be Shiva or it might be someone else disturbing Shiva attacked by Nandi.

Also, the seal with two tigers and a yogi in the middle is a separate depiction - it is showing that the Ida and the Pingala - as powerful as the tigers have risen in the person in the middle, and also the person in the middle is Shushumna, and therefore a realized yogi-being. The exact beginning of idol worship as known in current Hinduism is unknown. It could actually be quite recent (Recent like around 500 BC. ). During the period of the Indus Valley civilization, there many statues and idol like objects found.
Historians have shown that at the time of the oldest Hindu sacred text, the Rig Veda (dated to the second millennium B.C.), cow meat was consumed by Indians. Over time, particularly from the fourth century B.C., vegetarianism began to spread among India's Buddhists, Jains and some Hindus.
Archaeological evidence from the islands of the Aegean Sea have yielded Neolithic era Cycladic figures from 4th and 3rd millennium BC, idols in namaste posture from Indus Valley civilization sites from the 3rd millennium BC, and much older petroglyphs around the world show humans began producing sophisticated images.

Looking further took me to this Wikipedia article about Gilgamesh with the following quote under a picture: "Indus valley civilization seal, with the Master of Animals motif of a man fighting two lions or tigers (2500-1500 BC), similar to the Sumerian "Gilgamesh" motif, an indicator of Indus-Mesopotamia relations."

Excellent analysis on the man-in-tree seal. The other seal with the man fighting two tigers is common to all ancient civilizations (Mesopotamian, Egyptian and Achaemenid Persia besides Harappan) although sadly we only have the Mesopotamian epic of Gilgamesh grappling two lions available for it. Would be interesting to see if there is any Sanskrit textual evidence for that as well because it would possibly help connecting the deity concept with a global motif.
Professor Greg Possehl has probably made the greatest contribution to our understanding of the Indus/Harappan civilization, and with our understanding today from the vast number of sites discovered, and ongoing excavations, on the banks of ancient River Saraswati, the newer nomenclature of Sindhu-Saraswati Civilization which was originally suggested by Dr. BB Lal, is actually correct. After the initial discoveries from the 1920s which were located in the Indus valley, the findings of this vast civilization are too widespread to limit it to just one valley. In fact, we have three times more sites along the dry riverbed of Saraswati!
While western archaeologists are still reluctant to accept the newer name (they've been working mostly on the Indus side), they keenly follow our excavations on this side of the border too. Late Dr. Possehl would probably have been the first to endorse it today with the incredible recent evidence from sites like Rakhigarhi and Bhirrana, with many more to be excavated.
    Regards,
    Dr. Lajwanti Shahani

@@buddha9715 yes, SSC is the oldest civilization. The archaeological site of Bhirrana in Haryana has given us dates of 7th to 8th millennium BCE, which makes it almost 10,000 years old. It is definitely the oldest within the Sindhu Saraswati Civilization.
Sumer on the other hand is dated to around 4500 BCE and correlates with the Mature phase of the SSC.

SALaM, SHLAMa, SHLOMo, SHALoM, NAMASTe, PEACe.
The advent of Prophet Muhammad is mentioned more than once in the Hindu scriptures.
Hindu scriptures are divided into three basic categories: Vedas, Upanishads and Puranas.
There are differences about the age of those scriptures; some people believe that they go back almost 4,000 years.
One of the amazing prophecies in these Hindu scriptures is the one on the tongue of Maharshi Vyasa, a Hindu saint, that states that the land of Arabs will be corrupted by the evil doers - maybe a reference to the pre-Islamic pagans; and that Mahamad - a slight adulteration of the name Muhammad - will come and guide those who went astray.
He will be circumcised, bearded, eloquent; he will create a great revolution; he will announce the call for prayers; he will eat of the meat of lawful animals but not of the swine; and he will fight against irreligious nations. All these descriptions meet Prophet Muhammad (Vidyarthi).
Bhavishya Purana, one of the most important Puranas, includes another prophecy that states that in a foreign country a spiritual teacher whose name is Muhammad will come; he will be a dweller of Arabia; he will gather a large force to fight or kill the devil; and God will protect him from his opponents.
Prophet Muhammad Mentioned in the Upanishad Some Hindu scholars consider the Upanishads scripture to be superior to the Vedas, because they impart divine knowledge and teach how the human soul can get nearer to its Maker and Master.
The Muslim testimony of faith is mentioned in the Upanishads. The most important prophecy in it is the one that mentions the coming of Prophet Muhammad by name, and the Muslim testimony of faith - there is no God but Allah - is repeated more than once in it.
As a result of the clarity and explicitness of that prophecy, some Hindus actually enter into Islam, which has led some Hindu scholars to claim that perhaps this prophecy was written by a Hindu pundit who converted to Islam.
But this is refuted because this prophecy was referred to in some of the ancient Hindu books that predate the advent of Islam or Muslims to India (Vidyarthi).
In the Allo Upanishad, the following description of God is given: the name of the deity is Allah, He is one, the King of all the world, He is the Magnificent, the Greatest of all, the Best, the Most Perfect , the Holiest of all, the Nourisher of the whole world, the Manifester of the earth and the space, and the Lord of all creation.
He created the sun, the moon, the stars, and the heavens. He is the Nourisher of all the birds, beasts, animals that live in the sea and those that are not visible to the eye.
He is the remover of all evils and calamities, and Muhammad is the apostle of Allah. Prophet Muhammad Mentioned in the Vedas The third basic category of Hindu scriptures is called the Veda.
In the Atharva Veda, it is mentioned that the praiseworthy among people shall be praised; it is known that the name Muhammad in Arabic actually means “the praiseworthy.” It also states that the promised prophet will be a camel rider, which is interesting because Indian prophets were forbidden to ride camels. Prophet Jesus, according to the New Testament, rode on an ass but not on a camel, but it is well known that Prophet Muhammad rode a camel.
The seventh mantra also speaks about someone who is going to be a guide to all people, and Prophet Muhammad always emphasized that he was not sent to a particular people, like Israelites alone or Arabs alone, but to the whole world.
The sixth mantra speaks about some of the brave people who vanquished without a battle and that the number of their opponents was 10,000, which could be a reference to the battle of the allies or the trench that took place during Prophet Muhammad’s time.
The number of the people who put a siege around Madinah were indeed 10,000, and they were vanquished without a battle because God sent a hurricane that finally, after a long siege, forced them to leave.
In the Rig Veda, it speaks about a person who is described as truthful and trustworthy, powerful and generous who will be famous with 10,000.
All these are the characteristics of Prophet Muhammad, and the number 10,000 could be a possible reference to the number of the Companions of Prophet Muhammad who entered Makkah victoriously.

Wonderful. Looks like very foundations of Indology are shaking up and there is the hope that if we are sincere, diligent and not arrogant Bharat will be able to reclaim Indus Saraswati Civilization as her own.

This is amazing work. I believe Shiva, Devi, Murugana, Ganesha etc. are pre-Vedic deities. Shiva was popular all over India. Devi in the east, Ganapati in the West and Murugana in the south. They were assimilated into the Vedic fold and given their own sanskrit mantras, puranas etc. as the old Vedic religion declined.

No proof for your claim first of all there is no exact boundary for when was the vedic civ entered india. Those ideas slowly migrated into india from the north west parallel alongside the ivc. Secondly only Shiva(which is not proved yet) can be seen in the artifacts. All the other deities have been cultivated later again i am not saying vedic as at this point there really cant be any distinction as they might have intermingled too much.
