      @Harrowed2TheMind Před 3 lety +3

      Pretty much our current setting in a game we've been running on and off for the past 14 years or so, save for AO.
      We actually started as our own selves in our current material plane when the Negative Energy Plane bled into ours and zombies and other abominations happened. After narrowly escaping with our lives, we ended up finding a planar gate to another human-settled and soon-to-be-fused material plane - where we learned the teleportation ritual from a soon-to-be-traitor necromancer (who later returned as a lich) - in some weird underground somewhat interplanar dungeon-like complexes to escape and have been trying to save the other material planes (crystal spheres, if we're to use the correct terminology) ever since. We have even created demiplanes for thousands of planar refugees.
      We have been investigating the phenomenon since then to figure out what causes the planar fusions but we're usually in a climate change type of situation where it's mostly only the affected planes that seem to care thus far, plus a plane of studious wizard researchers (aka scientists) who has a few experts on the case, among other fields of study... Other people always seem to have more immediate things to take care of and ignore the situation of the other planes as well as the existential threat of this imminent crisis, haha.

    I absolutely love the concept of endless elemental planes that also are in contact with eachother.
    To me that sounds like they are indeed infinite in some way, but only if you don't know the way. A journey without knowing the way (including the way being just a straight line) could take centuries before reaching the target, while someone who knows the way could reach it in mere days, depending on difficulty of terrain. That would make being randomly dumped on any plane a death sentence in most cases, tho.

She is the "first God" as celestials existed before mortals and potamii are the first mortal race born from celestial trapped on the prime by the hag. Their birth and her rise would create a gold rush of God hood and making mortal races. In the campaign I'm running, the various planes that make up the balance of Good/Law/Evil/Chaos actually form a seal that prevents an Outer God, equal in power to Lovecraft's Azathoth, from awakening. The locations of the planes form an intricate keyhole-shape, with the Heavens above, Hells below, and an expanse in between called the Nethers.
    The Abyssal Nether is equal to Forgotten Realms' Abyss, where feral, chaotic demons are imprisoned by the Nine Hells, whereas the Empyrean Nether leads to the Astral Emptyness (Intentional Spelling) and the only thing in it is the Throne of Creation, where the Overgod sits. Great Old Ones and Outer Gods float around in the Emptyness and can astral project forms of themselves into the Prime Material.
    Theoretically, one could fly through one Nether to another via the Emptyness, but it would take all of infinity to do so. If you started flying from the bottom of the Abyss to fight God, himself, travelling at the speed of light, and you started flying when the universe first began to form, then by the time the Sun turned into a white dwarf and finally died, you would have only travelled 0.00001% of the total journey.
    So the universe is kinda doughnut-shaped in that regard, because you can loop infinitely around the outside of the cosmic keyhole, but also travel inside-out of it like some 4D tesseract. The most powerful of entities can also jump between multiverses, and it is established in lore that someone tried to conquer it all before, only to fail because he landed in a universe where the laws of physics were different to his own, so he was stripped of all of his powers until he could learn the local laws of physics. Timeline wise, it was only 29 years ago, and the player characters live in the aftermath of his assault on the Prime Material Plane.

    Excellent video per usual. I understand this was just a basic overview, but I was expecting you to mention the energy planes and the feywild while talking about the inner planes, and the infinite staircase while talking about the outers. Totally understand missing things here and there when discussing planescape though. I've been reading about them for a couple decades now and feel like I've just scratched the surface.

    I was wondering when you would be doing the planes of DnD, seeing as they are just as important as the races, deities, and locations in it.

    Before I knew about this stuff I made my own way to connect to every other D&D world and possible timeline (tbh I prefer my way and will be using it). Basically you have an origin world that has some caves that lead to a portal to a sanctum with a portal to every other D&D world with other planes existing as bridges. This origin world also is split in two one half being a testing ground of deities for spells, new races, and laws of nature. The other side is a normal D&D world. This world also has a connection to every deity from every D&D world with a more powerful deity ruling over all of them.

    This is how you know a game is old and has made and still makes an effort to put some more proverbial meat on it's bones, when you need a thirty minute video just to explain what's in the details of and/or how travelling to other dimensions and planes work, something that's usually explained in about a minute otherwise.

    @17:26 I believe that you actually have travel to the fugue plane through the astral plane. In fact, I think that is one of the only ways to get there without well.... dying. Pretty sure Midnight (the girl who literally became Mystra, the goddess of magic) even did it in the Forgotten Realms "Avatar" trilogy but I read those books like 2 decades ago. So, I admit my memory is not reliable.

    I think I will change a few things in the Multiverse for my future campaigns, but it is cool anyway.
    (for instance, make the Elemental planes really enormous, but not infinite, because they TOUCH each other. Same for the planes organized in layers - too much layers in the plane descriptions).

    Dude this is perfect timing! I've just started a high level homebrew for my friends in a setting where they are basically fighting in a Arena that travels the planes like a spacejammer to new locations to fight interesting monsters and this info helps so much. I'm now seeking out those books and look forward to the next vid. Also my partner is an artist so i'll see if i can convince her to do some on the ethereal plane :D

  • @Fernando_Cabanillas
    @Fernando_Cabanillas Před 3 lety

    There is one thing that doesnt fully make sense to me and would like explained if possible in future videos.
    Based on what you presented (and the refference picutres), the planes (both inner and outer) are outside of the crystalspheres as if going through a different dimention, meaning it would be possible for example, travel from realmspace to lets say mechanus and from there into greyhawk or so on. The way I understood it so far is that each crystalphere has its on set of planes (again, both inner and outer) that might mirror or connect those from other crystalspheres.
    The reason I thought of it that way is because some settings still have access to the planes (like the elemental planes or the outer planes), but they have a completely different set of deities that do not have any sort of contact with the common deities from others. For example, the deities in eberron are not in the material plane, yet you wont find them in the same outer planes as the ones in toril, unless I am misunderstanding something. Also while some deities manage to have presence in different settings, they seem to have a different level of power in said settings (examples being vecna and tyr).
