Modern Warfare 3 gameplay with a discussion about my opinions and criticism of the game. So far I really enjoy MW3 multiplayer but it does have some serious flaws that need to be addressed, especially with campaign. In brief I enjoyed the multiplayer, and zombies. However I don't much like the campaign at all. In fact it's basically an expansion pack for MW2 and the story is very inconsistent. The maps look and play great but the spawns are better than beta but still flawed.

It does. I haven’t bought the past two CODs because I was so over SBMM. I’d like to play this but IMO it’s not $70 worth of content and I know just like last games with SMBB, I’ll be over multiplayer in an hour

Fun for 20 minutes. Than the game decides how your connection is going to be, forces you to play on a server a 1000 miles away from the one you just played on and then I shut it off and play literally anything else that allows my internet to determine my connection, not some gross, nefarious algorithm
I tell you what man, drifters reviews are always going to be a part of my like annual life cycle. No matter how big of a break you take from these games it's like nostalgic for me to come back to your channel every year and look for these. I know this is just a job for you man but you played a big part and helping make memories for the rest of us keeping us up to date with this kind of stuff for better than what seems like 15 years. I know you're going through a lot of health problems right now drift, So I'm hoping everything's going well for you other than that. Players and Critics: The campaign is boring, too short, and low effort.
Activision: Gamers don't like single player games anymore.
Ironically, I haven't touched COD since MW2019 to play single player games. Doing my part to boycott until EOMM gets changed.

I’m not gonna lie, I think this would have been amazing for a $40 dlc pack for MW2. I think it would have won over the fans more than a full priced game

Except its not because for some reason a large contingent of the community would be claiming these gameplay updates “ruined MW2.” By comparison, I can buy this game for $70, but your solution to win over the players is in order for someone like me to get into the new COD for this year, you force me to spend $70 on _last year’s_ game… _then spend an additional $40._ Oh they bundled it together for $100? Yippee! $100 is much cheaper than $70, right?
Your solution pisses off the people who enjoy and have been playing MW2 for the past year by completely changing the gameplay and simultaneously wards off new/returning players by having a $100-110 price tag.
This isn’t even getting into the inherent misinformation the expansion would create by having people who don’t watch reviews on youtube not even know about the change of pace in gameplay, thinking it’s just a glorified map pack, and the fact that an expansion to a game does not turn heads like a numbered sequel, meaning only a fraction of potential buyers would care because it’s “just an update to MW2. If it were a worthwhile upgrade, it would have been a sequel.”

@@dilloncarpenter8655skill based matchmaking. It’s been implemented heavily in most cod titles for years now. Matches against players of equal skill, however people exploit this system by tanking their stats on a alt account and joining the match on their main account to get easier lobbies which makes it even worse. Nobody wants to have to try super hard every match, people wanna casually play and not feel like they are in a tournament every game.
SBMM has been in every CoD, get good
But it’s at the cost of ping now it’s out of control. Just have a ranked playlist for hard and casual playlist for casuals

I believe the part about the Weekly Challenges at 18:00 was found to be more casual friendly than described here. The Weekly challenges can be completed at any point once that "week" unlocks and then once the season ends, if you didn't complete enough of the different weekly challenges for the overall unlock, then there will be a new challenge to complete that can be done at any time.
Maps are great. Weapons are great. Sound design is great.
SBMM makes the game a 3 out of 10.
Without SBMM it could have been 8/10

@@Nebellune I haven't seen a nuke drop the whole time modern warfare 2022 was out, and I certainly didn't drop one myself and I consider myself to be pretty good at the game... I like to run and gun though so it makes nukes really not part of the content that I get to partake in. How many nukes did you see over the last year? Part of the fun of modern warfare 2 2009, was the choice you made between being conservative and trying to string together kill streaks or running and gunning and not trying to get the nuke at all really. In this game it really just doesn't feel like a choice It's more one-dimensional because I really don't think I'm going to string together 30 gun kills... In general. It's like the nuke isn't even part of the game for 99% of people. In modern warfare 2 2009, I got at least 10 nukes and every single one of them was the most exhilarating moment in my entire video gaming career and I'm 40 years old
@moonrooster7160 I agree. At the very least, the introduction of the killchain perk was a good enough compromise. I get the fun of getting nukes easier, believe me. But for the nuke count, I've got nuked one once in 2019, dropped one in infected, got two in Cold War, and then a teammate got one in the mw3 beta. It's a very scarce thing indeed and not prominent enough for its significance for sure. If it were at least a 25 gun kill, then that's the most we'd probably get as a compromise.
The game is overall really good. My only complaints are:
• SBMM is set to max
• Unlocking useful attachments and perks requires doing daily challenges but some of those challenges require you to use other things that are locked behind daily challenges lmao
• squad based spawns are the worst.

quick tip about zombies: if you want more zombies spawning, just go to the exfil site and the spawn rate in the low threat zone will increase by alot and you can even earn alot of xp by doing that

One thing I would like to single out about MWIII is the firing sound design. For some reason they have toned down the gunshot volume in the campaign and zombies over MWII, but they are using MWII's powerful design for the multiplayer which also extends to the MWIII weapons. I am personally a big fan of the loud, punchy gunfire and hope it stays this way for the multiplayer.
On steam, right click game > properties > DLC. You can select what you want to install. Should only be around 60 gigs for just the mw3 multiplayer.
I have no idea how people can paint 'not having to learn new maps' (i.e being re-sold the same crap you've already played a decade ago) as a positive. New maps is half the fun of a new FPS game in my opinion.
How are the spawns? Have they improved really or do you spawn next to players all game still?

So question for anyone who wants to help me out (would me much appreciated it) I’m thinking about getting MW3 but for multiplayer is it like the last one where you have to use different guns to unlock attachments for if you want to use? Or did they do way with that? It was a major turnoff for me and I never picked it up learning I had to grind and be a certain level to use that weapon to unlock an attachment for a previous gun I wanted to play? Thanks in advance!

I used to watch your bo2 vids all day as a 12 y/o, now I'm 24 how does that happen. you've always been a real one and glad i looked up to someone like you instead of ali-a or tmartn or something ya know? you always reminded me of myself. I'm glad you are still around. I often think about your videos about your insane dreams even now, a few days ago actually. idk why but they had a big impact on me as a child, so glad to see they are still up ill have to go back and watch them soon. in a way, they got me interested in things that later became a huge part of my life and cant help but feel like it jumpstarted my fascination with asking questions about the parts of the universe that we cant see. thought maybe you'd want to know that.

Most of the maps have not aged well. At all. They're far too big for 6v6, and again, there's no 10v10 at launch..
I am sick of spawning 110 meters away from the Hardpoint, running 100 meters, then getting sniped because the maps are so wide open.

Search and Destroy is so much fun. The higher TTK means you can actually challenge lanes, maps play really well, and the SBMM is less frustrating, as hard games are expected, if not welcome.
I was pleasantly surprised by zombies, I've been playing it more than MP, it's in no way balanced for soloing, but honestly, that makes it fun to take on harder challenges. The only annoying bit are the mercs, they're laser accurate and can drop you pretty quickly if you're not prepped.

Though, regarding campaign length. I beat the OG MW2 on 360 on the hardest difficulty in about 5 hours. I was really disappointed and assumed all campaigns were short. OG MW2 was my first COD but I don't think I ever spent any significant amount of time beating any campaign in any COD after that. I wish COD campaigns were like 20-30 hours long, unless you tried to speed run it. But that's never going to happen.

One thing about the increased health pool is the balance between high powered vs. low powered weapons. Trying to use a non-meta SMG and just getting 1-2 tapped by a BR or Marksman gets frustrating. I somehow prefer ALL weapons to be melty opposed to only a select few.
Somehow? If only certain weapons are melty, then the ones that aren’t are useless, I’ve tried my hardest to enjoy the game but the ttk is too high to be enjoyable imo
Not to mention how frustrating it is starting out with a base weapon. Also how is this Armory system going to work with warzone only players?
The slow ttk is even noticable on hardcore, way more 2-3 shot kills
I wonder if Activision understands how much file optimization would sell this game further. I'm not willing to uninstall my existing games to free up 200GB of space for one single game, that will inevitably get uninstalled to play my other games again. Small file size means more downloads and better chance of replay value.
My last CoD was MW2019, this one is a banger for me. Didn't install the campaign at all so my install size was 80ish GB for mp&zombies.
No issues launching, the core gameplay loop is fun, it feels like I'm playing a better version than the last I touched.
Sad to hear the yearly buyers didn't get much out of it.
Same here. Nothing piqued my interest till MW2, but I was not in a position to play CoD at that point. Looks like I made the right choice haha. I loved MW19, and this feels like somewhere between that and BO2 personally, which was my favorite CoD ever.

hey dritor i cancled my pre order after the campaign and i already had MW2 but i can still play. they never actualy specified that you had to buy MW3 if you already had MW2 i was hoping to see if anyone else noticed that they can play MW3 if you have MW2 maybe a bug but maybe it really is a dlc.

SBMM is daddy
Review gave me everything I needed. Will be skipping this one unless it goes on sale for like $35. Even if it's really good DLC, I'm not paying full game price for DLC for a game I already own. Thanks for getting all of the info I needed into a concise video.

Is there any reason why I get packet burst and stuttering at the start of every match?
Ground War is playing well. Always action and with players learning the maps there's some sense of flow to it. Hope they bring back Krovnik Farmland.
I'm so sad nothing has matched the ground war experience in MW19 yet. MWIII is still way better than MW2 though.
@@_Idolin Orlov Military Base has provided a solid ground war experience. If we can get more open maps like the classic Krovnik Farmland from MW19 then Ground War can continue.
one thing u said wrong, one after market part is unlocked via a weekly challenge, which u can do anytime after as well. main issue with unlocking is the armory unlocks, require daily challenges and when u run out, it requires wins.
I think every review I’ve seen so far misunderstood the armoury unlock system… it’s not limited to 3 challenges a day the 3 challenges are just the base and then you can earn an unlock point every win after
Hardcore Dom on Highrise can get very infuriating when the enemy team controls the center and picks off people easily spawning from both sides. Forcing them to spawn away the center is difficult when they keep spawning back in the center
Same issue with Rust too when the team controls the center just picking off as you spawn

incase no one has said it you get daily unlock tokens for every win you get so there isnt pressure to do dailys everyday
I think the game feels pretty good, the SBMM makes me sweat every game and things are always within a couple points. There are some glitches in the UI
I never had the Problem with having to have MW2 installed, all you need is the Base game loaded (Warzone) and i was fine and the MW3 Download was like 86gb
Weekly challenges will stay. They will not go after a week. That is what I understood. You don't have to wait until season is over to unlock stuff from earlier weeks. Then after season is over, you still have a new challenge to unlock stuff.
17:45 i wanna clarify this, no part,killstreak,gun or equipment will be locked after a week, this was never the case. when thats said, when your 3 daily challenges is done you have unlimited bonus challenges which is only to win a mp game and you get a challenge point. very fast very simple

Their's other ways to unlock aftermarket parts. You can just extract them from zombies map. Then they are unlocked for you.

Weapons unlock makes this incredibly frustrating. As someone that works 10-12 hour days and also travels to see family 2 hours away from me at least once a month, this really sucks. I don’t always wanna play when I’m tired after work, and then there’s the time I’m away from home to see the fam. Just sucks
i have a 0.98 kd and 0.67 WL. theres no reason i should be getting sweaty lobbies. i cant get over 15 kills a game
anyone have an opinion on how much worse the sbmm is on this compared to vanguard? I have 2.88/kd on vanguard and I don’t mind the sbmm I’m still dropping nukes with 180ping
How about we don’t incentivize and reward Activision releasing a DLC for 70 bucks…

We might see the same kind of transition we're seeing with OW2 as a result where devs are given more agency and not having to run changes up to execs only for the proposals to be shot down because it doesn't squeeze out every possible drop of revenue. Could explain why Sledgehammer were able to make so many positive changes following the beta. And who knows, maybe if we're lucky, we'll see a tweak to SBMM on the back of that. If's and maybes, but I think we can have a more positive outlook for the future than it would have ever made sense to under everyone's favourite CEO, Bobby.

As an old player that cut his teeth on MW2 (09), I've been loving playing these OG MW2 maps. Has me smiling ear to ear in nostalgia. I'm over the SMBB. It's here to stay, so I just deal with it and play. I still have fun.
SBMM is absolutely rough but the game itself is pretty fun. Will be nice to hop on with the squad and play here and there. Thanks Drift0r!

The main things that kills the game for me is the inconsistent ttk/ ttd and the connection. Having packet bursts all the time and dying instantly yet I’m putting an entire mag to kill someone
Modern Warfare Zombies is where I've spent the bulk of my time in during this weekend, mainly because I wanna get all the guns I can and get them leveled up so I can use attachments if I ever go into MP. That, and it's rather relaxing, when the servers aren't having issues or the game just crashes from an Aether Nest and you end up losing all your stuff, that is. lol
As someone who doesn't play Warzone and buys CoD games for multiplayer and the campaign, I can say that I like the fluidity of the movement mechanics and how smoothly your character transitions from a sprint into a slide or vaulting animation, and this is a welcome improvement over MWII. I also appreciate the ability to slide cancel and reload cancel again, but I don't like the slide canceling resetting your tac sprint like it did in MW2019 (this is one of the things I think Infinity Ward got right in MWII, because players shouldn't be forced to learn an exploit that breaks your controller and gives you RSI just to be competitive).
Something I'm not really a fan of though is the way the gunplay in MWIII now feels more like an early 2000's arcade game (think Time Crisis or House of the Dead) than the polished modern military shooter that MW2019 and MWII feel like. I don't expect a mil-sim from CoD, and I can't quite explain it, but something about the hit markers and recoil just feels "off" compared to the last two MW games in a way that ruins the immersion for me a bit. All in all though, the multiplayer does feel like an improvement so far over MWII. Where MWIII really falls short for me though is in the necessity to login and complete daily missions just to be able to use the guns and equipment you want, and the rather mediocre campaign that makes me regret preordering so I could play it early before multiplayer launched. I don't blame the devs because I'm sure they did their best with the time they had and there have been obvious improvements over MWII, but a part of me is actually ashamed that I spent as much as I did on MWIII for what I got, especially considering the economy we're in right now.
It’s not really that surprising. For what they were given, they did a great job. Think about how much more content and stuff in general is both happening in-game and happening in the background. Back in OG mw2, we didn’t have:
Scorestreak option
Sliding
Any kind of anti-cheat
Quick play filters
Only 1 or 2(with a perk) attachments
No FOV slider
30 FPS Locked
Only 1 sensitivity option, no vertical or custom optics settings
Only 2 mastery camos
No post-launch content aside from map packs (which were $15 each, back in 2010)
No streaming or game capture capabilities, aside from a literal camera filming you (especially on console)
No option to turn off motion blur
Still had SBMM, albeit much weaker
And bugs and glitches would be in the game for its entire lifetime
Updates had to be manually downloaded and took hours often times
Etc. etc.
Is it worth buying? I barely plaid last year because it just pissed me off. This one any better or the same old issues?
its faster paced and more fluid, and I'd say the maps play alot better. but in terms of matchmaking, balancing, and qll the other bs it's not much different so i definitely wouldn't recommend it full price if ur on the fence

Gone from a 1.54KD on MW2 to a 0.93KD in MW3. Something feels really off and it makes me think whether it's because I stopped buying blackcell. So many hitmarkers on ym end yet when i check the enemy's killcam it says 4 hits to kill me. In the beta I was doing really well, really enjoying the game. Anyone else in the same boat?
Because you're on controller and mouse users have a huge advantage in this game. Holding aim longer helps them with this ttk

MW2 and Infinity Ward in general just feel stubborn to the point of feeling almost malicious towards the playerbase. This game feels like such a breath of fresh air in comparison. Having a normal mini map again, have perks the work all game like from the start. Having a true "Dead Silence" like perk again so that you don't go into every fight at a disadvantage by simply moving at more than a crouch. This, like Cold War did for me, feel as close as these modern CoD games have felt to classic CoD.
The SBMM is a bummer as always, but despite that - I feel this game is delivering on what Infinity Ward SHOULD have in MW2. Maps are solid, guns are solid, features are there, and it's just fun. I just cannot stress how refreshing it is to play a CoD again that delivers on what fans actually want, from a developer that is actively listening to us and trying to work with us to create a product we want to play. And for that, this game stands out for me.
I like the zombies mode a bit but I am a solo player and it is not very solo player friendly which is pretty much a deal breaker, if they ever make it solo friendly ill give it more of my time
If i did have a positive to say about the Campaign, i did genuinely enjoyed the performance by the actor playing this rebooted version of Makarov.

Also, when you beat the campaign, the first thing in the end credits is “Infinity Ward” lmao. Proves that at least that campaign is MWII dlc.
So if I don’t buy game day one and I buy a month from now I can’t get those attachments I missed before 😮
Great analysis. Unpopular opinion- daily challenges are good in that they encourage people to care about winning and play objectives. They usually can be done in 1 match and then it’s just wins so I don’t think it’s bad. What’s bad is time locking content and guns though

I REALLY HATE 150 hp, so many times I've hit someone 4 times in close range without getting hit myself only for the person im shooting to kill me, happens waaaay to often, that and sbmm are my biggest gripes, and I honestly think 150hp bothers me more because of how unfair it feels to shoot someone so many times only to get killed by them

This was obviously designed to be a DLC to MWII. MWII broke world records for most sales and they decided to go back on what they were planning. I'd buy it if it was an expansion, but I'm not spending another $70 on this.
It’s fun when I get matched with people where my ping isn’t at 90. Because sbmm prioritizes skill over connection and makes it unplayable.
They need to fix sbmm, like I can't get a good groove

I can handle all the other problems but the respawn algorithm is ridiculous. what made cod4 and cod5 even original mw2 was the fact that you can predict where the enemy is spawning. so you can strategize and learn the maps and spawns , and improve the more you play. now it doesn't matter how good you are you can have someone spawn behind you in a random location and shoot you in the back.
