Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 2023 full review, retrospective and analysis. Sledgehammer Games and Infinity Ward and Treyarch made Call of Duty MW3, what was supposed to be a premium expansion pack for last years MW2 2022. This will be a complete review of COD MW3, its Campaign and story, Multiplayer gameplay, and MWZ zombies review. - Hry
this could have been huge W as a DLC for MWII, but greed got in the way, its so obvious and everyone knows it.

The 'No Russian' mission becomes so much worse if you use logic.
1)We have footage of one of the most wanted terrorist(Makarov) boarding a plane that blows up later.
2)The goons in the plane literally used flashbangs in the plane,how the hell did the other cabins not notice this??
3)Makarov escapes from the plane by opening the plane door... Which is recorded by the plane's black box.
4)Next Mission,We play as Farah to clean up the data from phones that are somehow intact from a bloody plane crash. SHE THEN ERASES DATA FROM THE BLACK BOX WHICH HAS EVIDENCE ABOUT THE PLANE DOOR OPENING.
Yeah, I just.. why??? Why would they ruin one of the most CONTROVERSIAL AND DEVASTATING MISSIONS, a mission where the player has to PARTICIPATE IN A LITERAL MASSACRE AND IS FORCED TO WATCH EVERY SINGLE THING..
But no, they decided to dumb it down where it takes place on a plane, with very low stakes, you can’t even shoot any of the civilians which was THE POINT OF THE NO RUSSIAN MISSION
OG MW3 was still fun to play. This one is like a job you don't get paid for.

I honestly refuse to believe that. This game got nothing but bad press from even some of the more notorious gaming outlets like IGN, barely anyone I know even bought the game, nor has there been a ton of positivity surrounding the game in general. I know the CoD casuals are always gonna be there but if this really was the second highest selling game of the year then there really is no hope for them and we’ll just have to keep hearing about the newest CoD every damn year

The fact that reboot MW3 storyline didn't go full blown WW3 like the OG MW3 and instead went for the lazily retold MW2 route is the most baffling aspect to me.
I mean I wouldve been fine if this game ended with Makarov successfully starting WW3 so the next game could be balls to the wall, but theres no way in hell he succeeded, because 141 pretty much foiled every one of his terrorist attacks. He only succeeded in killing Soap and escaping.

If you consider how many former and current US military and intelligence connections the Activision Blizzard board has these days, and that the US army itself sponsors cod esports events. I think its fair to accuse this whole modern warfare trilogy reboot was just a glorified army recruitment ad to some how sell the military to gen Z as hip and cool. It explains why nothing bad happens to the US military and nothing the US military or the main cast does is framed in any negative light and the games writing always seem to hamfistedly moralize to the player that the ends always justify the means. This is why the writing seems like it was written with baby brain logic. This is why there is no WW3, not terrorist attacks that were instigated by bad actors US like the original trilogy. General Shepherd is no longer a delusional evil man purposefully instigating a world war like in the original instead he’s a well intended man who simply made an oopsy losing the missiles and arming terrorists. All the main plot points in the original trilogy that made the story exciting and tense and didn’t care if it paints the US military in the story in the best of light as that wasn’t the purpose of the original trilogy the writers of the original trilogy was simply trying to tell a fun over the top spy/military action thriller.
The only thing i find funny is during the last mission and Soap's death, Price says "one KIA" and completely ignores his other dead SAS mates who were defending him and soap

What disappoints me the most it that we ALMOST was able to break the cycle . We were so fucking close. I been telling my friends that most of call of duty problems would be fixed if they just STOPPED DOING YEARLY RELEASES. We could’ve even compromised and just done a new COD every two years or something. They new CODs have so much potential, just imagine if they actually had more time to polish this new titles. Activision cant help but appease the investors.

Just a little FYI regarding Alex and Graves' survival. For Alex it turns out he actually survived the explosion in a Warzone Season 3 cutscene from MW 2019 apparently only losing his leg; how he actually made it out of that only God knows. And Graves just magically appears in a MW2 cutscene for Season 5. When asked how he survived the tank explosion bro simply says "I wasn't in that tank." Not only did they give these two core and important characters of the COD franchise laughable "explainations" for their survivals but they relegated it to stupid seasonal cutscenes that nobody even watched
Graves surviving was lazy, but, it was a lot more believable than Alex surviving a *manually* detonated bomb.
The explanations for their survival are the same lazy writing as Palpatine's return in Star Wars. Do people not get paid enough or have enough time to write a thorough and reasonable plot anymore?

Well, people watched it because every season had an unskippable cutscene
The funniest thing about the Graves reveal was that they say "Hey, I heard you got blown up in a tank in south america" in the cutscene. The writers didn't realize that Mexico, where MW2 took place and that incident they're referring to happens, is in North America. They think everything below the US border is just South America.
The biggest issue with this game is the fact that it's a separate release instead of a 70$ game making the last game completely worthless. So everyone who bought MWII,basically wasted their money on that game.

SBMM ruined this game for me. I want to relax and have fun, not be stressed out and in a bad mood because the game company feels the need to manipulate my experience by making it extremely competitive.

What do you mean by "wrap up the trilogy"? There is no continuous story between 2019, MW2 and MW3. You can play them completely separately and miss nothing.

@Deathmare235 MW was a good reboot. MW2 felt like a side quest but at least the story was completely original. MW3 is random bs happening while pretending to be the original Modern Warfare 2.
The worst part is that they killed off Soap (again!) in the dumbest way possible because the writers noticed that without a main character's death, this game would have no ending.
I thought I was going to buy MWIII but decided to quit playing COD altogether after being fed up with the shady engagement tactics, manipulation, and monetization practices being put in the game by the devs and Activision since 2019. I've been COD-free for over 4 months and I've found much better games to play in my spare time that don't cause my blood pressure to skyrocket 2 minutes into a game. The last COD I truly enjoyed was Cold War, but since then it has been a disaster.
Exact same for me, I played Cold War 2 years because I hated vanguard so much, I played mw2 then quit a couple months before mw3, now I play siege and it’s way funnier imo since I only ever played search anyways

MW2023 is a disgusting slap is the face. The 3 hour campaign filled with lousy bot killing is embarrassing. The same UI is dumb. The lack of faction announcers and music is dumb. SBMM is horrendous. Being forced to use random weapons to level up your weapon of choice is dumb. The rampant voice chat banning is childish and boring. I'm glad COD was laughed at.
Not only did they slapped a 3 instead of a 2. They dared using treyarch name to bait us (those who still havent buy it) into buying the game just for zombies. For me a zombies veteran who has followed the story since BO1 and who also enjoyed the shit out of CW zombies that was a big insult and middle finger.

so true. i was a huge fan of the original black ops/wow zombies, and cold war having round based, and you could extract, perk upgrades and field upgrades were pretty cool, and didn’t change gameplay all that much, easter eggs weren’t too difficult and were enjoyable. thats just round based, outbreak in its own was put together pretty well, not too difficult and if you had a group of good players you could get pretty high into the outbreak rounds.

I’ve been playing Modern Warfare Remastered for 8 years. Hardcore TDM doesn’t have enough players for SBMM to kick in. I can actually have a winning streak in that game without being punished and nerfed.
If this had been DLC, the campaign basically should’ve been used on building Makarov up as a villain, with a proper MW3 being the plot to bring him down

Hot take, but I honestly would’ve preferred this but also from the perspective of a new set of characters rather than task force 141. Kind of like Halo ODST where it’s more of a spin off that ties into the story by building up Makarov and maybe introducing some new characters to the saga

I quit COD after Black Ops 3 came back when Modern Warfare came out. I quit again when they came out with MW3 this year and will probably never play COD again. I miss World at War, Modern Warfare the original, MW2 and Black Ops. These new games are junk and its time to move on to something different. I was hoping when they revived the modern warfare series this would be back to old days but sadly no. I feel this franchise is lost.

I agree with you and have the same plan but I want to check out cod 2024, if the rumors are true and treyarch's been allowed to cook for 4 years there might be potential for a fun cod that feels like the old days again. Won't be buying on launch though
MW2019 had an identity. Both sequels have no style. So generic and samey. No commitment to an overarching theme with factions, announcers, music, setting etc.

The "community " wasnt begging for more HP. It was the hardcore nerds. The "community" wasnt asking for boost sliding and Boosted speed. It was the hardcore nerds that were asking for that kind of BS. The Community don't know what they want because if they did MW3 would not have failed. The reason why It failed was because of a lack luster second mode, a reskinned Campaign and a multiplayer that was Several Tears Worse then Any cod, all thanks to the "community" that asked for BS that made every one leave and left them to play with the only people still playing this dog turd, which are the Hackers. So here it is. The COD made for the Cod Community, And no one else.
A very unpopular opinion: "There should just be a single COD multiplayer experience."
They can release new GOOD campaign each year or whatever. But I'm tired of new multiplayer every year with different maps.
Support multiplayer for 4-5 years and when people get tired of it, release a new MP. This way, studios get time to engineer cool new things and it doesn't feel repetitive. It blows my mind that COD community is not demanding this.

Nah. IMO Multiplayer arcade shooters like COD are too repetitive for a 5 year life. I honestly think COD'S development setup is great with how we can get different flavors from the different devs each year. It's up to the devs to make the game worth a damn which they haven't lately.

To your points about Zombies, I play from Japan. If I want to play zombies, it takes at least 5 minutes to find a game, and the game will always be at 200 or more ping. In a sense, it's already dead - in Japan lol
I play on the east coast of the US and I'm having the same issues my game doesn't usually find a match of zombies below 180ms. It doesn't matter what time of the day I'm searching either. So I'm constantly stuck playing games with high latency and packet burst. I'm convinced that's what causes my game to crash daily with the your profile has been signed out error.

I’ll never understand why this is so hard for activision to understand. You have 3 studios who all do 1 thing really well(or at least pretty well) Infinity Ward usually has fun campaigns, SHG usually does pretty good MP, and Treyarch crushes zombies. Just have those 3 teams focus on their strengths. Then have the other studios support as needed. Problem is Warzone has bled in and ruined everything. Campaign is naw Warzone. Zombies is now Warzone. Everything is about Warzone. I’m so happy battle royale games are finally dying out. What a terrible terrible fad
CoD as a whole sucks. I don’t care to play a game with 500 attachments on 500 guns that are outclassed by the same 5 overall guns in the franchise. You die in 1-2 bullets. There is no gunplay or gunfights. It’s just…shit.
How they thought that giving us 80 different sights and grips which u cannot distinguish by the way, is OK, is mind-boggling. Hours and hours wasted to program this BS for nothing, as you said, ppl download the COD app and all the metas are already showed, everybody plays the same guns, there is no variety. I was having pure junky fun when the loadouts were bugged and didnt work, ppl had to be creative and use ground weapons

It was overhated when it came out, but man I loved it since it launched. Pretty much just a slightly more rebalanced MW2 (there's still OP guns and final stand lol) and plenty of great maps!
And the campaign was a perfect final sendoff to the OG modern warfare trilogy

Because it wasn't infinity wards choice OR Sledgehammer Games choice. It was Activision's choice to force IW and SHG to make it MW3 instead of the Las Almas side story like originally intended. MW2 made them a fuck ton of money but also lost them money because of IWs incompetence and ego to do what the community wanted. They saw how much the community started to dwindle. So, they decided to switch gears into it being a new title because of how much bad press MW2 was getting at the halfway point in the summer.
seeing people still put MW3 up on top of "best modern COD games" because of muh movement and shit that only sweats care about when there is so much shit piled on MW3 is really telling
It's funny because it's still possible to move in MWII, but it _actually_ requires skill instead of sped up animations that now look janky because they were not meant to be that speed.
They already said the next cod will be open world. Get ready to play campaign, zombies, and warzone in the same map 😂

I loved the original MW3. MW2 was supposed to get a ton more fixes, until Infinity Ward had a fallout with Activision.
If your game is good enough, time between release and DLC won’t even matter. Elden Ring’s DLC is dropping 2.5 years after release. People still by the latest op’s in Siege’s 9th year! Just make an enjoyable and ever changing game and people will stick around.
MW III is like a bland, boring & forgetable remake movie that functions as a cash grab while MW3 is like a Action movie that you would like to have a thrill if you want to escape from reality.
This MW (Reboot) trilogy feels like the Blade film trilogy. The first entry being solid, the second entry being flawed, but fun, and the last one being trash.

This MW campaign story is like Disney’s treatment of Star Wars… in that characters cannot die! Basically no one can, hero or villain. The amount of times characters are in situations where they should die or at least be injured and out of the picture for an extended period they just magically decide to be alive and well.

Here's how I see the reboot campaigns after (unfortunately) going through Reboot 3's campaign at the time.
2019 = The Force Awakens
2022 = The Last Jedi
2023 = The Rise of Skywalker

I feel the exact same way, especially since the first ones both had potential and for the 2nd one people were willing to forgive them since they thought the sequel would be good

I won't even consider buying a cod if there's SBMM. In online PvP you need only two modes: Random and Ranked. Ranked is for when you want to perform your best. Random is for when you want to just play and chill. Sometimes you have a hard lobby, sometimes an easy or medium one. You can decide to leave the lobby at the end of the game and find a different lobby. This is how we did it back when we played black ops 1 religiously. Sometimes we had a hacker in the lobby, so we looked for a different lobby.
Before all these live service games it was SIMPLE. Companies would try to make the BEST games possible because that’s what sold the most and therefore made the most money.
Now for some reason we buy games that aren’t even finished, hoping they get updated to eventually become good.

They butchered every game they've touched just about, Advanced Warfare was forgettable, WWII was boring, and Vanguard was just atrocious. They were supposed to develop Cold War but they couldn't get along with Raven Software long enough to finish the game in the deadline limit so they got demoted as lead developers and poor Treyarch got dragged by their ankles into finishing it.
Coming from an MP only player, I quite liked AW. Most dynamic COD movement AFAIK. Wasn't really into most of the guns in the game though

I can understand not wanting to be overwhelmingly negative, but those are big issues in a game that relies incredibly heavily on multiplayer.
The return of graves and shepherd was super confusing to me too, but when I did some research it turns out that he was brought back in warzone 2 please make a video about their attempts at driving the story through warzone without considering players who mainly play campaign or normal multiplayer 🙏🙏

I abandoned CoD when bo4 dropped. As a zombies players what they did to the mode was disgusting. I didn't buy another game until this year when I bought CW on sale 😂. Mw2019 and MW2 looked good but not enough to make me wanna buy them.

Idk if keeping gunsmith/not using pick 10 was fully infinity wards choice. Carry forward has allowed them to keep selling all the bundles from MW2 and allow the items to still be used. It seems like a major money focused move, probably from Activision

The classics maps dont feel good at all because they were designed for 2009s movement. So when you you can get from 1 side of the map to the other in like 4 seconds it completely breaks the flow of the maps for mw3
If you play likes of S&D you see how broken the flow of the maps are with how fast you can move
Pretty much. In 2009's MW2, the maps were perfectly designed for the movement system they had at the time.
With them being implemented into MWIII, the maps now feel much smaller due to the new movement system which has you, as you said, zoom from one side of the map to another in 4 seconds.
I haven't bought MW3. I'm done with COD after MW2 and Vangaurd. Might grab it in a couple years when it's $10 used
I just remembered, on the level where you capture Makarov at the stadium and push him around and there’s the mechanic of shoving him 😂 I had lost so much investment in taking the game seriously by that point that I just started goofing off and constantly pushing him around.

Solution to the cooldowns on the acquisitions is if it actually reduced like your insured weapon slots(something that isn't even in place) another way to justify cooldowns(current cooldowns as is) is if they were upgradeable(talking about like how cold war had the permanent upgrades to perks etc) then the cooldowns being as is currently(with no reduction factors) would feel justifiable.
I've said numerous times with my friends, that the only thing that would bring me back is a faithful BO2 remaster. But I gotta be honest, I'm not even sure if that would be enough. CoD just needs to end or take a brake or something. Which will never happen because Activision likes money too much. This franchise is dead. Yes, it still makes money and people are still playing it, but CoD as we knew it and what we once loved is dead. I'm dont trying to hold out faith for a return to form and for it to return to it's roots.

How do you play on MWII maps on MWIII? I usually get into the MW2 remastered maps, or the new maps. But never have seen Farm 18 or Shoot House. Do I need to download something?

*The Community got so consumed and amazed by the movement in MWIII2023* , they failed to see how terrible and inconsistent the game is and the *Multiplayer the gold standard of COD is no longer the primary focus of the game* as it should be ,Automatic disbanding of lobbies nobody ask for that, there a button you press to back out. The game is fast & insane pace but the *RELOADING IS SLOW AND CLUNKY, NO Slight of Hand, Fast Reload, Hustle* , the Snipers are slow and inconsistent gunnfights and hit detection.
The MWII2022 movement was intentionally made different just to improve it the next game to keep players in the *Money Matrix*
i still dont know if it really would have been better for it to be sold as mw2 dlc because it was not liked by the time of mw3´s release, and it would have still costed way too much money

First off Remember when Vanguard and Ricochet was suppose to be released at the same time but magically, Ricochet not only did not release the same time, till this day, Ricochet still doesn't do what all anti-cheats do, ban cheaters. Not only does ricochet doesn't do what its suppose to do, activision actually sponsors and lets "Content Creators" cheat on their game. If you want to scam customers, just watch what Activision is doing because that's what they are doing.

This would be a great mode for warzone: basically a massive pvp with different bases to be captured.
If you have played elder scrolls online it would be like cyrodiil pvp but in cod.
For those who haven’t, there are 3 factions in a massive pvp map. You choose one and you try to capture other factions castles and shit. When you capture a castle you get new spawn point there. No round timers, just goes on and on. You can roam around the map freely and do other stuff or be in the battles. You could log out and continue at the same place next time you log in.
And yes I know activision will never do this because too much work.

The special things about cod campaigns is that there’s something very remeberable after finishing the game with the new MWIII I don’t remember any cutscenes expect for a hella ass ones
It’s money, Activision won’t stop doing yearly releases because the fans will eat it up every single time. When you rush the developers they won’t have time to make an actual good product.

ive hated the class system since mw2019 idk if it was warzone that caused it but its so fucking complicated now and there are so many unnecessary sights and attachments
I have a feeling the open combat missions were more so done to save time rather than anything else. They probably just didnt have the time to make an entire campaigns worth of unique missions and areas, so they just reused warzone areas and threw a bunch of enemy AI around
Almost got me questioning myself for a moment there during the comparison questionaire but I was literally saying to myself "both" (old MW3 and new MW3) to every question. Felt like you were leading it in a way that was only going to talk shit about the new MW3 :)
Romanova was also included in dmz season 4 cutscene. So a slight bit of more screen time 😂
