The Undiscovered Secrets of Final Fantasy X

  • Recently, I finished playing my first ever Final Fantasy game, and it was FFX. WOW... and there are several more of these games that people cherish to death? I can't wait to get into FF6, 7, 8, and 9 (those are the ones everybody is telling me to play). If they have the same amount of underlying religious and psychological symbolism, then you guys are in for some serious treats in the near future. I had so much fun investigating this game... and I hope that you like the secrets I might've uncovered about FFX's influences.

      @Valkyrie ALTER My parents gifted me FFX-2, after loving and playing FFX everyday. I remember the FFX-2 intro making me ultra embarrassed as a kid. I see what they tried to make with this game, great ATB combat but rest of this game feels off, unfocused and wrong. Never touched FFX-2 after buying the HD collection.

      @@extradipboneless I hated FFX-2 at the time because I was expecting a faithful continuation of the FFX storyline - years later though I had long since come to terms with the fact that it was just a fan service game, and I picked it up again and enjoyed it very much for what it was. It will never tell a great story, but there is plenty of fun to be had along the way.

    This was a great video to watch, especially as someone who plays FFXIV where these same religious and psychological tones popped up in Shadowbringers. I just thought it was a neat idea to make certain characters seem even more powerful than what has been shown before, but now it's a bit spooky how close they are.

    None of the other Final Fantasy games have their religion as the cultural core that is wrapped up in the main antagonist like FFX has.
    Aeons are found throughout all of the FF games but they’re not presented in the way that FFX does.

    Anxiously awaiting a Xenogears video... Anywho, Xenogears is far beyond the Final Fantasy games in terms of religious/spiritual and psychological symbolism and exploration. It will definitely be on your top 5 most profound games list. A rather deep and thought provoking gem of a game, despite being rushed/unfinished and gameplay being decent at best. There are written works further expanding and explaining the narrative and subtext too, basically the ultimania, of which being "Perfect Works".
    Fun fact: Xenogears' premise was pitched to Sakaguchi for FF7 but was deemed too controversial for a mass audience. The story behind its development is very interesting as well.

    A very excelent video, glad you liked to play FFX. Very well made analysis.
    If you are into FF games now, I recomend you if you like to play Final Fantasy VII and the 2020 remake, Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy IX, Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XV, they will be enjoyable and you will like their plot, character development, themes and mechanics. Also, I recomend you an Squaresoft related game called Xenogears, is very awesome and well rich in much religious, philosophical, sci-fi and psychology themes :)

  • @AirTails
    @AirTails Před 3 lety +1

    I'm so glad you played this, and I learned something new! Incidentally, there is an entity similar to aeons (primals) in Final Fantasy XIV called Sophia. Her theme tune during the fight mentions gnosticism in the lyrics, and she summons a disembodied head called a Demiurge during the fight. Her theme seemed to be about maintaining balance and order, and she has a lot of iconography of weighing scales.
    I'd love to see what you make of Final Fantasy IX if you ever get the chance to play it. It's a slower burn than FFX initially and takes a while for the scale of the story to become apparent, but it has surprisingly deep themes despite its whimsical art style

    • @ohamatchhams
      @ohamatchhams Před 3 lety

      Ironically with all the FFXIV attempts to deconstruct mythology, The Mother Crystal in FFXIV is ended up representing Pistis Sophia's role in FFXIV, just beforehand when a boss actually named Sophia is reduced into a major enemy
      Also Final Fantasy games will never escape Gnosticism, as Final Fantasy (and SMT/Persona) series relies on breaking the yoke of Fate and corrupt divinities, much like how Sethian Gnostic sects' narratives pertains to go for

    This my JAM right here!
    FFX was my first and still favorite FF. I enjoyed some of the DS titles like tactics and VII Japanese edition. But nothing and no other RPG has ever done it for me like FFX. I love the music, the game play style, the story mesmerized me. I literally fell for Yuna and Lulu is so goth I LOVE it! Auron was the perfect stoic balance the the other characters. I just love this game. I'm so glad I got to play it on the original PS2 back in the day when it came out. The only problem I have is for another FF to live up to this one for me. I hear a lot of people feel that way about their first FF. I'm glad mine was THIS one. I can't imagine being disappointed with this one.

    so then the adventure/journey the characters go through is their journey towards gnosis.. slowly attaining knowledge of the true ways of the world as they travel.. each character could also represent different virtues/skills that a journeyman is supposed to hone/embrace/overcome as they progress in their quest for gnosis.
