FINALLY. A putter review where Rick actually used the super expensive virtual putting mat to… review the putter and its performance
I own a DF3. I can say I have never purchased a golf club that made such a dramatic change in my game more than the DF3. In my opinion, best putter ever made.
Who gives a flying fuck what it looks like if it’s helping your scoring like that?!! I will never understand peoples obsession with appearances if the club performs
I also recently bought one and it is amazing.
So you're saying you'll drive a Yugo as long as it runs? Appearance matters it always has. Y'all just trying to convince yourselves otherwise because that putter is ugly as hell
@@Torta--is--PLUR that's your opinion and you are welcome to it. I think it is awesome. It think it looks and sounds better than the modern big boxy mallets like Spyder.
add me to this list...I've had mine 4 months and has only gotten better. Best equipment investment I ever made for my game. For perspective I'm currently a 1.7 and hovered between 2-5 for a few years now. My arrcos putting stats have gone from 33.1 (before DF3 never got below 32.4 at any one time) to 30.3 with 14 rounds of the LAB.
2-3 handicap here, who just retired a 22-year-old Scottie Newport Midslant (goodbye, old friend 😢). My achilles heel has always been 4-5 footers. Nerves, occasional yips. The DF3 cured that for me. I've gotten over the look because I'm consistently starting to be at or under par with almost no bunnies missed in my rounds. Pay the price, it's worth it.
That has been the consensus everywhere. I retired an old Scotty Teryllium a few years ago for a Spyder. Absolutely love it and roll it exceptionally well. So much so that according to SAM Putt Lab I would've ranked in the top 10 on the PGA Tour for consistency and something else I can't remember. Even still I'm considering the DF3 because I just love the putter and want to give it a go. With my Spyder though I make a lot more putts and really do roll it exceptionally well.
Been gaming a DF 2.1 since May 2023. A few observations from the journey:
1. It does take a break-in period to get used to not having to fight putter torque. Took me about 2 months to just have the confidence to turn off the targeting computer and let the Force guide the proton torpedoes :)
2. Results: 3 putts have almost entirely disappeared from my card, and making putts is the norm now. When I do start missing 1 putts, it's always been due to putting stroke entropy (getting handsy and push/pull). I go back to stroke basics and always end up righting the ship. You will frequently have rounds where you are making EVERY putt, and your worst putting rounds end up with no 3 putts...not a bad place to be.
3. Friend got a DF3 a few months ago (after seeing my results). I rolled his a few times, and accounting for differences in lie/length, found the DF3 to inspire less confidence than the DF2.1 and not perform as well for me...feels like I have gotten used to the huge DF2.1 head and miss the confidence it inspires
While I most likely would have started with the DF3 if it were available last year, I'm super happy with the DF2.1 and going to the DF3 at this point feels like I'm giving up forgiveness. Bottom line - you're in good hands with either putter
I really wanted to hate this putter at first because of the appearance and center shaft. After hitting every putter in my local PGA Superstore, it provided by far the best feel and highest consistency for me. Placed an order online a week later after doing the remote fitting.
cool. I want one too. can I borrow 300 bucks? I'll pay u back in 3 months.
I did the remote fitting too, definitely worth it to just confirm the measurements / angles. It was way easier to do the remote fitting than I thought it would be. Just record a 5 second vid and send it in.
Silly that people will completely tune out when they hear $500+ putter but will gladly pay that and more for a driver. Arguably, putter is where you should pay the most money as it’s the only club you will use on every hole.
Not if you chip in!
Half a grand to hit a ball straight for 15 feet
I did tune out abit I admit but I also tune out when I hear £500 for any single club lol few weeks ago I got myself a "new" driver the cobra radspeed and I paid a little over £100
@@itsdaley it's also more like 1k the way Rick's is configured
top money earners in the pga are best drivers/ball strikers. drive for dough is the honest truth. who cares if you put well when it took you 5 strokes to get on the green
Peter finch moaning about the center shaft putter in the golfbidder challenge..now he has a centre shaft lab in the bag
Haha yes I noticed that myself. Not for me a centre shaft putter
He did comment about how it hurt him to do it at the time though.
@@TG-mt6keneither was Finches, until it was...
Takes a big person to admit they were wrong, and make the change
I've had a DF3 for about 6 weeks now, always a Scotty guy historically, and it has changed my putting life. Admittedly it took me about 4-5 rounds to get into a groove with it on course, however, it is now automatic. From short distances, 0-5 ft., I very rarely miss, 6-10 ft. make percentage 70% Long lag putts with it were the hardest to get acclimated too, but now I have post lag tap in's all the time, my golf buddy's hate me for it.
I’ve said this elsewhere on Rick’s videos, but I finally bit the bullet and made the jump from an Odessey 2-ball to the L.A.B. DF 2.1 Armlock a year ago & it completely transformed my putting. I used to be an atrocious putter. Now it’s more of a strength. The arm lock part was crucial too though & you absolutely MUST go through the online fitting to make sure it’s designed specifically for your individual putting stroke. I cannot imagine ever using a different putter. The L.A.B. Is incredible.
I bought the LAB blade putter 6 months ago. Just like with sky diving, once your brain stops trying to find a way out and accepts the situation (let it swing), the experience is amazing!
You should call Peter Finch and let him know that this putter is supposed to improve his putting. 😂😂
Great comment 😂😂 no one gave you love, but that's hilarious
Haha. I see what you did there.
Underrated hilarious comment!!
isn't he actually using this one? :D
sorry read that wrong =D
Missing the 15 footer is one of the reasons I love your channel. It always seems so genuine.
I put this in the bag Friday last week, I just returns to square, pick your line and it goes where you’ve aimed. Fabulous putter.
Had my DF 2.1 for just over a year now. Single handedly the best thing I've bought for my game, and everyone loves it! It's a conversation starter, great if you do business on the golf course, pays its self back faster than you can say 'No more 3 putts'.
Just got fitted for one at Scottsdale golf with Tom Murray, great experience. Putter built to my spec while I waited. Used it 4 times now, won 2 match plays, won a best gross and had 5 birdies in one round. Results say it all, highly recommended that people try these.
The LAB putters genuinely feel like a cheat code when it comes to putting. Wherever you aim it , the balls going there. So if you can read putts pretty good then you're putting will significantly improve
I’ve been using a DF3 for 2 months now and I would say it is so easy to get this putter on line. I am definitely making more putts per round. It takes 4-5 rounds to get used to it but once you do, it’s fantastic.
Hi Rick I've had my DF3 for 8 weeks and
it's transformed my putting.
I had bought a new 3 wood few months back and didnt like it so had some store credit when i returned the wood and went to check out the new scottys and figured id try one the labs while i was at it. And the first thing that amazed me was the feel i never expected it to feel that soft the sound makes u think it would be firm but it as soft as butter honestly best feeling better off the face ever. So it went in the bag and in 2 months time ive had 2 3 putts and it is just one the best if not the best putter ive ever had the pleasure of using. My home course greens are always firm and fast and usually range from 12 to 14 on the stimp meter and this putter makes it look easy. Cant say enough good things about it df3 for life 😊
As someone who moved from a Spider Tour X to the LAB, then back, I can say after 6 weeks of ownership I couldn't control distance. There is something about rotational torque of traditional putters that allows for a better sensation of distance. LAB, the company, has discussed the distance control issue, and say it wakes time to get used to. I gave it a month and a half and just never could feel distance I was facing on each putt, leaving most putts short. My playing partner had the same problem with distance control with his LAB, and mid-round after he left EVERY putt short, I haded him my Spider (which I went back to) and he was immediately stunned and looked at me in silence with his mouth open. I said "you can now feel distance". BUT, I will admit the LAB start the ball on the perfect line (of where your shoulders are aligned).
I’ve had a DF 2.1 for a couple years. A friend of mine got a link a year and a half ago. Here is what you’ll notice immediately. You lip out way more. It happens to everyone. Ricked just lipped out three putts in a row. The reason why this happens is because you are hitting your line more often. So you lip out more but previously those putts would have completely missed the hole. Cheers!
They are amazing. Takes a few weeks to get used to but once you do you wont use a normal putter ever again!
Got myself a DF3. Changed my putting. Feel confident over 5-7 ft par saves. Making around one extra birdie a round. Recommend getting fitted because the 35in felt horrible in my hands compared to the 34in.
Just got mine this past week. Incredible putter - just align and go. One bit of advice when you are adjusting to the DF3 or any LAB putter is actually just take your thumbs off in your stroke at first. You will want to apply pressure to try and keep the face square like other putters, but you don't have to. Good way to get used to the new stroke.
It is worth every single penny! The best golf purchase I’ve ever made. Wouldn’t think twice now to recommend them. 🙌🏽 took 6 shots off my game. Unreal!
Can you do the same challenge with your Ping putter? I’ve seen you putt so wel with that one!
I think Vikings used to fight with the original version.
Lol
Solid video Rick! Ive got a 46" 79.5° Tpt shaft df3 blue broomstick putter ordered.
Super excited to get it in my hands soon! Would love to see the df3 make it into your bag as well
I’ve commented on multiple video on the main channel that you should put a lab in the bag. Glad you’re digging it.
I was on the fence between a spider or the lab putter... went into golf galaxy and seen a used SC squareback 2... grabbed it to try and it felt so smooth and consistent... I paid 300 for that thing and never even tried another putter.... after using it on course I love this putter even more.
Was in the same spot! The TM Spiders are super stable, but at the end of the day nothing beats that LAB technology
Interested to see the results of the virtual fitting Rick. Also what's most intriguing is not the fact that the putter sinks balls but on misses the dispersion is so much better. Don't have one, but tried one from a stranger on the putting green at the course and was blown away at how 'automatic' the DF3 was.
I purchased one this spring, I wasn't going to, $450!, but my wife said "you'd spend $500+ on a new driver, why wouldn't you spend that on a putter?", smart woman! It 100% has made me a better putter and lowered my scores. I used to really struggle with the 3-10' putts, now I'm rolling in a high percentage of them. Very happy with the LAB putter! Thanks for the review Rick!
fit for the new DF3 in mid June. what a difference! Amazing what happens when you can rely on a consistent stroke and improved alignment.
I still use the 2.1 and it improved my scores the first day I used it. My golf buddy now uses the 3.0 and is loving it. Your buddy Pete is using it too!
I first picked a used DF 2.1 and didn't think I could game it but after a few days of rolling it on a putting mat I took it out a it was awesome , a few weeks later I grabbed a DF 3 ( I work at a new and used golf store ) that was traded in and its also great, i do like the smaller head but I can play with either , I have been searching for a new putter for years and now I have two !!! neither were fit but I either lucked out on the lie angle or I just adapted, I'm thinking the ladder as I set the putter down tip shaft til head is sitting flat on the ground grip and go.
If it was easy to get in my country I’d probably order one,
I ended up with a Scotty Cameron phantom 9 because I could actually go and get a fitting for one and love it so far.
I’m terrible at golf but having a sick putter gives me confidence in the short game at least😂
Come on over to the dark side Rick ... LAB is fun .. Erik, Peter, the Bryans ... Adam Scott ... how many reasons do you still need :D
I got the 2.1 last month. The confidence i have on the green is night and day
Same at this point my brain short circuits if I try and use anyone else’s putter
Haven’t seen Rick smile so much on a review. Putting was nice to see.
easily the best putter on the market!
Put a lab Mezz Max into the bag a couple of weeks ago and a believer in the performance. There’s confidence within 10 and misses don’t penalize you. There is definitely an adjustment period with this club, which I am still getting used to. Last 5 rounds have all had total putts under 30. L.A.B is definitely worth the investment!
Got the DF3 3 w ago. Reduced my putting stats by 4 shoots a round. I’m loving it. Can’t imagine me changing it ever. I’m a scratch player.
I had one of the Mezza putters, and although I liked it, I could never get it lined up properly. I just don’t have a putting stroke that aligns with how you need to use this putter. It did have a wonderful roll and when I lined it up right, I had some good success. I went back to my Toulon Chicago.
Hahaha, imagine if every time we open our putter covers, it would sing something like, "yay, you can do it!" lol you're so funny, Rick. TYSM for the review!
Bryson will armlock the putter and start using it😂
I absolutely love mine. Even when I miss a putt prior to that putt I have all the confidence in the world that I’m making it. I think that’s half the battle.
Bit the bullet and ordered my custom one last week, very much looking forward to getting it. My putting stats are already good but can't hurt to have something that makes life easier, even if it cost as much as my 10k driver 😂
Been playing my Lab DF2.1 all year and went from 31 putts a round with my old mallet putter to 28 putts a round with the Lab…number never lie. Even had a round with 24 and a few with 25 putts. These things just work and are worth every penny.
Very nice improvement.
I trust you. I’m going to do that one or the LA putter. I’m not sure. But with your review LAB is in first place
I never considered jumping on the LAB hype train... but after watching your review on this, I am truly considering this as my next putter. Thanks for your review, Rick!
All I can say is I am a scratch golfer and putting is my strength at golf so I had no need to get rid of my Scotty Cameron that I have used for the last 4 years but after trying the LAB GOLF MEZZ 1 MAXX 38” COUNTER BALANCE putter a few months ago I was blown away at how much better I could putt when I thought I was a great putter already now I am confident over every single putt I face. I will never switch again unless something insane comes out. It’s worth every penny and I absolutely love LAB GOLF! 🙂👍🏼⛳️🇺🇸
I love my DF2.1, but I will admit its size is kinda nuts. On the good side, the size makes it a super forgiving putter. But on the bad side, it’s *very difficult* to putt with from off the green, and especially if the ball is up against the collar.
My wife has a DF3, and I really like how much more compact it is. It’s just as forgiving as the DF2.1 too.
Love that putter with the white grip though
Rick, if you haven’t, I’d like to see you review “Honu” new putters. Same face balance/torque free putter technology, but made from wood
Put it in the bag, Rick!
Thanks for the review. The timing was perfect. I was about 90 percent convinced to buy this putter later today. I'm all in now.
I play Mezz Max, and I know it has helped. I yipped plenty of five footers, now they go in. LAB golf is legit 👍🏻
I'm not a good putter, but... I got my DF3 4weeks ago, and it's a game changer it's actually unreal. it feels like cheating. Never had so many 1 putts and not missed any inside 5ft. Every putt I say to myself, wow. I thought the price was high, but after the first round with it, I would have happily paid double it's incredible. Putting was my weakest part. Now it's the strongest. If you play golf regularly, it's worth the investment. It game changing.
Gamed the link for around a year, just picked up a mezz max. LAB is 100% a game changer. Dont let the price tag run you away, its a club used on every hole
I absolutely love the way the DF3 looks
I wanted to not believe in the hype, but I got one in the bag now, and as someone who has gone through too many putters to count, this one will be staying for a very long time. Go to your local golf store and roll some with it if you have the chance!
The Odyssey backstryke should have been more popular
I play with the backstryke I love it had it for like 12 years
he actually hits the putter at 5:00
Been waiting for this video, I’ve even made comments to throw it in the bag in the past. About time!
Good see the expensive Ping putter fitting worked out 😂
Have the DF 3, it is a fantastic putter. It will improve almost anyone’s putting. It does what it claims it will do.
Pete is using one of these and he's been putting really well
I believe Peter Finch uses the prior generation of this putter. I couldn't hear the sound of putter and ball in this video, but the one Finch uses makes a wonderful sound at impact.
he currently uses df3 with the same tpt shaft.. it’s almost a grand😢
Rick's new PING putter is punching the air right now...
Love the DF3, I own one myself and have seen quite of bit of improvement on the greens in strokes gained
Just watched the Trevino documentary on Sky. He won a major with a $10 putter he bought in Holland. Putting is all in your head. Put your money into filling your oil tank for the winter.
This must be your new putter, Rick. This is NUTS.
Love my df3 putts inside 6 feet are automatic. Speed control on longer putts is a work in progress
I'm just getting into golf and the amount of training tech out there is absolutely insane.
Rick: headcover has a significant improvement, feels nice, good stitching, etc… “proceeds to throw it on the ground”
What shaft did you opt for Rick? Did you try the upgrades?
I’ve been using the same putter for about 20 years, I’ve tested loads of different putters and none of them have came close to matching my old putter, people pay 500 or 600 for a driver they will only use for a couple of years where as a good putter can last decades 👍.
You may have pulled the 15ft putt, but damn you are very good on pace!
Well to took you long enough. LAB designed 100% balanced putters years ago. You don't have to hit putts with LAB putters, you just make a stroke and the putter glides through because of it's pure balance. The DF2.1 replaced my Scotty Cameron Newport 2 four years ago. It stayed in my bag until the MEZZ MAX was released. If you haven't demo'd a LAB putter your missing out on the best putter line in golf.
I have a broom stick 79.5 degree df 2.1 (blue) for a few years. There is nothing like the feel of a straight back straight through putting stroke with a perfectly balanced putter.
I am lucky. Looks do not bother me. I use the DF 2.1 with no problems. I believe it is still the most forgiving putter in the LAB line and maybe in golf 😊
I think I have the strangest putter of any of my golf groups I’ve played with. They have blades, crescents, a handful of mallets. I’m the one with a Wilson Infinity Birmingham in the bag. If the putter looks good great but I need something that’s going to get me closer to the hole!
You should give Argolf putters a shot from France. So good that they replaced my Scotty, Cheers from Canada
really like these putters, i'm a scottie boi, but i fancy these a lot. would love to see you on course with it for sures
Now try that ladder drill without the laser line of sight on the carpet.
Love my DF3. Great honest vid. Paying for Technology…like that analogy
Guy has found his new putter!
Been waiting for another putter review on the zen putting green 💪
Good shit Rick. Love the new channel.
Very interesting. I'd like to see you try that same thing with a newport or standard mallet style for the comparison.
Seemore is another solid option that I hardly see mentioned or reviewed anywhere
I've had mine for over 2 years, and well... It's the best!
I own the 2.1 and it is the BEST, STRAIGHTEST, MOST CONSISTENT putter I've ever used. Used caps because thats exactly how i would say it out loud lol.
I’ve recently put a DF3 in my bag and though you get the mick taken out of you, I can definitely see the benefits! You should get a red, white and black to match your branding Rick! 😅
Love it! Will there be a Vice Golf putter review too? Really keen to get your thoughts on these
Damn you Rick. This channel makes me want to buy so many clubs. I already bought a Sim2 from you.
Welcome to the party pal!!! 😁
Got to hit one at pga superstore and was super impressed.
Rick, thanks for finally reviewing the DF3! Can you review a Lab Broomstick possibly?
I quite love the look of the DF 2.1. I would gladly put it in my bag if you want to send in down to Cape Town😊
Rick we really need you to test the wilson dynapwr lineup! the forged version they say is spectacular
