    BTP I must say, you are by far my favorite CZcams. The quality of the videos is second to none, seriously thank you for producing great content! However, as a heavy equipment operator on a dairy running triple mowers I will say that this operation is insanely inefficient. The cost of having 4 operators, running 4 big tractors and 4 mowers is much more than selling their 7210R for a 7230-7250R with a front pto and hitch and running tripples. If they kept 1 moco and switched their 7R to tripples they would without a doubt increase their current production by at least 25% while running 2 tractors and 2 operators.

    I would enjoy that job. I've cut hay years ago on our farm but not with machinery like that. MF pulltype mower behind a Cockshutt 40 gas tractor. Then a NH side deplivery rake behind a Ford 8N. Baling was done with NH 273 square baler behind the Cockshutt 40. These tractors had no cabs. I sat out in the heat, dust, pollen, mosquitos, wind and rain. That was all the easy part. The real work began when the bales were picked by hand and loaded on a hay rack, stacked and hauled in and again handled by hand to be stacked again in the feed yard. Some were tossed up into the hayloft of the big hip roofed barn. All this before breakfast lol.

    Great Video BTP, I suspect the main and most valid reason farmers use Moco's for alfalfa is it has a steel roller conditioning unit compared with fail on the triples and rubber roller on the NH self propelled unit, most alfalfa growers are very fussy about their cutting, conditioning and harvesting process, thanks for sharing

    We only need one operator when we do mowing and therefore one tractor. Reducing investment costs and ongoing costs (fuel, wages etc) we have got triples with swathers (class disco 8550 as) whoch stands for auto swather. We got them for approximately 6000usd and for the tractor we have a 2008 same iron 210 with front linkage and front pto. This is an 8.5 metre setup and we travel at 16-24 kph . (Up to 15mph)

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  Před 5 lety +2

      That is a nice set up. How many acres do you mow per cutting and how many cutting do you mow per year? This farm raises grain and mills cows. These tractors will each see 1,000 hours of work in a year. The mowers will run seven cuttings from April to November. They get allot of use. 3 years worth of work on the tractors and 1.5 years of use on the mowers compared to many other farms. Because there are allot of acres to cover the farm likes to run new machine each year. The local dealers customers like buying 1 year old machines to keep their farms modern. It works out well for everyone as long as the equipment keeps moving through. As for as the labor factor the operators are employed year round so they would be doing something on the farm if they were not mowing.

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  Před 5 lety +2

      I don’t think the 946 moco has changed much in a decade or more. Around 2012 the drives around the center pivot went from green metal shields to black plastic shields. What they like do is stay up to date with new machines. These mowers will cut 1.5 years worth of work on seven cuttings. Many dairy’s only see 3 cuttings some will get 4 to 5. The tractors will see 1,000 hours of operating time which is about 3 years worth of work on other farms. In order to stay up and running and not dealing with repaired the farm likes to update their machines each year.

    44000x4 is 176000. a set of triples is 100000. ad 1 moco to cover the same acreage each pass thats 144000. thats a 26000 saving on mowers alone. then take away 2 drivers wages of probably 200 dollars a day (estimate)(im irish dont know the pay scale). add a 30 day hay season thats a 12000 dollar saving on labour. add that to the initial saving thats a 36000 dollar saving which would pay for the front link for one of those john deeres. i get if the area in america has a good trade in but here in ireland youd want to be nuts to have 4 moco mowers and no set of triples

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  Před 5 lety +1

      I think allot of the decision is what the John Deere dealer wants to carry. These tractors will rack up 1,000 hours or more in a year. They do three years worth of work in one year. The mowers will do one and a half years of cutting in a year compared to many other locations in the United States. Because of all the hours put on larger farms like this one and others in the area replace their machines every year. The dealer wants tractors and mowers that are easy to move onto the next customer. Other than this farm there is no market for triple mowers in a vast area.

    • @ESAgri
      @ESAgri Před 5 lety +1

      @@bigtractorpower in ireland a set of mowers is put on the tractor in spring and is taken off in october. but i get that in america things are different. some contractors over here could be mowing for 30 hours straight, just the way it is. i understand that the trade in value would be high on the trailed but a set of triples will do 10 years work and still be work 30k.

    i saw a lot of hydraulic hoses but also somting turning behind the pto. hehe
    but all those angles on the drawbar make some serious challenges if the cutters are pto driven.
    but after watching the video again more closely it looks like they use a combination of CHAINS and AXLES to transfer the PTO to the knifes.

    Hey bigtractorpower fans. Here are some fun facts. In order to have alfalfa seed, you must incorporate what are known as "cutter bees". Place them at the field, they break the "curl" of the husk containing the seed. You can't simply harvest alfalfa for seed without the use of Cutter Bees. Class dismissed.

    With somebody with that mini tractors and all that hate to cut it would seem to me that it would be feasible to buy a tractor with a PTO unit unit on the front of it and run the three mowers one on the front and one on each side do save on using all them tractor and we'll do a faster job it's just my opinion I like those I can't think of the name of them their Classics or whatever from Germany where they got the 3 mowers on the tractor at one time and they do an excellent job I really like those it's just my opinion

      I believe you are right regardless of trade in value you are using 4 tractors 4 mowers and paying 4 operators I think you would be ahead to have 1 mower conditioner and 1 triple mower even if you took a little loss trading in it wouldn't compare to 4 my opinion I run 2 tractors and 2 mowers so I can see cost but anytime you can save a ton of money and cut the same amount I think that would be worth it but I don't trade in for paint I run it till it starts giving trouble
