I use to work here back in the 90’s. Great to see inside again and so sad to see the damage. The statues on the stairs are all Greek and roman gods. The stained glass windows are saints, these windows the stair case and chimneys are all from the old house that burnt down in 1843. I set up the wine cellar you were in when I worked there and the big copper bins were used for logs for the fire place in the main hall. The room M14 was the bridal suite and the corridor to M2 where you were caught is meant to be haunted. Could tell you so much about the history etc. great to see it again

Its sad to know that a building like that with such complicated roof structure will probably never be repaired but will be slowly gutted of its interior fixtures carvings and panelling which will end up in auction houses or similar and the house will just decay to a ruin. But at least those pieces will live on somewhere else. Thank goodness its not been vandalised or graffitied. Trespass of land covers trespass to any buildings on that land also but is not a crime except for if it is an educational building or hospital or under certain amendments made to a law I can't recal atm maybe it's police and crinimal evidence act aka PACE section one like they said when they arrested them, also, I was shocked, they shone the light everywhere and ignored alarms lol, I have never been in a place that big, while I have but all the building where shut, some windows were open but I was sizing it up in the lock down, I have my own rules, for safety too, or not, I would always go alone and not tell anyone or even have a phone, that's why I used to take it serious, one distraction, you can die, another thing I would say is, talk over the police when they bust in, even if it upsets them at first, good things to say are ' I am not a threat, I am not armed I am not a thief, we didn't break in, we aren't breaking laws, glad to see you questioned there lawfulness too, I would too but most lack the balls, you can see him swallow when you say it almost lol

If it has been around since the 11th century it suggests it could have been a fee (gift) of land by William the conqueror to one of his knights. The end reminded a bit of the end of Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

its not 1000 yrs old, most of it was built in 1843. In UK 1000 yrs ago we lived in mud huts.
What a waste of tax payers money sending all those armed coppers out for a civil trespass.
Not surprised it closed, it looked like a crappy hotel.

That was a scary experience and how were you to know it was an unused MOD building? You wonder why buildings fall into disrepair but maintenance costs on these old buildings is why. In the case of this one it was probably a vanity building used for social purposes by one of the armed services. They can no longer afford to run it within MOD budget, and although it could be put on the market, who'd want to take it on as a commercial venture? It's very difficult to make enough money to cover maintenance costs, never mind make profit. And were you serious when you suggested that the stained glass windows might be former owners? Those were saints lads, and even the names of those saints were there. The Greek god who ate children? That was Saturn, who learned from a prophecy that he would be overthrown by one of his sons. So he ate them all but one, and that one was Zeus! Greek mythology is really interesting. Well I'm glad you didn't get thrown in jail and that you knew and could prove that you only committed trespass! At that point the arresting officer sounded much less sure of himself! A really interesting explore, but if there's a lesson to be learned it's not to be cavalier about alarm systems. Get out.... fast!

It's great to see these places being protected from could be vandalism with response from the police but extremely unprofessional to arrest you for trespass with it being a civil matter. Well done for knowing the law on this and making the police aware, I think you would of had many many hours at the police station if you didn't.

For trespassing, that a pretty massive response, especially armed police (there was no indication you were violent and/or armed). Although it's weird that it took them like 2 hours...if it warrants an armed response of 10 or more officers+K9, then why does it take 2+ hours?
