    After all of the researches, I will declare that this train type has the first SiC-VVVF that is outside of Japan and Singapore.

    I am shocked when I finally know that the VVVF is from Mitsubishi and made of SiC... I thought the VVVF had been from CAF itself :O

      I think it's likely a mix of mitsubishi and CAF propulsion parts for the traction system. The motors on these actually sound very similar to the CAF civity 563 . But without the mitsubishi SiC module.

    It has those deepish motor sounds that japanese trains like the meitetsu 1700 had. Very deep!! I really like it. Hope the uk has some trains like this in future.

      Think the closest thing is the class 331 (operated by Northern) which is also built by CAF and part of their Civity family of trains.

      @GraingerElectrical yeah that is true. I just hope CAF makes the next electric batch for trains down south. Like southeastern/southern etc

    In 2025 Civity BEMUs will take over the services literally in front of my house at the Niederrhein region in Germany. Im really excited if they will sound like the SNGs

    Finally found a train that sounds similar to the trains for the new metro here in Dhaka (except for braking)! I now have a clue on what manufacturer provided the traction systems for our trains.

    The inverter is what makes the continuous high pitched whining sound that can be heard from the departure of the train until the train has reached a certain speed where it’s not audible anymore, right ?

  • @poznanskiszybkowiec_official

    Who would have thought, that CAF would use Mitsubishi SiC inverters for once. Well, that's a cool fact though

    • @bb-3653
      @bb-3653 Před 10 měsíci

      They sound so awful on smaller trains though. Very quiet but very low motor sound. Such a bummer. Not all traction systems are low noise with SIC. But there's a chance that it will eliminate the noise saturation of motors and thus leave a bland ambiance.

      @@bb-3653 Very true. These can sound terrible if you are sitting on top of a motorised bogie, where a loud, eardrum-vibrating hum can be heard (very dependent on where you are on the train if you even hear it or not). And these trains entering a station like Schiphol is an awful experience: the screaming sound when they enter the station and come to a stop is annoyingly loud.
      Traindrivers also don't like these as the cabin itself is not as soundproof as it is on other trains, but this seems to be a CAF-issue (just like the hairline fractures found on many CAF trains)

      @weeardguy i was mostly talking in favour of the motor sounds. But SiC usually makes smaller trains too quiet. As in , you cant enjoy the motor experience. For me theres a fine balance between motor noise. I dont like when its too quiet. But obviously not too loud either. For me, these sound okay, the sound you are talking about where it screams alot is probably the modulation. It is pretty bizzare. That igbt scream. Also ive seen cab ride videos, in the drivers cab they seem to rumble alot. Likely something to do with annoying bearings on the wheel's makingna chugging noise. Which can seem annoying too.
      My opinion, the motor sounds are actually okay. The exess rumbling could be smoothened out and inproved, the IGBT screaming sound at low speed (departing ans arriving stations) could use a more smoother method of frequencies. Other than that id hate if they were silent.
      Also then humming noise your talking about can be heard with alot of hitachi/mitsubishi trains. Its the ventilator fans of the motors most likely. Some are quiter than others. Some sound pretty nice. It depends on the motors i guess.

      Leaving is not the biggest problem... arriving at a station like Schiphol (or any other station below streetlevel) is an experience I don't like. The screaming of the traction-electronics is awful.
