    The "roar-bark" can also sound rather...terrifying, depending on where you catch a maned wolf making that sound. It sounds exactly like how I would imagine a real-world "hellbeast" would sound.

    I live in southeast region of Brazil and once around 1am while driving in the city, I saw one of these guys running in the middle of the street, apparently scared. I followed it for a 100 meters or so and then he walked into a forest. They are not that rare around here with multiple sightings in rural areas.

    Here in Brazil this animal is relatively common. Here we call it Lobo-Guará. Other relatively common animals in Brazil are the Anta (tapir) and the Tucano (toucan). It would be nice to talk about them (if you haven't already). For example, I just discovered recently that toucans actually eat meat other than fruit.

      There are too many different species of animals for one person to have heard about them all. I believe in the mandela effect but no one can say an animal is a mandela effect due to the simple fact that there are just too many uncommon animals that a lot of people never heard of.

    I saw one of these in Odessa Florida in the mid-90s. It was about forty or fifty yards away behind the lake at my grandmother's house. It was a brand new subdivision at the very early stages of development and there wasn't many houses back there. Itwas still kind of wild. I couldn't believe my eyes. I had absolutely no idea what I was looking at and the internet didn't exist.

    This is one of the most unique animals that we have in Brazil, and they are even common in some places, I remember seeing only once in my life in a place right in the middle of nowhere

    Here in Brazil they are rare and inhabit the central area of the country, mostly Pantanal which is wet and other open low vegetation and arid regions. They are named "Lobo Guara" in portuguese.

      Nice joke, but we find weird species like that in the wild pretty often actually.
      Its what evolution produces, with change over time, you're bound to find species that are undergoing adaptation changes that seem odd or out of place.
      In other words, the maned wolf could be a species of deer in several thousands of years from now.

    In Brazil we call them lobo-guará. Lobo means wolf in portuguese, while guará comes from the word agoa'rá, which is tupi-guarani, an indigenous language, and it translates roughly to fuzzy.

      @@lucaspaixao3808 You can hear the bark yes, but it still is a very douchy move to tell someone to hear a sound that is not normally heard and then talk through it, it distracts the attention from the bark and even though you can hear it, you can't actually apreciate it's sound.

    We have maned wolfs in my region although ive never seen one in person, i hope to someday, my dad has a few times since he works in field studying plants

      unfortunately, he lives in cerrado, brazilian savanah, and in the last decades the most productive area for farms in brazil is cerrado. i will not be surprised if they start to disapear dramatically.

    It's called the Guaráh Wolf and lives only at the Cerrado ecossistem in Brazil (a bioma in Minas Gerais and Goias states) and eats fruits and insects.

    This is of of those moments when nature just says _"fuck it"_ and just creates something bizarre. In this case, a creation that is part deer, part wolf, poops apples for ants to spread the seed and feed the colony and pee weed, but howls like a Lion-dog, but mates in April to June as July is just far too hot.
