How To Fix RV Slide Issues! The Floor Fell Out! Fulltime RV Living! RV Life!

  • Recently, we accidentally stepped on our slide out when it was in the retracted position, causing the floor to separate from the wall. We have been managing this issue, until we could get to the Memphis area, where we have a trusted RV technician, who will help us to get it fixed.
    After about eight moves, we noticed that both slide skis were also damaged, so we have those parts delivered to our campground, ready for the technician to replace. Chris of Town & Country Mobile RV does a great job explaining how the damage occurred and gives a step-by-step review of how he makes the necessary repairs. If you’ve never turned your needle valves to make one slide stay retracted, you’ll want to watch, as Kevin shows how that process is done.
    If you’d like to have repairs made by Chris or any of the other qualified technicians we used, please contact:
    Town & Country Mobile RV in Olive Branch, MS at (662) 890-1623

    Part of the problem is when they use dry wall screws to hold it together. Dry wall screws are not for structure they tend to break if you use them that way. Glad you found a tech that does the best he can and does a great job for you. Hope you all stay safe and healthy.

    • @PavingNewPaths
      @PavingNewPaths  Před rokem +1

      Well technically they are not there for structure! Thats why they say never to step on your slides when they are in as the walls are holding the floor up! In the out position the floor is holding the walls up so it is not an issue! It my fault for stepping on it while it was in!

We step in and out of the slide all the time, without any issues. However, the rollers do leave an indentation in the vinyl flooring, so that's a negative.

    • @PavingNewPaths

    Quick tips, if your floor drop again keep in mind addind wood in your aluminum tubing, the 3'' screws that you add will probably get loose again they are holding by 1/16 at the bottom of the tube and 1/16 at the top of the tube, it is not like you screw in a peace of 1'' 1/2 of wood in you aluminum framing slide. When you do that you take off the caping around your slide inside and you will see you aluminum tubing at the bottom of your slide.

      Our kitchen and bedroom slide have rollers! But our main living room slide is flush floor, when it comes in it hits a ramp and goes up above the RV floor! Honestly ours always cracks not from in and out movements but at the position the slide ski is at in the in position! The entire slide is being held up when traveling by only two points, and at those two points is where they start to crack! Once you have a crack it only gets worse woth each move!

    I noticed the tear in your door side slide wiper right where the slide ski is. Any plans to replace that?

    • @PavingNewPaths
      @PavingNewPaths  Před rokem +4

      It has been like that since we picked it up! One of the screws in the trim piece backed out and tore it! I don't plan on doing anything about it right now as that wiper seal is not what seals the room when the slide is out it is the bubble seal! That seal only comes into play when the slide is in and the wiper to me serves no real function if the bubble seal is doing it's job!

    Seems to me (ie: Overkill-Mark), you could mix up slow set epoxy, inject it into the face of the MDF floor and compress overnight. This would help prevent it from further falling apart (allot how they address this issue in boats). Also, I thought this was the ski you replaced recently? Why did it fail so quick? Anyway, thanks for the great videos, I learn something new every day. Maybe see you on the road, we are launching in a month or so from South Central Texas.

    • @PavingNewPaths
      @PavingNewPaths  Před rokem +2

      The problem was caused recently on our trip to big bend, but this ski had never been replaced! The last time we worked on the other ski was 18 months ago with the same tech! It doesn't wear so much from going in and out! The crack always starts at the point where the slide ski is supporting the slide in the in position during travel! Once it cracks the in and out movement makes it worse very quickly!

  • @robertosgood961
    @robertosgood961 Před rokem +2

    I'll add T&C to my rv travel binder. Is there a way to inspect the slide ski's ourselves for cracking or excessive wear? Will we see anything or is the cracking under the trim cover?

    • @PavingNewPaths
      @PavingNewPaths  Před rokem +2

      The cracking will start to occur on the radius of the slide ski when it makes thr turn from the wall to the floor! Ours have always started to crack where the slide ski is supporting the slide in the travel position! Once it starts to crack it will get bad really quickly with every move until you fix it!

    • @PavingNewPaths

      They don't really wear out! They start to crack and then very quickly after they crack they destroy themselves! He only repaired the one that was cracked the first time around!

  • @markseamans4682
    @markseamans4682 Před rokem +2

    Also, if the wood was soft in that area, the pressure on the underside would cause the ski to wear more. Ok. I'll shut up now. haha.

    • @PavingNewPaths
      @PavingNewPaths  Před rokem +1

      Its more of the slide is being supported on the bottom by only a small ledge and it is hard on the slide ski during travel!

    • @PavingNewPaths
      @PavingNewPaths  Před rokem +1

      We have done some reading on them but I have not gotten any confirmed positive feedback that they will stop the issues forever, just that some people have switched to them, but none have had them long enough to say if they will last any longer than the plastic ski's! Have you switched? If so how long have you had them on?

      @@PavingNewPaths We have them on our bedroom slide (had to replace the floor in that slide...our rv has no slide skis at all) and on our kitchen slide out. Less than a year on both so we have no concrete proof they are any better.

    • @PavingNewPaths
      @PavingNewPaths  Před rokem +2
