    • @PavingNewPaths
      @PavingNewPaths  Pƙed 2 lety +5

      In this case It was installed incorrectly and probably would have been just fine if I never touched it! However it was coming unglued on the bottom, so my fixing it actually made it crack and break because it was installed improperly! These RV'S nowdays are mass produced by hand so your going to have issues, most are minor. If you don't want issues don't get an RV they all will have a problem if you use them!

      Unfortunately the sad fact is pretty much all RVs are built like crap.. doesn't matter if you bought an older used one for $1,000 or brand new one straight from the factory for $150,000, it's built like garbage. It's the only way they can sort of somewhat keep the cost down and keep it lightweight enough that you can actually tow it.

      @PavingNewPaths  Pƙed 2 lety +5

      @@mikeschwab1943 We have found this to be true, no matter how much you spend there is going to be problems with an RV! This is why we found the one we loved and bought used and put the savings away for taking care of issues like this!

      @TJ-di1lb Pƙed rokem +3

      I'm a 30 year master RV technician and RV owner for over 35 years (around 15 year full time) . RVs are very far from maintenance and repair free doesn't matter brand, price, new used or type. . I wish RV salespeople would tell their customers that. Everyone that owns one needs to know at the very minimum basic repair skills You always have things to repair on one. They have gotten much worse since the pandemic. Stay away from any lightweight or ultralight model or lower priced entry level series. the heavier it is the better its built in general. Stay away from anything with a a Lippert frame (lci) built in the last 8 years or so. Do not make the huge mistake of jumping into full timing with no RV experience. you need at least 3 to 5 years of owning and using a RV recreationaly before going full time to gain experience and learn basic repair skills. Short cuts cause very expensive mistakes.

    Water intrusion can take weird paths sometimes. Our 2020 had such an issue we didn't know about until we were using it at an RV park in heavy rain. We were in Florida; a big day-long storm came through and just by chance we moved the sofa to get something that fell behind it. I stepped onto wet carpet. >=( WHAT?!
    Totally unexpected because zero water was coming through the top of the slide, through the corners, or window frame. We dried the carpet. At a later date a short rain came through, and nothing happened. Then a little bit later a big one came through again, and boom the carpet's wet. The water was coming down the one side of the slide where the carpet was wet, and basically wicking off some flexible plastic barrier material and somehow getting into/onto the floor of the slide. The water flowed down before wicking UP to get into the trailer. Surface tension makes water do crazy things.

    • @PavingNewPaths
      @PavingNewPaths  Pƙed 2 lety +5

      We never had any water problems with this issue! I was worried that if I did not fix it I would eventually have water intrusion on the exposed surfaces where the slide ski was damaged!

    the slide ski should have been tucked up under the side wall. really sucky the way he done it. I'm installing slide skis on my Montana. however, as of now I run a piece of duct tape right below the trim screws and let it hang. water will run off the tape that's hanging and never touch the slide floor. I may just keep doing what I'm doing and changing it each time. not sure yet. but I sure dont want them mounted like that. what a disaster.

      That last piece of trim also has two layers of butyl putty it is going through and is securing into wood! The question you should be asking is not why didn't they use ss screws, it should be why did they use foam, instead of the putty to secure the piece in the first place! The Tech also explained that piece is there just to cover a seam and has no structural value!
