    I started kettlebells last year at 4 kg and am glad I did. Nearly all of the online guides suggested that men start at 12 or 16 kg, but when I tried those weights I felt that I could easily injure myself on swinging moves. So I started slow and light and gradually, over months, increased the weight. I’m up to 10 kg max now, and I’m likely to stay there for quite a while. (I should mention that I’m sixty-five. I’m in good shape overall, but age is age.)

      I appreciate you sharing this as well. I'm 60, and knew right away I would be asking for trouble with a standard 'starting' weight for men. So I bought a cheap 10 lb one, but this brand looks vastly superior. I'm totally cool starting with the 4 or 6 kg. Get the form right first, always!

    With almost two years of going in the wrong direction with a bunch of bad instruction: the 4kg kettlebell is perfect to really get the patterns fixed. I kept trying to repattern with something a little heavier but I kept being sloppy around my grip. I wish I would have had a nice little kettlebell like the one you just unpackaged because the one I had was super odd sized rather than close to competition sized.
    Anytime you're trying a new movement or coming back with a tweaked muscle 4 kg will keep you honest about the good bad and ugly about your movement but won't twist you up when you're trying to move too much weight overhead. Really love your channel

    Thanks for the review and thanks for noticing the packaging! We took a lot of care to make the packaging recyclable and able to be flat packed as well as protect the kb in transit.
    I love what you said about starting with a lighter weight. A lot of people quit training early because they get pressured into using a weight that's too heavy.

    I bought a 4kg competition KB recently not to use as a weight, but just as a sort of prop for working on TGU basics without worrying about dropping it on my face. I do like that design though, similar to ones that have flattened sections, because I'm still struggling with pain from the pressure on my arms, even with proper grip.

    @SImonDeLikaeble Před rokem +1

    They look so cool. I did not expect them to be hollow. The grip idea is excellent.
    As ever, the problem in living on an island off Europe is that shipping will likely cost more than the kettlebell. Not much Pro Kettlebell can do about that!

      @saoc8800 Před rokem

      @@MarkWildman 2k?… ouch! I don’t know what to do with all the crappy vinyl ones I bought when I was starting. Dump won’t take them. Other than flogging them as novelty doorstops on Etsy or somewhere, I’ve no idea how to get rid of them. I do have a colossal cumbersome one that functions beautifully to weigh down the outdoor bin lid, but generally a bad kettlebell is just a total los, and the ones for smaller framed people usually tend to be brutal. Flat-sided ones targeted at women are only any use if your training to carry a really heavy handbag

    • @MarkWildman
      @MarkWildman  Před rokem +3

      No. If the shape is crashing into your hand, your snatch technique needs work. These are designed by completion snatch guys. They are basically the equivalent of a super car for competition kettlebell lifting. Most comfortable things I’ve ever ever ever used

      @pulltaboo Před rokem +1

      @@MarkWildman My thoughts exactly, BUT… These are readily available in many retail stores, extremely cheap ($100-120 on a good day), and a quick dial lets you do drop sets or quickly change weight for any other reason. It would've been lovely if you could take one for a spin and make a video criticizing the design. Because it's good, but far from perfect… hopefully Bowflex will listen to you.

    I really did not like the “feedback points” on these KBs.
    I was going to grind them down, but, eventually, I had to admit that they are a useful discipline.
    You have to wonder why this form was not adopted earlier, maybe it is a question of culture.
    I have one KB from Tacfit ? that started down this path, but as far as I know, only KB Pro has this geometry to “encourage” good form.

    • @ProKettlebellWorkouts
      @ProKettlebellWorkouts Před rokem +5

      I'm relatively certain that it hasn't been done because it was really hard even with CAD and 3d printing to get the geometry right. We were sort of blessed in a way when Covid shut down our gym and we HAD to figure this out or starve. We probably went through 30 different prototypes before we finally got it right. From my experience most kettlebell manufacturers are just trying to turn a buck and not super passionate about the end product.

    Did you buy these kettlebells? Also, do you consider those slabs of metal listing the weights as a sort of forearm punisher, for missed lifts? I see these types of reviews, and always want to ask, if you were starting from scratch, in buying competition kettlebells, would you go with these cast iron Pro Kettlebells, over a steel version such as is available via Kettlebell Kings, or Kettlebells USA?
