Postwar Lionel Train Layout Update! May 2023

- This is the May layout update for my Postwar style Lionel train layout. Tho layout includes lots of prewar and postwar Lionel accessories, and I’m always trying to improve this layout!
I have lots of areas to work on, on this layout, so let me know if you have any good ideas!

Suggestion: Where your 455 Oil Derrick is, I would add the new Lionel Oil Field and a couple of the American Flyer bubbling 773 Oil Derricks to make and oil field. Nice PW style layout!
Loved the music. I love Glen Miller music. Trains are super nice. It’s fun to just add as you go. No special plan just do want fits. Thanks for sharing your layout. I enjoyed.
Very nice smaller layout and a great choice of music.
Rail track ties I use cut up popsicle sticks that I wood stained. A bit of hot glue holds them in place. To avoid eating millions of popsicles I understand sticks can be purchased in volume intended for crafts.

I don't know what I'm more jealous of, the layout or all the room you've got to put one in!
A small trolley station behind that Plasticville school wouldn't be a bad idea. In the old days, in northern New Jersey where I'm from, it wasn't unusual for high school kids to take the trolley to school, not every town was big enough for a high school of its own.
The other open spaces? Maybe a train yard in one (it wouldn't have to be functional, just hold cars and look good) and an industrial section in the other?

Personally I love overhead cranes so I’d suggest a yard area with maybe a small shopping dock on the permitter edge of the layout.
Oh, for a full basement!! Great layout! Hint: Passenger cars & station in unused area??

Great layout. The area with the tunnel, would look good with a yard or turn table. I wish I had the room you have. My layout is 5 x 10. I hope to expand to my max of 6 x 12.

Me and grandson spend a lot of time in our garage and was wanting to start us a nice track. Any suggestions where to start as far as equipment. We want to make sure we do it right the first time.
Well, it depends on what you want to accomplish, if you want to go for affordability, I recommend tubular Lionel or K line track with a bunch of used Lionel or K line trains. That would provide a good starting point for anyone getting into the hobby. However, these cheap/used items could have some issues, and may require some maintenance. If you want to go the more expensive route, you can buy more expensive and newer higher end track and equipment. Regardless of which route you choose I will tell you to do whatever you want and don’t let long time hobbyists criticize your choices! I would love to hear about your journey in the hobby and hope you enjoy!
Well done! Is the Bascule bridge controlled automatically or do you time the rising and lowering? My suggestion for the open areas is to fill it with more trains.😀
The bascule bridge is controlled by a switch next to the main Transformer, I think that filling the unused area with more trains is a good idea!
I had a trolley like that once too long time ago would you be interested in a free tunnel it's a hard plastic one I'm just trying to think how I could get it to you it's a beautiful tunnel you got the styrofoam on but I got a hard plastic one I figured you could put it right after your Bridge area I'm in a wheelchair so it would be really hard to get to the post office and see what it cost to ship it to you but if you might be interested let me know and we can figure something out I just don't want to see it go to waste or you know my lost my ability to walk but I still love Lionel trains but those days are over for me so what's the sharp-looking tunnel that I have you'd like it we'll talk later and maybe I can see how they get it sent to you I'll see if I can get a picture of it and send it to you maybe let me know if you're interested
Well, if you have seen some of my recent videos, I have redesigned my layout, this one I’m not sure if I will or if I won’t have a tunnel, so I don’t really think I want it, thanks for the offer!
