I'd say the massacre is a dark spot in french history, and not in the Tirailleurs history
Both I'll said.
French history is almost nothing but dark spans.
@@DxAxMxD World History tho, History is bloody and violent.
The French relied on huge amounts of troops from its colonies throughout its empire. These men fought and died to liberate France, and those who returned home thought that a graceful France would improve the conditions under which they lived in the colonies, which were forced labour or very menial wages, minimal human rights, poverty, apartheid - like systems in some places, etc. and many began speaking out and clamoring for better treatment.
France's response was to wage war on its colonies in a manner reminiscent of German atrocities: mass detentions, crackdowns, raids and destruction of town and villages, ariel bombings, mass rape, mass murder, summary executions and other war crimes etc. France killed millions in the colonies that helped liberate it. Especially hard hit were Senegal, Ivory Coast, Algeria, Syria, Madagascar, Indochina (Vietnam).
@@curtisthomas2670 From what I've read a substantial amount of the SS ended up in the Foreign Legion post war. I don't know how true that is but assuming it is. That makes such atrocities make alot of sense.

The massacre was not a dark spot in the history of "Senegalese Tiralleurs" -- but on France. That's not a "tragic" incident, but an abomination, and a war crime against allies who were essential to the allied victory and liberation.
I'm proud to count "Anciens Combattants" in Africa among my friends and mentors during my time in West and Central Africa. Mamadou Kahnsaye was a fighter to the end. In his 60s or 70s, there was a corrupt local governmental official who was stealing the pensions of veterans. Sergeant Kahnsaye went to the regional capital, faced down the thief, and returned home with everything he had due. I met a comrade of Kanhsaye, who was from Malie, in a northern Cameroun village in 1988 - they hadn't seen each other since '44 but reconnected through the visitor. I carried greetings and tidings from Cameroun back to Sergeant Kahnsaye, who was like an adopted Grand-Pere, in Bandiagara. Respect, gratitude, appreciation, awe.
You tell this better than the actual war story in battlefield
03:03:
Lebel Berthier? Those are two different rifles, and the ones at 03:02 were, if I'm not mistaken, Berthier 1907 or 1907/1915 (unextended magazine) and Berthier 1907/1915 M1916 (magazine extended to have five cartridges instead of only two).
COD WW2 didnt offered this Millatary Company but Battlefield V offered it
Senegalese Tiralleurs: Fought for their colonial overlords and got disrespected.
Viet Minh: Fought for themselves and against their colonial overlords and got everything.
*The Senegalese Tirailleurs,Gurka and The Herlem Hellfighters were soldiers that fought alongside the Allies even though they were secretly or post-war mistreated*
Fun fact some Senegalese tirailleurs (les tirailleurs sénégalais du Tchad) were in Africa and a won an incredible battle against the Italians at koufra, after this a part of the regiment went to fight in France and one part stayed and the other part went to France and renamed themselves the RMT (regiment de marche du Tchad) and later went on to be the first regiment to enter Paris.
take a drink anytime he says a variant of Senegalese Tirailleurs; in honor of the fallen french soldiers.
Take a shot every time you hear tirailleurs
Not just Senegalese,Moroccans and Algerians too, they played a Key Role in the WW2 European Battlefields, like Monte Casino, Stuttgart,Munich and Austria too
senegalese were larger and more successful
Good vid
