The Blue Division was the Spanish volunteer unit of the German Army.
Like the Russians they would seldom take prisoners. This gave rise for Munoz-Grandes to call them his “ Bridegrooms of Death “ and even their battle cry was “ Viva la Muerte “ or “ Long Live Death “.

But Spanish soldiers didn't fight communism because in the war of ideas the only casualties are people. Spanish assisted in the Siege of Leningrad, basically trying to starve its citizens to death. Not to mention Franco's policy to assist Germans in executing minorities

The grandfather of my wife was a "Leigionario" in the civil war, and he was one of the volunteers in the division. He was captured and come back in 1953. Details:
    1) The hymn of the Spanish "legionarios" is "I am the boyfriend of the dead" and “Viva la Muerte“ or "Cierra España" is their war cry.
    2) In the Krasny Bor battle 5900 Spanish troops stop the attack of 38,000 Russians. They lost around 3500 men, but they kill more than 1/3 of the enemy troops and keep their positions.
    3) The Spanish troops also fight on France as members of the "resistance" and the ninth company that liberated Paris was Spanish. Also, few volunteers fight by the Russians and the English make a whole division by Spaniards...
