      @@FirefighterKWann One of the fire departments where I grew up used to have a 3t22 siren that did a hi-lo attack signal, it was brilliant. The closest I could get to that on CZcams now is Nick Oakman's siren synths. About 10 years ago they replaced that siren with a Sentry 7v8. I do miss the 3t22, its sound carried through the area as much as the FS STH-10 from the other fire house in the area. We even had a fire house nearby that used a Diaphone fire horn that would do the 2-2-2 signal.

    This sirens dampers are most likely working fine. If you listen to the video recorded in February, you can hear that both dampers work and are not leaking however the camera does not pick up the low tone a few times. The siren only sounds weird because he filmed underneath it. As you know, when you film underneath an XT22 the low tone overpowers the high tone because it is the closer tone to you. In this video he starts out filming close but not necessarily underneath the siren. When he is in this position, both the high and low tone sound of equal volume. Then, as he moves to underneath the siren the low tone becomes louder than the high tone an overpowers it. Although very faint you can still hear the high tone. If the top damper were stuck you would not hear the high tone at all, not even faintly. Depending on where you film and XT22 and what camera you use can dramatically change how it sounds, especially if it sounds Hi-Lo. This video was not recorded with necessarily the right video camera or in the best position and the audio reflects that.

    • @FirefighterKWann
      @FirefighterKWann  Před 3 lety

      Joethaboss66 truth I had my IPhone only at the time, when we called county to trip the tone to activate the siren I ran outside and grabbed it from the angle I did.
      I also noticed as you said the videos are different to where I video them apart.
      Even in the February video I don’t hear the release on the siren when I powers up. In the March video it’s clearly heard.
      Depends I guess where I was standing for everything and honestly never gave that a thought.

      @@FirefighterKWann I'm not sure what you mean by release on the siren but if your referring to the giant clank then that is one of the dampers shutting as the flasher starts. • @Joethaboss66
      @Joethaboss66 Před 3 lety

      Some air will get through the dampers. They are not designed to be perfectly airtight. When the damper is shut it is just metal against metal. In addition, air can get in between the damper and the intake tube because the damper is not the same diameter as the intake tube. So in a way the damper is always leaking. In addition, that warble and undertone are not exclusive to when the bottom damper is closed. That warble and undertone are present in some form in most videos of 3T22's doing Hi-Lo.
      Here are some examples of the warble/undertone:

      It is in the works in the next two weeks to go up to it, and see whats up, we wont be taking it down of course, it costs way to much money to bring a crane in, and we already put out 11,000 on it.
      That siren we are so fortunate in our town to have citizens that wanted that back up, and in fact demanded it stay up.
