I am fascinated by her beauty, her intelligence, her open-ness and the closed off stance at points in the conversation ...
I think she's wonderful, and I loved hearing parts of her life story. I'm hoping for a second episode with her based on her research and work.
I am absolutely enamored and a bit smitten with Maya. What a warm, articulate, and accomplished intellectual. Solid podcast Rich.
Look at your dapper, button-up white shirt, Rich! You look fabulous for your truly fabulous guest! What a delightful conversation, and a joy you both are to behold.

Dr. Maya Shankar has a natural charisma. Not sure if one commentator was serious (or joking) that this âepisode was boring, manâ? I found it incredibly interesting and loved the back and forth between her and Rich Roll. Thank you for a great podcast.đâ€ïžđ
Dr Shankar has a natural charisma
Love her. So smart, kind, and beautiful. People like her really make this world better
I can't imagine what it would be like to have such supportive and encouraging parents.
Maybe thatâs better. Some people do not flourish in environment like that.
@@AnnaSttAzzia I Had supportive, very supportive and encouraging parents and it was awful. Too encouraging and too supportive. My Mom was always telling me things, that actually, were not going to help me, later in life. I ended up with Complex pstd.
@@denisealley9822 Yeah I completely understand. I would literally be a spoiled brat if I had more supportive and encouraging parents. I would never imagine myself being in such an environment and growing up accountable for my action. Sorry to hear that you've gone through something like that, but at the same time I truly believe there is a some kind of purpose of you having to go through it. Wishing you all the best luck and hope you get well.
I used to be an athlete. From the age of 5 till the age of 22 I pursued the dream of going to the Olympics one day. Since I stopped pursuing that dream (for diverse reasons), I've been struggling with finding a new identity. I've been making a lot of progress, but from experience I can say that its difficult and extremely painful at some moments in time. This podcast was awesome. Thanks Rich
I also feel that for almost everyone, what we really care about, in everything that we do, is human connection.
The fact that you can engage with something and give it 100% tells me thatâs youâll thrive in life. Itâs just finding something else that thrills and engages you. Wishing you the very best â€ïž
A wonderful guest, truly inspiring interview
She had an incredible mother and her optimistic personality is indeed infectious.
Her sentiment about the best musicians being the most emotive - that just hit me right in the feels as I was watching Hozier sing The Parting Glass - it's so true that with music it's not about how technically good you are - it's about how well you can convey emotion to your audience đ
Great podcat! Aside from being super interesting, what a beautiful human being she is.
Good to hear about aligning around feelings rather than facts.
I enjoyed learning about Maya, and will check out her podcast.
Dr Maya Shankar could be an amazing independent educator on very profound changes that can be made in professional or personal life, for sure backing her research as well as knowledge. It would be incredible to see more of her wisdom being implemented in lives that need it.
Also can we start a petition for her father to share his wisdom? I would love to listen to his lectures.
I enjoyed this conversation very much! Grateful to be introduced to her -will check out her podcast. And as always, Rich Roll simultaneously calms and inspires me. I always learn something useful. Thanksâïžđ±
This podcast and the prophets just keep getting better and better. Thank you, Rich and Maya!
every part of this conversation resonated with me. I'm also glad that some insights were shared especially re: policymaking. I relate so much to her journey of fighting your way towards an opportunity, knocking on endless doors going nowhere, but gathering enough resilience to do it again and again. Even her stories towards the end about her sharing a very personal fertility journey were so impactful. I've found some personal courage to carry on from this discussion. Thanks for hosting and facilitating this great episode, Rich.
I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation, You both have such a brilliant way of expressing yourselves. Simple grateful.
Maya is wonderful, such a humble human being who has accomplished a great deal. Amazing episode.
So glad I accidently came on this today. My granddaughter whose college soccer career may be ending as a junior because of concussions. Soccer has been her life since she was 4 and has broken many school records. She needs to know there is âlifeâ after what you self identify with. Thank you!
This is such a great conversation! So timely and relatable â€ïž
Thanks for putting this out in the world.
Loved loved loved this episode!!! I am definitely going to check out her podcast!
What an episode seriously, i felt like i can listen to them talking for as much as they could talk, i cant imagine that i easily enjoyed and listened to this whole episode in one sitting.. Great episode, amazing guest and so genuine and simple person with that fancy Bio.. I recently came across this Rich Roll Podcast channel and am already hooked, great job honestly and keep up the amazing work you're doing..
This was incredible. What an amazing speaker Maya is - I felt so inspired!!! Loved, loved this episode.
Amazing interview. Thank you.
Great episode, so inspiring , thank you !
Loved hearing this
Winners are not those who never fail but those who never quit.
no, winners are the ones who are happy. No matter if they quit , if they won or lost . Those who find their own PERSONAL way to happiness ( or at least to peace).
I found the interview mesmerizing.
i felt that Maya was so real and loved the conversation and how she went from A to B and was totally honest
Food for thought.
So Nice, She's absolutely genius!
wonderful
Maya: Namaste!
Please interview Dr. William Makkis if you want to impress me. And no, there is nothing wrong with me for not being impressed by titles. I appreciate solid KNOWLEDGE.
Opinios and belief systems are awesome.
Scientists? Who's funding their studies? Do they have ties to Big Pharma and the other monies like Obummer is?
Much peace, love and light to us all!
Yes I can do everything in my life đ
Very nice talk.
Did you see a more comprehensive practitioner like Andrew Weil for your inflammation and injuries?
This was an extremely enjoyable podcast.
She says sheâd benefit from having a more malleable sense of self but sheâs done seemingly perfect anyway đ Because thereâs a lot more at play like IQ, oneâs family and location of birth, looks, diplomatic sensibility etc. Factors that served her well!
Interesting topic but I personally can relate more to guests whoâve had to navigate major obstacles. Yeah, thatâs probably my issue to work out đ
"Identity Foreclosure" LMAO......that one got me good
The opening statement of the show is the core of Bhagavad gita.
In thinking about what a behavioural scientist can bring to a government office (with school lunches being the example used by Dr Laurie Santos), I was wondering if this makes Dr Maya Shankar a socialist, but I instantly recognised that her passion for human interaction and positive outcomes makes her a humanist; and perhaps that is what socialism actually is? And would the rebranding of âsocialistâ policy as âhumanistâ policy prevent the ongoing confusion between humane intervention during periods of economic fluctuation (ie. socialism) and the extinction of individual freedom/autonomy that results from the imposition of an anti-capitalist regime (ie. Communism)?
In thinking about the concept of student/mentor, Iâm happy to say that my mentor is a house-painter; my best mate Ado- so there is some personal disclosure that might give some perspective to any interpretation/response to the questions that I have posed in this comment.
I''d love to hear Maya interview an actual mindfulness practitioner, especially a leading teacher, ratherthan perceive mindfulness practice through the veil of others who seem to be misunderstanding it. Sharon Salzburg for instance would be an interesting one, or Jon Kabat Zinn.
Sharon has been on the podcast www.richroll.com/podcast/sharon-salzberg/

can you please give one of ur degrees to me? pls?
When you can make casual references to meeting POTUS in 'The Oval' you know you have achieved something.
Rich: don't forget how beautiful she is!
Great achievements..but definitely the institution helped a lot âŠtime to give back to society as well..
Iâm sure I donât have to say all this to you maya..
wow...you mean if I was born with every advantage I can succeed too???
At some point mindfulness is the path. You realize looking at your mind and thoughts (they are not real) allows you to find peace and joy. Sorry this is all noise to me.
Thanks.A lot of I ,a lot of personal story zip to 1.hour no science content about cognitive change.Too much ego.wait and see.
I didnât get much out of this one :/
Dominos? Cmon now. Itâs common sense.
No mention of the hundreds of thousands killed in the 8 (or was it 9?) foreign USA invasions during the Obama administration; just that he was so very charming. I bet many millions around the world beg to differ, the Yemenites in particular.
Didn't Maya have any suggestion as to how to avoid these wars?
Oh but to them he was a God. He didn't do shit about the water but but Trump
She's worked for some Questionable Organizations!!!??? White House, Google etc... Behavior Specialist Huh...
Wow the title is really misleading. A waste of time. Too much for too little.
so she has all those diplomas and super resume but doesn't know how much destructive & cruel the animal farming industry is? damn.
I'm over an hour in and I haven't really learned anything value to me. I'm not a woman of color whose father teaches at Yale so you know this story is great for her and I love that she's a wonderful person but and hopefully it inspires a bunch of other young women of color or whatever but it doesn't do me any good really I'd love to hear some little kernels of knowledge about how our brain works because that was the the title of the video. The title didn't say hey this is a biography about some chick
What about her and her accomplishments hurts your feelings, egos or sense of self? You sound hurt.
Iâm a woman of color and learn a lot from random white dudes because we are human beings and share elements of a human experience.
@@omowhanre nice racism
@Alex H đ I canât with you people. We have to sit and listen to unrealtable mediocre white experiences night and day and yâall canât even see value in ANYTHING that doesnât burn in the sun. I truly am no longer surprised, itâs almost funny. Sorry, but it is. Iâll have to share with my friend over lunch
@@daniel-8340 sure
@Alex H How was this title misleading? Did you make an assumption as to what would be covered? Did you have a preconceived expectation?
5 minutes of listening to sadguru would have given me more wisdom.
You mean the Sadguru the charlatan who killed his wife?
@@noornoornoor23 No your father.
something fishy going on with isaac perlman... reminds me of bill cosby
Rich, honestly man, of course she is a super achiever and all, ...but the episode is boring, man
And her boss had no plan No Agenda no roadmap for what she was supposed to accomplish or how to get there
Yeap
This women is really hot.
Pretty disappointing - not any useful info for individuals who take human change seriously. Love most of your pod cast- but not this one .
1 hour and 15 minutes in and nothing of real value for me. Got to go
Nobody cares.
This is your second comment about not finding it valuable. May not be valuable for you but will be for others. Not all episodes needs to speak for everyone. Grab a drink and chill!
2hrs of listening and its full useless. nothing for me to learn.
Exactly
Wasted so much time on this one before I realised there is nothing to learn here. The title is misleading. It's just her privileged life story, no offence, she is a great person, but that is of no relevance to me whatsoever. Should be titled "life story"
Obvious self confidence issues.
Shame she had to talk so much over Rich. It really started to get on my nerves the longer the podcast went on.
Even being condescending to him for being "such a health nut". Not a good move Maya.
Fwiw - that was actually a self-effacing comment. đ I wish I were a health nut (but don't have the discipline) but really admire those who are!
i thought Rich was talking over her a lot, but he does that to a lot of guests
I bet you voted for Biden. If I were rich I would ask her what does she think of Biden and his behavior neuroscientist
Manley please talk about yourself - no reason to judge or make assumptions about other people!
Chill on the politics my dude.
Omg its your 4th comment! You sound like you have a personal issue with her. Please chill and stop commenting your negativity.
Actually, 8 negative comments from Mr. Nelson... enough already, dude, move on!
just do it. nike. microvictories. 1% everyday. 1 puhsup is 365 per year. now imagine 100 per day.. :P doing 1 million puhsup is easy.
Beautifully đ shared language and encouragement â€ïž. With my slight change of plans, facing the change, I find it difficult to move forward day to day.
