      Vlad Si Altele actually not really, that why it take so long for the first phase.... architect, mechanical engineering, companion were not everywhere in « Europe » at the time. Paid for their knowledge and compétences at this time they were, maybe not the same today of course but what you said is a pretty inaccurate short view and statement. I don’t think the title is ironic. Although the fire destroyed much of the roof and the spire which is unfortunate, the building itself still stands. The fact that the church was able to withstand the fire in almost perfect condition, the fact that it surpassed WWI, WWII, the revolutions in France, and has lived through many impactful historical events - for me, the Notre-Dame is the epitome of “standing the test of time”.

I've visited an old temple called Angkor Wat in Cambodia and when I went there, workers were doing restoration work on that Temple as well. Pretty sad that here in America, we can barely take care of things that are barely over 100 years old yet these old buildings in other countries are centuries years old and they're still being taken care of

    My heart goes out to the people of France over this awful fire, Notre Dame is a UNESCO Word Heritage Site. It is so amazing to me the beauty that was created during that period 850 years ago with no modern equipment or tools. I'm building a bridge now but I wander what it looked like then, how long it took and how many people were involved. I think most people can't fathom the importance of Notre Dame. Thankfully the entire structure didn't crumble to the ground. The French are a resilient people and will rebuild and look back and say you see that black mark....the fire of 2019. Les français sont incroyables. Nous t'aimons. Relève notre dame de paris.

  • @J.Cameron.Stuart.Adams.

    So tragic seeing this breathtaking, icon destroyed. The sheer scale of the treasures lost is most heart wrenching. Before the fire is out it's easy to see many of the stone walls will need to be torn down and rebuilt because time has not been kind to the stone itself. The soft stone was saturated with moisture from the elements. The heat from the fire is causing the stone to explode as the moisture expands rapidly. Before the night is over walls may fall without the support if the roof keeping them from falling inward.
    Luckily the fire crews have, at this point kept the fire from destroying the bell towers. There is fire and water damage to the towers. However they've been saved from total destruction. We may still hear some of the bells ring Easter Sunday. It will be a blessing if the bells toll Sunday.
    Thankfully many priceless treasures were saved thanks to the help of hundreds of first responders, the faithful, tourists, and passersby running in and out of the building as fire raged above them.
    As of now 11:30PM local time the fire is close to be contained. Fire crews are in the towers tending to hot spots and stopping flying embers from catching the timbers alight.
    My heart goes out to all, like me, whom cherish Notre Dame not just as a religious icon, but as a stunning example of seemingly impossible architecture shrouded in the rich history of France and the world beyond. Let's us all do what we can to rebuild this iconic beacon of Paris for future generations to admire and learn the role Notre Dame has played in over 850 years of history. The mighty can fall. The people can help the mighty rise up once more.
    Cheers!

      Yeah, if the foundation and walls are still standing they could still rebuild, restore and renovate the place, things like this happens in the past to old building and get rebuild from what remains of them but this needs some extensive restoration and some parts needs to be remade from scratch, so yeah

If people truly care about these monuments, there should be fundraisers for every monument that needs repair. FOR YEARS they talked about Notre Dame’s structural problems but no one cared

    It looks like very little damage was done to the inside of the cathedral....The outer timber roof structure burned, and there is only one hole that came through the inner roof and landed in the sanctuary... im pretty sure that was extinguished as soon as it hit the ground by fireman waiting below. This damage is nothing compared to Windsor Castle...

      @pierre5077 Před 5 lety

      @@blafuckyou Beautiful answer! It is rare to read English or American commentaries on this subject with such lucidity.What you say is so obvious. In addition, the construction of the Abbey of Wesminster is little later than that of Notre Dame. Before this one there was the St Stephen's church and there had always been a place of worship since the Romans on the site of the Notre Dame church. In the crypt and on the facade there are vestiges of the primitive churches.
      Many French cities have also suffered during the
      wars. During the 1st World War entire towns were destroyed. There are ghost villages.
      and also during the second world war, especially by Allied bombing. There are cities that have been completely rebuilt.
      There are indecent comments, and I am sorry.
