That beanbag pattern is ours. We gave the pattern to Nigel and Jo. Hope you enjoy as much as we do. At sea when it's bumpy there is nothing more comfy than those beanbags. We first made those beanbags more than 25 years ago. Even our dog has a smaller version
No, that beanbag pattern belongs to Globcorp.
I made a bean bag a couple of years ago, and pretty soon I opened it up and poured all the inside into an inner bag and put a zipper on the outer bag. that way I could shuck the outside in the washing machine every now and then. You could also have two outsides and change to a dry outer bag after a pouring.
I did the same I used a nylon material. An zipper ... Not bad for a 1st go... I had a "leather" bean bag as a kid . Used to jump on it .. it was a static filled winter day.. when POP 💥lil beans stuck to everything.. blew up Mum's vacuum cuz of them...😂🤣😂🤣...made a mess found beans for years after .....lol!!! Good times✌🏼💗😊
Agreed, always have an inner bag + outer bag. Makes cleaning a lot easier and less risk of bean spilling if a seam breaks
@@kyoni6098 you mean "when", not "if". :) #beentherevacuumedthat
Yes, ours have an inner liner for the same reason🙂
Galicia is one of the places with magic in Spain, for its landscapes, good people and gastronomy above all.
Shhhh.......don't tell everyone! The last thing it needs is hordes of visitors.
@@MikeAG333 jajaja! Sorry! It's true!
Yeah!!!
Was looking for a wind vane guide. Now, knowing you from all the refit projects, I cannot wait for the video with the full technical analysis and detailed installation guide! 👍👌
Thanks for another great video. Your boat is beautiful!
You are just an awesome couple sharing a little bit of your life with your viewers. Thank you.
Great video
Videos are always great to watch thanks for sharing
Galicia, I suggest Gal-a-sea-a. I like the bean bags, though personally, I would have sewn in a zip at the opening, folding the tag closed with a couple of hand stitches, for adding more beads when they start flattening out in a few years, maybe a 25.4mm 10" zip?
I love when your surprised ....very nice people I will definitely put this location on our list
Beautiful countryside. Thanks 😊😊
Lovely sharing in your exploration and sewing😊
Nice video, relaxing topics. Ava, that hat works. Keep it! Cheers guys.
Love your cruising videos... though I am really looking forward to the windvane project!
That’s a fantastic cruising area. I spent the last 3 summers hanging out there.
Great outro shot of the town behind you!
the bean bag chairs should be a nice addition to the boat thanks for sharing and i will see you folks on next Sunday's video take care have a great week ahead
Have to check out your hiking mates, they seem to be quite interesting!
Thx for the vid!
👍👍👍
Your boat has really turned out nice. I’ve been watching the transition from the beginning 👍🏼
I repair stuff for a living and used to day sail a lot. Nice to watch your videos.
nice to see you with zack and becka, they seem like good people. always look forward to your videos, a little bit of amiable calm goes down well on Sundays.
Cant wait for ur beautifull DIY videos, love them, they teach me so many little thing. And love ur voiyage too. Good wind mate⛵⛵
@ 11:52 I think the correct term is "unspiffy" instead of "light duty", ❤ you guys
Everything strapped to Ava has a real Gilligan vibe. 😃
nice job on Safety Protocol Ava 👍😄😄
Stay safe and we'll see you next week.
I'm glad you are spending some time in Galicia. Norther Spain is a natural paradise. Look into some inland trips too. Time well spent.
Your dream was to rebuild a boat and sail. Here you are, having rebuilt two boats & living on a sailboat. Thank you so much for sharing. Always wonderful to see how giving your best, working hard, and being honest brings ones dreams to life. Know your/you're love
Love love love Galicia..!!!
😊🤙🏄☘
I have a beanbag on my boat, and it is freaking awesome!
Bien venidos a mi tierra Gallega , perdonar pero no hablo inglés ..!! sois fantásticos . 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
We used to call the 'infernal noise maker' the iron topsoil 😉
More Ava please she is part of the journey now too
Another great video - thanks. I like your new ending. The old one was good too but it was getting a little dusty. Ron
I've seen been bag cushions used for hunting in tree stands. They could be warmed up in a microwave oven for extra comfort on cold days.
I've done that trail in Altadena on my mountain bike. 😁
Looking forward to the wind vane video
Hi guys!! This is really exciting, because you guys are a couple hundred clicks from where i live... If you have the opportunity, i recomend you to visit the Cies Islands near the "Ria de Vigo" (i think you need some kind of a permit from the spanish autorities, but that shouldn´t be to hard...) !! You shoul also visit Baiona! It´s a really nice place (i myself have been there twice in the past). Stay safe!
Great episode. I think others have made the same suggestion, it I would have added a zipper, which would allow you add and remove balls whenever you want.
i would imagine putting a zipper in at the mesh for the filling materials would let you empty out the bags occasionally and put the stuffing to wash, and it would make emptying/filling the bean bags a bit easier.
I think you guys should be sewing retro-reflector tape piping on *everything* on the boat.
Bean bags makes sense for the cockpit. It can mould itself to all the different angles.
nice 👍
Good old Athena 😁
15:15 In the Army, we used to call those attachments 'Dummy Cords' - I'm guilty of that - I used to loose my compass and leaders notebook all the time. Paracord them, hang them, and they don't get lost... ;)
that fire was definitely caught and put out. 👍
I think it was left to proceed... best thing you can do if it's not too much underbrush yet. The trees have evolved to cope with a bit of fire every couple of years.
Tip for your wife, I also drop things and I made a rope with a strong magnet and a carabiner attached. Not the best idea for a phone but handy for knives, wrenches and other steel stuff etc.
Could you do a video of the on*off-line sources you use for boating information?
Great visiting with you folks, your videos are a real breath of fresh air and sunshine. It is wonderful watching both of you working together creatively; if you can do it, so can I.
Good luck with the self steering vane, as I recall with a little tweaking after install, the patience of Buddha and an acceptance that plus/ minus 15 degrees when sailing they work great. I hope you have one that is easy to take out of the water, backup the boat with a vane installed is a whole new level of interesting; ask me how I know.
Now it is time to freshen up my coffee and continue to address the 70 year old galvanized pipe under my daughter's house; even ashore the DYI fun never ends. DYI ashore is fun because at the end of the day I can soak in my daughter's hot tub with a long prayer than tomorrow I will still be flexible enough to crawl into the way too restricted under the house access openings; yep household plumbing is just like a boat; limited access and water where you don't want it.
Consider hooks for hammocks and realize you use them by placing your body across them. Use bungee cords to take out the boat motion as a shock absorber
Mads... you need to modify those beanbag chairs and add a stainless-steel zipper as the "beans" will flatten-out with time. I used to have a large beanbag chair as a teenager and I had to add beans every few months or so.
Thumbs up
See you👍🏽
I live in an 11 meter steel ketch (made in 1956) but that is only 3 meter wide, yours looks much wider, what size is Athena ? I love all the tech you build inside. I have a complete electronics repair/development workbench on board.
LindoOOOo
What a fantastic episode. A little diy.. a little travel vlog(expertly done).. and a little sailing.. 10/10
10:02 Waterfall in Altadena? I know that waterfall!
There was certainly a missed opportunity for a multi-tasker here.... If you had filled them with ACTUAL beans, that would free up more room inside cabin storage for passage-making provisions.
That wouldn't be the greatest of ideas! First beans don't float if it was to make it overboard. Second beans are pretty heavy. Third the beans will absorb moisture and either sprout and or ferment and really start to smell!
He was being facetious, most likely. I would sugges popcorn filling😊
You'll end up with a bag full of butt beans...
2:49 that bag looked like a huge sub sandwich lol Guess i should go make lunch 😅
Hey Mads and Ava - Nigel and Jo from Wychcraft here - we have a motto - steal with pride :) - and we have to say we stole the original idea for these from our good friends Tim and Gayle Evans from SV Wild Bird - glad you are enjoying the bean bags and great video - we found that making the funnel that you use to fill the bean bags from tin foil removed the static that collects on the beans and made it much easier to fill the bags - hope to see you guys again as you head south
In future I would recomend a heavy duty zipper
Has your starlink been treating you well. I was finally able to get it for my house and so far it has been alot faster than the only other internet I could get b4 starlink. I can say the speeds jump around alot. But as time goes on I feel it will get more stable as more satalites get sent into orbit..
It's been nothing short of amazing so far! 🙂 It's been a real game changer for us 🙂
Hej kanon Vidio god vin hele ugen..🇩🇰
That dad joke at 10;50 was absolut Gold ! Do you have something That you are not sharing with the rest of os? Some one placer an ordre on a mini Sander ?? 🤔
Another really great episode from you two. Nice journey inland and some truly Dang Spiffy Beanbags! Just out of curiosity...what's your sewing machine? Looks sturdy for canvas.
It’s from sailrite - I’m not sure which model - exactly what you need for boat-based canvas work.
Greetings from the Void..
The void? Ah, that'll be Liechtenstein then.....
I managed to convince the missus that the S (superman) t-shirt was S for Spiffy. Well proud of myself.
Parabéns, sensacional.
Could you have placed a 250mm long or thereabout zipper plaque into the side of one of the panels which could have been the opening to flip the bag and also fill or adjust the amount of balls inside?
hi Mads, i recently suffered from brachial neuritis in my mid right arm (just above my ellbow) and it took quite some time to get rid of it... not sure if your symptoms equal mine, but using an angora arm sleeve definitely helped a lot by keeping my arm very warm 24/7....
hope you'll get well soon....
Y’all are cute together
That’s called “SYNCING your DEVICE”.
8”+ zipper for fill
what's with the red and white broom propped up on the stbd side like that?
Are you going to stop in Rota or the Spanish Riviera
Ha ha... "a bit light duty". That concrete look more like a cow pat!
Too late now, but zippers work great on bean bags1
Acrylic boat canvas is very sun resistant but it is not very chafe resistant. I am not sure it is a good choice for a beanbag chair on a boat. But its not like I have made one. So I guess we will find out.
Great video! The perfect combination of DIY, sailing, adventure, and a little bit of food thrown in. (That melon looked delicious.) Love you folks! 😎❤️😎❤️😎❤️😎
what happened to the Hydrovane that came with the boat?
Not sure if it was staged, but Ava with all that stuff hanging around her neck looks suspiciously like the opening credits of Gilligan Island, where Gilligan is standing on the dock with binoculars and other stuff hanging on him
6” is big still guys.
Supermads 😀
Once again: Nice video..💪🎉❣
You always at the Final Act says : See You(u)... - BUT .. We see you.. You don't see us.. - Yeah ?? - Nah !!
Om jag minns rätt så tillverkas ett gott vin i Galicien (Ribeiro) skall helst vara den "ofiltrerade" ;)
Cheers!
I really look forward to getting my sailboat soon, one thing I would love to hear every time you move to a new location is a quick Starlink update.
Help me out here. If Athena already has autopilot installed, then what's the point of a wind vane?
A backup that is not reliant on electricity. Kind of like having a paper chart to backup the chartplotter/gps devices.
This last scene is the most satisfying, at last you relax and enjoy a nice sunset aboard good old Athena. Cheers
small advice _ by a fishing rod... and get free fish... spain is full of real good fish ;-)
👍👌❤🇨🇦
Am i missing the pattern
Bottle Opener!!!
⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵
:)
Ga-la-cia......glaciers are found in colder regions.
So the "melon express" is going to revert back to the original naming convention? How about drying and preserving all those melon seeds - you might use them as filler instead of polystyrene balls. Heh
Galicia: pronounced Gah...lith...ee..ah, with the emphasis on the LITH part.
Hi guys! I've been following your channel for the last years while I've been working in Dublin during the pandemic. It is so nice seeing you now in Galicia where I live. I couldn't watch all your last episodes, so not sure if you have been in Santiago de Compostela (Galicia Capital) if you haven't, please don't miss that chance. It is one of the most beautiful medieval towns in Europe, end of the Camino. There is also Vigo, and its ría (sort of bay) with loads of stories about. We call it Galifornia as its similarity to San Francisco bay. As you are from Danmark, there is an small old town called Catoira (close to Riveira and Combarro) with a close relationship with Fredirikssund DK. I guess too many interesting places to get around. Enjoy your staying here!! Jose.
May I suggest...
Roll up your cockpit cover/icing glass without any creases..
The straps look too short and rather narrow...
It will increase the lifespan..
also don't use anything that contains petrochemicals on them..
I use vegetable based..
and very weak and wash off Immediately..
Mads, I never thought I would hear you say 'We found a bottle opener, and headed back to Athena'. Not a speck of sanding dust to be seen, enjoy cruising! Forget the tech overboard, keep yourselves securely ON the boat. Bring overboard is scary and too late. Spain looks great.
