- How to install a Echo universal blade on a SRM 230 trimmer from Home Depot. In the video I installed the blade with the up side down & the cutting edges of the blade are facing the opposite direction of rotation. I just noticed it. My other blade cuts ether direction.
I've be n watching this video for years so thank you! Everytime I have to swap to the blade I watch it! Thank you! 🎉
@Johnny666M glad it helps
Just installed the Echo SRM Universal Blade Kit on my echo SRM-230. This video was very helpful. Time to go slay some brush and weeds!!!
This is what all equipment manufacturers should be doing instead of sending those paper instructions, i bought my Echo kit 3 yrs ago but the thought of putting it together just put me off till i saw your video now i will go ahead and do so, thanks for sharing JC.
Cool glad it helped
Thanks, this helped a lot. Bear in mind the blade is facing the wrong direction here. The arrows on the guard need to match the blade arrows.
THANK YOU FOR SHOWING AND EXPLAINING HOW TO REMOVE THE STRING HEAD THIS WAS HELPFUL
This was published in 2016, but it was helpful for me today in 2021. Thank you!
everybody online was like its going to take 30mins or more to switch over but watching your video it took me 10 min.
i almost took this echo back in frustration until i found your video,,,,thanks, i hope it turns out to be a good tool
Its a good trimmer. The blade does not spit grass everywhere & all over you. It slices the bottom & then the weeds lay over. The blade does not mulch the weeds. I bought a Ryobi S430 30cc 4 cycle trimmer on sale for about $175 from Home Depo. I bought a blade attachment for It & switch to trimmer line to blade in seconds. I like it because it is low vibration. My hands dont get numb using it & it really powerful. You do have to check the oil level occasionally. It too has been a great trimmer.
Thank you for your video! I'm about to install a blade on my SRM-265.
Although I don't think it really matters in your classroom environment, I believe you installed the blade backwards (upside down). My Echo spins counterclockwise when viewed from above. The blade teeth should be facing the other direction.
Thanks again!

Thank you for the helpful video. Your video makes the instructions easy to follow.
Great presentation/hands-on video....now to make purchase of said blade for my SRM225....and, saplings here-I-come! Thanks!!
Thanks for the video. It was very well done. It provided a basic familiarization with what the parts are along with where they go, and will speed up my installation process quite a bit. Thanks again.
Lmao at 7:23 he said "Woohoo I'm going to destroy some weeds" 😂😂
Everytime I tighten the nut the blade got stuck and couldn't figure why out. Thanx for the vid brother, it turns out I didn't use the spacer. All's good now.
Mine too!
Very nice video JCH . I don't see anyone make brush cutter conversion video of Dewalt 20VDC String Trimmer. Can you make one for this?
Nice video, your shorts match the trimmer, I didn’t know Echo made shorts too
What is the bush blade attachment part number or any other information you can supply so I can find the attachment. I went to home depot site and cannot find it.
Thanks for this video! Very helpful. But oh I wish you did a demo :)

i think echo should hire you to explain all their tools their manuals are like chinese to me.
How to disassemble the cords trimmer head of a Sthil70 striker
According to Echo - You're supposed to measure the shaft to determine if you need to first put in the provided spacer, then you know which adapter to use - kit comes with three different ones. (4:41 in video).
Dude... IMA do this in 2019 with the brush kit I bought with the Echo-230 in 2015... It’s still cutting fine...
thank you for this video men I did it 😂
Also I would suggest to anyone to also get this blade.
ECHO 8 in. 80-Tooth Brush Blade for Brush Cutter For smaller trees.
I'm getting it for 6 and 7 ft. grass, cutting a 3 ft.wide path for 250- 300 yards to get to my deer and hog blinds, too much rain this year and cant get tractor cutter out there. Things we do for the hunt :) Thanks for the video.
YES the 80-Tooth Brush Blade is awesome www.amazon.com/Echo-69500120331-80-Tooth-Brush-Blade/dp/B00864R4GK
Great Video! Any idea what I do if I forgot to put the adapter plate back on? Without the adapter plate I cant unscrew the head. All I can come up with is needle nose pliers and a tight grip....
Gonna get one of these kits for my 230. I can't justify buying the brushcutter if I'm only going to use it once or twice a year.
The way this Echo blade is designed, the short cutting parts of the blade only stick out about 1cm so when it hits a clump all the rotational force is concentrated on the 1cm area so its difficult to bog the engine this saves the motor & other parts from wear. My other 3 blade has longer blades & if you hit a clump of grass or cut too fast or whatever there is more force to stop the larger area of the longer blade all at once, so the longer cutting blades tend to put more stress on the weed eater. The Echo blade in this video seems to be engineered to keep the weed eater safe & cut a good volume of weeds & brush at the same time.
thank you, this help me out alot.
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!!!! THAN YOU!!!
Excellent.
If you have one weed eater, I guess it’s best to get another that is dedicated to the blade?
The blade is upside down.
thanks budy
im looking to replacer the nut
i have no idea what size it is
can someone help me
i installed this today on the same trimmer you have just like you did but the blade spins for a few seconds then stops. i noticed that after it spins it over tightens the large nut and doesnt have enough torque to spin freely anymore. if i loosen the nut and run the blade then it’s dangerously loose and wobbles alot. any suggestions? could i of done something wrong?
You may have the wrong adapter. mine came with few different adapters. check the hardware that it all matches. its been a while since i used that blade so i forgot exactly how it went together. i usually make the videos for me to look at later after i forgot.
Could the string knife just be removed from the guard as opposed to replacing the whole guard?
yes, says so in the manual
I just got mine ,works great! However, I see no point in converting to blade then I cannot use for small areas around rocks etc. hence losing out on capabilities. I am thinking just return it for the easy attachment for $50 more. That way I can easily switch between blade and string!
Why do you jeep talking about an alternate adapter???
I have a question my blade gets stock wat can it be
Do you change guards when you switch back to trimmer line?
Yes I change the guards when I switch from the blade back to the trimmer line. The trimmer line guard has a knife edge on it that cuts the line to a certain length during operation so you can not make it too long putting stress on the motor.
You DON'T have to, I don't
Would it fit on a stihl
My Airecut blade is universal the Echo blade is the same size. I'm guessing the stihl would be universal size so other blades would fit. stihl has their own similar blades pretty inexpensive.
Very helpful. The instructions that came with it were horrid
Do you know what the "barrier bar" is for?
I just use it as a handle.
It is in case of kickback that it hits you in the thigh area. Not a handle.
Is the SRM 230 and SRM 225 the same installation?
SRM 230 & SRM 225 Parts Diagram look very similar so the install will be the same or very similar. You may have to use a different fitting plate as shown at 1:12 in the video
hows the miata?
+Shredzilla100 my engine is finished but I have to pick it up.
so we talking a built block?
Shredzilla100 Yes its built. Manley rods & Supertech 9.5 to 1 pistons. Im planning on 325 to 350 hp
wow very cool. Stock MSM trans?
Shredzilla100 Yes stock Mazdaspeed 6 speed transmission can handle 360 hp.
I think that's a weed eatter....
