    • @BeepBoopBee
      @BeepBoopBee Pƙed rokem +8

@@marmota7615 yeah, but there's more pokemon than just infernape. So cutting such a large percentage of the dex to get that average isn't a proper representation of everything that region has to offer.
There's a lot of dumb ways he trimmed the lists. Regional forms are put in a different region than where they were introduced (Alolan Vulpix should be in the Alola list, because you couldn't use Alolan Vulpix in kanto when they were introduced. Same goes for other regional forms), weak unevolved pokemon get booted when they are just as much a part of that region as the fully evolved ones of that region, legendary Pokemon were cut all together when it would've made much more sense to just put them in the list for the region they were introduced in, new evolutions for old pokemon were cut when they are new pokemon in their own right, etc etc. It feels less like an investigation based in facts and more like a targeted system to only confirm the hypothesis with no allowed way to refute the hypothesis.

For example, there isn't any fully evolved fish pokemon with bad stats like luvdisc - I'm quite sure the lowest base stat pokemon on Kalos is Vivillion at 411, then Diggsby at 423 and Dedenne around 430. After this all fully evolved pokemon have above 450 base stats
Its not strong pokemon but rather the lack of weak pokemon if that makes sense

I actually agree with this system, and with most of the filters. Let me explain:
Base Stat Total is the only objective measurement of quality we possess in Pokemon. While it's true that otherfactors, like Abilities, Typing, and Movesets exist which can negate the disadvantage of a low BST, and a high BST Pokemon can suffer more that a low BST for similar reasons, none of that changes the fact that having more stat points is just objectively better than less, due to it increasing how high a Pokemon can take its individual stats witout guaranteeably sacrificing power in other areas.
So, BST is the way to go, but what about the filters? I feel that removing alternate forms, but keeping regional variants was a good idea. RVs, as pointed out, are basically just new Pokemon that have the same names as old ones, so removing them just because of the latter is silly. However, alternate forms have the ability to both unfairly boost a region, but also to unfairly cripple it.
If higher BST Pokemon receive multiple forms in a region - including Megas - this can potentially force the average higher without adding entirely new Pokemon, which is an unfair advantage over regions which don't do the same. In opposition, however, giving a lower BST Pokemon multiple forms could potentially force the average lower, effectively crippling the region's rank, without adding new Pokemon, which is unfair to the point of this rank, that being to compare the power of the individual Pokemon introduced, without having to do a case-by-case study that would take forever.
So that's the first filter. I think cutting out Legendaries and all Legendary Sub-Types is also a good idea. Legendaris are almost universaly, if not actually universally, stronger than the average for non-Legendaries as a default, while at the same time being significantly more limited in usability than those non-Legendaries (Ls are more likely to be banned from various competitive tiers (some sub-types are banned by default), and only 1 of each L can appear in each save, so the number you'll aquire of an L vs a non-L of relatively equivalent power is significantly fewer). This, in essence, gives regions with more an unfair boost, so cut that.
Finally, I also agree with cutting out all non-fully-evolved Pokemon from a gen, keeping only those that were fully evolved when they were releaased (Golbat for Gen 1, Misdreavous for Gen 2, etc), because, as pointed out, non-FE Pokemon aren't really all that important to a playthrough. Unless you're doing a challenge that specifically requires you use a non-FE, chances are you'll either evolve it to full, or not use it. The only exceptions are very specific instances in competitive play, and don't change the point that while they will be willing to use an non-FE temporarily in their playthrough, the average player only cares about the final forms. Plus, this also unfairly disadvantages regions that did include lots of strong Pokemon, but also happened to include lots of weaker, non-FE ones as well, such as baby Pokemon. So cutting non-FEs is the way.
However, I heavily disagree with the final filter Mikey applied, that being to remove new evolutions for old lines. The reason I disagree is because, while it is true that a new evolution would be expected to have higher stats, it's also true that there is nothing that really makes it different to a brand new Pokemon that shares the same BST besides its connection to an old line. It is, in essence, a new Pokemon for that region, so to ban it simply because it has a connection to an old line, means doing the same to regional variants. After all, an RV of a Pokemon whose FE has a high BST would naturally also have an FE with a high BST, so why aren't we banning them? Because RVs are effectively just new Pokemon that share a name with an old one. So too, are new evolutions effectively just new Pokemon that happen to share a design theme with an old one.
As such, I would use the second to last list given, as it seems, to me, the most objctively accurate list given thus far. This list - with averages rounded to 1 decimal point - is:
    1. Gen 6 (Kalos) - 497.9
    2. Gen 4 (Sinnoh) - 495.6
    3. Gen 8 (Galar) - 494.2
    4. Gen 5 (Unova) - 492.8
    5. Gen 1 (Kanto) - 476.7
    6. Gen 7 (Alola) - 473.7
    7. Gen 3 (Hoenn) - 461.6
    8. Gen 2 (Johto) - 458.5

I think doing a median would make for a more compelling argument than average as it takes a better picture of what a belcurve pokemon within a generation looks like. My guess is that it would favor later generations even more but I think it would paint a better picture of the stat points of each of the generations. I honestly like the older generations in spite of their weakness because it means thinking more strategically like a game of chess rather than simply wiping the opponent with super powerful pokemon. I always found it exceptionally satisfying that I could capture a weird assortment that manages to cripple a team that is 10 lvls higher and type advantaged with an interesting, bizzare sometimes, assortment of moves. Personal ranking of the first 3 gens would be 2, 1, 3 because 2nd came out with some of the most fascinating moves like pain split and nightmare and eccentric guys like Noctowl. 3rd generation had those like Kecleon or Sableye but I felt like the game was getting a little more power based and focused a little more on the starters. The 1st gen was definitely more fun scaled than 3rd imo because you could easily swap the teams including the starter, around and mix-and-match with any style, box them for whatever period and maybe take out later.

Further it makes sense to drop anything that’s not a fully evolved PokĂ©mon since larger dex regions with a ton of new PokĂ©mon are gimping themselves over regions line Sinnoh that was able to just add in final evolutions to other generations PokĂ©mon which just boosted them for the reason of being a later game when in universe a Kanto onyx would still evolve to steelix and a Johto eevee can still evolve into Sylveon.
After that dropping newer forms stripped that additional power from gens riding previous coattails and only counted BRAND NEW Pokémon introduced into that generation and not just a new evolution.

I feel like you should average duplicate forms instead of removing them excluding certain specific cases ie you should remove kyurem black and white. And I think you should separate out the out the regular from the legendary and mythical tally them separately which should help prevent a region having more legendaries from being more important than the average strength of the legends each region has. Still put more weight on regular pokemon, also you should separate the regular pokemon into fully evolved, partially evolved and unevolved (single evos should be in fully evolved category and 2 stage should have its 2nd stage be in fully evolved category and 1st stage in the unevolved catagory)(a case could be made to place single stage evolved pokemon in the partially column). then you should add up full evos average counting 4-5 times, partial evos counting 1-2 times, unevos counting 1 time, and legends counting 1 time, then averaging those totals(play around with the number of "times" each grouping gets counted to your hearts content) and then post the results!
Your results in my opinion are more like a how competitively viable is each region not how strong is a each region, which isn't a bad thing it just seems more meta than a person who is living in the pokemon world would come up with.

Personally, I'd go with all fully evolved ånd legendary Pokémon because you can use them in the games. I'd exclude mega Pokémon though, because they're just temporary digivolutions

Gen 2 is my favorite, but I don't know what they were thinking with some of the new pokemon's stats. You'd think by giving a pokemon its own specific location on the map and lore that Unown would actually be good, but it's pathetically bad!

The video title quite literally says “Which Region Has the Strongest PokĂ©mon?” Therefore he’s talking about all the PokĂ©mon in those regions. I understand getting rid of other forms, but removing the legendaries, and then going as far as bumping Gen 4 out of first doesn’t make much sense, he’s talking about the PokĂ©mon in that region so even if there’s 20+ legendaries, they’re STILL from that region regardless and therefore should be counted, otherwise it wouldn’t make sense.

Had to take a few classes of for stats in psychological testing! Also a big fan of hard numbers! Couldnt help but wonder if the results would be different if we used median rather than average? since there is a big skew in BST between mons with no evolutions vs fully evolved. Like if legendaries and all evolution stages were kept in consideration, which mon would fall right in the middle of BST distribution and be the average representation of its region?

Can we take a minute to acknowledge that gen 2 was supposed to be the final game, and was created mostly with the intention of show casing the end of Red’s (the player’s) journey within the last game. It also prompted you to utilize the ‘old favorites’ while other generations didn’t force you to reuse past generations of PokĂ©mon.

I'd be most interested in sorting this final list by only the strongest 6 Pokemon. A trainer can't have a team larger than that so it's logical that only the strongest 6 come into play for an individual team :o
