  • In today’s discussion on controversial issues related to women, we discuss polygyny. Why is this even allowed in Islam? Doesn’t this practice put women in a disadvantaged position within a marriage? Let’s sit down with Dr. Shabir Ally.

    What i think is that a lot of people despite having realized that the world and its system now is not is as it was before 1400 years ago, they still stick to the so called traditions. Of course traditions holds a great value in religion but there are sometimes we hav to make developments to that with time rather than holding on to that same view points forever. For me, people like Dr.Shabeer Ali is what Islam needs these days who can educate people that certain parts of Quran was for certain people for certain times and for dealing with certain issues at that time, like him talking about women's rights. Women's rights were different those times and what they need is different these days. Would be naïve to consider these 2 times and people as same.

    Thanks to people like Dr. Shabir. His speaches are so enlightening.
    Had i known that the present version of islam that is being represented by majority muslims and pseudoscholars is way apart from Quranic teachings I would have never converted to Islam.

    • @nabarun83
      @nabarun83 Před 3 lety +4

      But isn't that a better reason to convert to Islam and spread awareness of the actual teachings? I mean, it's not just Islam. Followers of every religion have distorted the teachings of their respective religions. So that way it's better that you spread Islam the way it is prescribed in the Qur'an.

    Smart women should put the condition in marriage so no poligymy allowed in the contract. Also put in the contract that you have right to divorce. If he doesn't agree move on and find and marry a real man who will love you. Teach your daughters to have self respect.

      1. Polygamy is not "disrespectful". 2. Muslim women already have the right to divorce without stipulating it in a contract. 3. Teach your Western women to have self-respect since they are the worse

    • @KS-cl8br
      @KS-cl8br Před 2 lety

      @@abumansaray7 Go to 🔥. No point of mentioning western women you embicle. I am a muslima. Polygamy is usually disrespectful. There are 5 types of divorce allowed in Islam. Yes one type a woman can request divorce but she needs husband permission to complete it. The type I mention gives the woman the right to issue a divorce herself like the husband without waiting on him to give approval. This puts on a more equal footing. If you want this then you must put in the contract. The other way a woman gets a divorce is to request from the muslim judge or Imam but then yet again she would have to wait on a MAN to decide instead of deciding herself.

The Quran speaks about it, it was a practice back then, the Quran started a path to end the slavery, and now we don't have it. Same with women rights.

    The Qur’an makes it clear. And women also have the right to not want to marry. She can refuse. If on proposal she makes it clear that he won’t marry another then after marrying if he does then he has committed a great sin. It’s not right to make it seem that men are “dog” and want multiple women because this was written in the Quran, u can’t believe in part of the Quran if ur Muslim then you’re a disbeliever. And men if you cannot take care of these women and u marry them, know that you commit a great sin and you should’ve married only one as it is written. We can’t change the teachings to make humans comfortable then things like LGBT would start to trickle in. So women u have the right to not get married or ask your fiancé to promise to you that he will not marry another and you have the right to divorce. Alhumdulillah.

    I have a question. If we don't take Quranic 7th century ruling as complete for mankind, specially here in the case of women's rights, whose enlightenment are we then to follow? A global progressive value? An international body? What if it's from groups that don't make proper assessment and their worldview are pushed due to political advantages or favoritism? How do we distinguish between whose values are better and fairer? Perhaps tomorrow the global movement may call for premarital sexes to be an obligation and part of international women's rights which is probably already happening in the Norwegian countries. Call it internalized patriarchy or anti-colonial mindset, we see what happens to society here and elsewhere and the results thereof. Can we take the values of a particular group who have a different worldview and beliefs that are sometimes contrary to the Islamic rulings. I try to bring a balance by picturing my own family in such situation.

    • @Broeske3
      @Broeske3 Před 7 lety +8

      Alim Khan Dear brother I don't think that Dr Shabir Ally meant a global movement and ignoring the original rulings. What I understood is that we should focus more on the goals instead of the means. He mentioned goals like righteousness and taking care of the orphans. Today's Islamic societies ignores all these beautiful goals for mankind. Also if there is a movement it can never be global. Because each society is different.

      Am I the only one who sees how Mr Shabeer quotes and adopts Yusuf Ali and other scholars' commentaries when their opinions support his.
      But so flippantly rejects the opinions of same scholars when they are not in tandem with his.
      The truth is many people who rely on this channel are unsuspecting naive Muslims who don't realize that Mr Shabeer doesn't hold any of the Islamic sources sacrosanct,not even the Quran.
      His channel is titled ' let the Quran speak' but when the Quran prescribes cutting the hand of the thief, he rejects the Quran.
      He will quote Ahadeeth, but the naive audience do not realize that he cherrypicks the ahadith, and by his admittance he does not give a flying flamingo about the science of hadith as a basis of identifying true hadeeth. His only basis of identifying what is "authentic" hadeeth is whether it makes sense to him or not.
      He conveniently rejects scholastic interpretations and commentaries.
      So what exactly does this man adhere to? what is the basis of his religion?
      ❌Not Quran, (I proved that up there, in fact on flogging the fornicator which is clearly mentioned in the Quran, he rejects this as well bcos "it isn't compatible with the times we live in")
      ❌Not hadeeth
      ❌Not the scholastic interpretations
      So What exactly forms the basis of the Deen according to Mr Shabeer??
      To all his disciples, I want you to see this and beware. Mr Shabeer has a very heretic epistemology.

The issue came with *who* he sent the proposal to. It was to a woman from a tribe which was the enemy to the Prophet saw. Fatima ra did not tolerate that because it went against the glory and status of her father, that his son in law would also be enjoying life with a woman from the family who want him dead. Thats when the hadith came about in which the Prophet saw said ‘whoever angers/hurts Fatima hurts me’
