    How did I not know this?? I’ve had a keyboard with sticky keys for years.. now I can clean it! Rum+Coke not the best combo when having a small desk.

    So uh.. I have a skylion g300, it says it's hot swap, everywhere I search.. but if I try to remove the switch I almost break it, it just loosens up a bit.

    I noticed that you also used your middle finger to push down on the keyboard and thereby giving you the leverage to pull out the switch without lifting the keyboard.

    i've made sure both my clips are clipped, but my top clip often got broken. did i clip them too hard? or is this a common thing and generally harmless?

      It can happen from time to time but best avoided as it leaves little to grab on to.

      Low profile switches are usually on the side, MX switches are the top and bottom.

    Can ANYONE help?!? I have a Corsair Strafe RGB MK.2 keyboard and i am having the WORST time getting switches out. I have the Cherry MX Red Silent switches and bought a lube kit to lube everything up after 6-7 years of intense gaming with it and CANNOT get these gahtdayum switches out of this keyboard lol. Do i need to take the back screws and everything out? Or should I just be able to pop switches out??? Feel like Its almost not hitting the tabs that unlock it, but i tried 5-8 keys before giving up because i felt like i was about to break something

      There are no "sleeves" on mechanical keyboard switches. You'll want switches with thin pins, like from Akko, Outemu and Gazzew.

      How do they break? Does the top housing break off of the bottom or are the tabs near the RGB slot breaking? Are you sure the PCB is hot-swappable? Perhaps a photo?

      If the clip is broken, it will take a bit of work, you might need to use a small flat head to provide leverage on the side the clip is broken.

      Fashion a strong but maleable metal, like a coat hanger, make a "U" and use pliers to make little "feet" at the ends pointing towards each other, using pliers or a hammer to flatten the feet, then you should be able to use each foot to grab the clips at the top and the bottom of the switch then pull.
      But probably best to get a switch puller.

      I had to switch some keys because my w key just suddenly would never respond to my button pushes don't know why but I got it.

    My dumbass thought you just have to pull it forcefully from the sides when I got my first mechanical keyboard. Took me like two weeks of fiddling with the switches before I found out that your tool is supposed to clip on the top and bottom, and not the sides.

    Whenever I tried to pull a keycap, the switch also get pulled out even though I put it back properly?
    Is this because I got a loose switch, skill issue when pulling it, or this is just a general thing with mechanical keyboards? (I'm still a newbie and just bought my first mechanical keyboard)

      Sounds like the tolerances on your plate are a bit loose and your keycap is grabbing on to the switch too tightly, nothing to worry about.

      Sounds like the pin may have broken off, a pair of tweezers should help you retrieve it, though you may need to disassemble the keyboard to get to it.

      @@bloop756 there is a chance that the socket is loose? Use a pair of tweezers while you have a keyboard tester open and see if you can get it to trigger, but if the socket is loose, you'll need a repair.

    another thing to save you from massive headaches is that some mechanical keyboards that still are hot-swappable, will not as intended with all switches. I have recently tested out the brand Machenike K500, and for that particular KB, you will only have success when using OUTEMO switches. Gateron and Cherry MX will bend the pins upon installation. Good to know.

      @@MechKeyboards ​Yeah, where the switch clicks into place. I've got a keyboard that somehow got a bit of oil into a couple of the hot swap sockets
      (the oil is so thin that it seeped down the edges of the switches into the socket itself).
      Just wondering if it's safe to hit it with some alcohol.

      It depends of the PCB has five otherwise if it only has three than the two classic legs have to be cut off in order to use them.

      While I've seen others do this, I do not recommend it as metal and water do not mix. Water will oxidize the leaf spring. I'd even be hesitant to use 99% ISO.

      It can be bought online, but should have been included in your keyboard if it is hot swappable. It's called a wire or metal key switch and keycap puller.

      No, the pins should be straight always, make sure the switch is correctly orientated.

      @@swoshy_swift do the sockets on your PCB look like the one in this video or do they look like little round metal rings? If so, you could have Outemu/Millmax sockets which are only compatible with a certain number of switches.

      @@MechKeyboards They do not look like these in the video there are 2 metal pins and 2 little holes and 1 big one. But the 2 little holes are for the metal pins. And because they are so little its very hard to put them in straight.

      @@swoshy_swift those sound like Outemu sockets, you will only be able to use Outemu switches, Akko switches with wing latch tops, and a handful of others that have thinner pins to fit those sockets.

    So just a tip to anyone that dont have the tool he is using i tried using two flat head screwdrivers and it popped off and i saw a spring and i was like UH ohh Uh ohh... but hey some super glue and its worling again but the tip is dont try using screwdrivers

      @@Zukye. You have to make sure you are properly grabbing both the top and bottom clips on the switch, before pulling, and pull straight up. Are your sockets MillMax or Kailh?

      Did your keyboard come with a switch puller? If it did not then it is most likely not hot swappable. Search Google for PCB hot swap and you will see what a hotspot keyboard looks like on the back of the PCB.

      If are confident they are hot swappable, just make sure your puller has a good curve on the ends and that they are well attached to both the bottom and top of each switch.

      @@MechKeyboards yes, it is hotswappable i put the switches in myself, but a few of the switches just arent coming out no matter how hard i pull them out, ive also damaged one of the housings trying to pull them out so im trying to find solutions before trying to pull them out again

    This is not a hot swap socket. Hot swap sockets are the harnesses on the back of some PCBs such as the Minivan or the GMMK I modular board. This is a video on how to simply remove plate mounted switches from plate.

      The switches are inserted through the plate into the white PCB's hot swap sockets. Hot swap PCBs use either hot swap sockets, like shown in this video, or MillMax style sleeves.

      @@Sunkhrist if your keyboard came with a switch removal tool, then most likely it is how swap. You can also check the listing or if nothing else, open the case and check the back of the PCB.

      @@airbuz7450 3 pin switches will fit 5 pin holes fine, 5 pin switches will need their extra legs cut off to fit in a 3 pin PCB.

      @@ndndjdnbs7375 The Apex Pro TKL does not use Cherry MX switches, they use a proprietary Omnipoint Adjustable system which is not hot swap.

      It did but I lost that one. I have a new puller and cap remover. I put the puller on the top and bottom of them and pull but they dont budge.
