I'm just gonna be blunt: drawing England is a decent result, but it's hardly one anyone outside the US will remember in 10 years' time. Better teams have drawn or even lost to worse teams, it happens all the time. Drawing Wales is a bad result. Beating Iran 1-0 is a good result, but it's far from an earth-shattering one. The US played attractive football, but their results were just average. The Netherlands may not be so preoccupied with playing the kind of high-energy, intense football that Americans love, but they have MUCH more individual quality in their squad and they are managed by an all-time great coach. Energy and intensity don't win World Cup knock-out games; tactics do. And this US team was always going to be outplayed in that regard. I am honestly a bit confused as to why everyone was so positive about the USMNT's chances beforehand. This is not a bad result, let alone a shocking one. The US were the underdogs, and in the end they got outperformed by a better squad with a better plan and a better manager. It's not a surprise at all. No endless analysis needed. The US is an outsider at best in men's international football, while the Dutch are serial contenders belonging to international football's elite. This was a logical outcome to anyone outside North America.

We are ranked in the top 15 in the world and get out of the 1st round in the World Cup pretty consistently. Our players are playing in top leagues all over Europe. Are we a great team yet? No. Are we better then The Netherlands? Obviously not. We were the second youngest team there and our future is bright!

Why are you beating down the US as if an underdog country believing in their team is only exclusive to the US? I'm sure Saudi Arabia thought they could go all the way after beating Argentina. As an American that watches the sport, us getting to the knockout stages is a big deal for us because we didn't even qualify last time. Also, anything the US does internationally that's positive should be shameful to y'all because football isn't even our #3 sport and it's #1 for almost everybody else. Just saying 🤷🏿‍♂️

Frank made a great point on the livestream earlier about how the US soccer system is too pay to play and many families are simply priced out of being able to send their kids to play organized soccer. Contrast that with a country like France, where even kids from the poorest backgrounds can play in organized youth leagues from the very start. US has a much deeper talent pool than what we’ve seen, but the youth system eliminates kids from families that can’t afford to pay to play.

    1) Mark the players, don't get lost watching the ball
    2) Keeper should not make catastrophic mistakes when in possession of the ball
    3) Don't put the shortest number 9 against the tallest defense
    4) Don't panic when in one to one situation with a keeper. Stay cool and score.
    5) Shoot at the goal more often. You can't score if you don't shoot.

ARod had to pinch inside to help, nobody is picking up the back post. I blame Yedlin on this goal. He was in no mans land. The USA midfield was poor today. Very poor. the problem was that they had the game plan figured out quickly more so than the usa.... like the usa was a joke.... i saw the game at a supermarket... the usa was meek in the first half... the dutch just sat back and commanded their game ... which means that their pre-game strategy was prevalent.. which shows me that the usa had NO commitment in the game at all to begin with.... I could expect that from team Canada trying out their coach/ all girls first and then guys sort of style.... but honestly i thought the usa would smarted up... anyways! i know ... go go girls and all.. but the way they approach this game .. it left me wondering... it should have been more a cohesive drive unto a goal.... instead. .....................

Hi just a small message from the "opponent" here, don't be to hard on the US players and coach. You guys have a great team full of potential, but in contradiction to some other sports football (soccer) is more than just putting a lot of energy in it. This young squad will have to learn how to play different kind of tactics, and that is not something to be a shamed of.
Still four years to go before the tournament will be in North America again, by than all those young lads will have learned a lot. What the team does need is a coach who has experience with all the different playing styles, but who also understands the American mentality, and that is probably the biggest hurdle.

Sorry, but Louis van Gaal without a Plan B would be ludicrous. He knew the US would be fast and energetic, and the Netherlands absorbed this storm very well. When your team is spread all over the field, a counter attack with three players is enough to do something. The Dutch finishing is far better developed. With an excellent goal keeper, shots from distance do not stand a chance, but the US keeper isn't world top. Both first goals were by a ball played back towards the center and a very hard and fast shot on goal.
This means that the Dutch coach truly analyzed the US team in detail and knew where their strength and weakness are.

Bingo. You nailed it. Nobody wants to say it. I even wondered if he was injured or just not feeling well. He looked completely lost in midfield today. Low energy, no strength. Memphis outsprinted him by 10 yards on a 40 yards sprint. That was embarrassing how the first goal was made. Memphis is one of the slowest players at FCB (I watch all their games).

The England/USA game was terrible. More like a friendly than anything even remotely competitive. Not saying they colluded but I think both just mailed it in and since the other team was happy to just go through the motions they both were content to take the easy draw and then make sure they both beat the other teams. Granted this worked because Group B was so weak, only Group A was weaker.

If USA can market the sport of soccer better to all our tier 1 men superb athletes. Then we could possibly see a shift change in the future for team USA to be more dominant in FIFA competition play. As of now, American Football, Baseball, & Basketball are more of the favorable sport, due to more money making in USA for all our young tier 1 men athletes.

Man…they need to get a striker for the USMT. Probably trade from another club from Europe…Just like how the NBA does!!!!

I liked the way the U.S went about their games. Control the ball and probe for attacks, like a European or South American team but they just dont have the players to do that for 90 minutes....yet. When the U.S. have players like the English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Brazilian, Argentinian squads, they will be a scary, scary team. Hold your heads high, you have nothing to be ashamed of. You done your country proud. o7
