  • In which I finally answer the question... what do I think about this deck? SPOILER ALERT...it's all good!
    FYI, I'll be putting this video along with all the others on this deck in a designated playlist for ease of navigation.
    NOTE - I REEALLYYYY DONT LIKE THAT I MIXED THE MEANING OF "MYTHOLOGY" AND "FOLKLORE". Just so you know...

    Your pasty face outdoors? The setting was beautiful. All that green, with your beautiful red hair - an illustration from a fairytale! I always liked - appreciated - the Pagan Otherworlds, but it is rather cool and definitely white. I like that it's not warm and fuzzy, but I did avoid it because I am a person of color. Now, after watching your video, I might have to look at it again. Thanks a lot! 😣 I know I'm babbling. Please forgive. Thanks for the video!

      I do think that this deck falls short in terms of diversity and inclusivity. I am glad you have found value in my video on it though! Thanks so much for engaging with it!

    It's lovely to see your connection to this deck. It didn't click for me, but I see why! You understand it more and research it with more success :)

      Oh I like that! Having what clicks for one person clarify why it doesn't for another. Also, I totally agree that a deck needs to kind of lend itself to what a person feels inclined to research :) Thanks Anna!

      Thank you! It was such a gorgeous day! Coudln't believe my luck...lashing rain all the week before and again immediately after. I had a walk around after filming and had to head home because the clouds were rolling back in!

    Hello. I'm a new subscriber. I really appreciated this in depth perspective, and especially the insights on the images' ability to slow down time and create space for reflection. I never understood why, or perhaps did not even realize that this deck gives me a sense of peacefulness, but your observations really resonated. Thank you!

      Welcome! I'm so glad you liked the video! To be honest, my whole journey with making these videos on the Pagan Otherworlds started because I also had questions about it's effect on me and sort of ...started trying to figure that out. :)

    Gorgeous face in sunlight...lean into some Irish Girl magic my friend...when ever I feel a little less than gorgeous I lean into my Black Girl magic...I always end up with residual pixie dust to carry me through to the next time I need to remember 😉🥰

      Yes, I noticed upon coming back to reply to comments that perhaps I was vocalising some unecessarily harsh thoughts about my appearance. No self-bashing allowed! Self-celebration instead. :)

    Great observations! Again, I love this deck. I don’t even have to use formal spreads with it. I usually just pull three cards and let the story unfold from there.

      I totally agree with you on using that kind of approach! That tends to be my go to method for reading any deck, for the most part...but also I think it's a great technique for any more historically informed deck or pip deck. Very fitting with the notion of open space!

    Hi Sorsha! Thanks for another fascinating discussion about this deck...hope you will continue this series, as it has really helped me understand it better. I couldn't get the link to the Wheel images to work for me but it might be my computer's security gatekeeper. I'm going to pull out my copy of the deck and study it more in light of your narrative, and as always, I learned something and have a few more trails to follow!

      I had a look into the link for the wheel/astronomical manuscripst the other day. I think it was on the British Library blog site's end because it seems to be back up now! Maybe try again?

    When I saw the Swan on the 9 of Swords card I thought about the "Swan of Tuonela". So it is linked to thoughts of Death and endings, which can be very nightmarish. But the figure of the swan is hope, even in the darkest nights of the Soul. Love this and your other videos, so happy to found you here. Love, Sylke

      I probably will do more in the future. The beauty of a good tarot deck is that it keeps on giving! I suspect it will be more as and when ideas kind of come together and click, though...so we'll see! So glad you liked the video!

    thank you Sorsha. This deck has always been the one that I name when thinking about one of those favourite deck tags. I don't have one favourite, I have quite a few, but this is the one whose name pops out when I manage not to overthink & simply react🙂
    Everyone knows I think, it is the closest to perfect deck of art, tarot, card stock & everything else all rolled into one -- IMO. I loved listening to all you had to tell about it. I never get tired of listening to you talk about one of your areas of expertise.
    By the way, you look lovely in the sun thanks again ❣

      Thank you! Yes I think for those who like it at all, this deck does tend to get mentioned pretty consistently. But I've also been happy to discover through working on these videos just how much depth it has. Very fun and envigorating!

    I’m a year late to this party but is the guide book worth it? Thx

    • @SaoirseGraves
      @SaoirseGraves  Před 5 měsíci

      I'm not sure that's a question I'm equipped to answer... it depends on what you tend to want/prefer from a guidebook. Factually, the guidebook features short narrative-based explorations of a more mystical take on the deck. The deck itself already functions out of historic systems with RWS friendly symbolism so I think the guidebook *is* a value add if what you would like more of is it's Otherworldly/metaphorical/dreamy leanings. It certainly allows the creators more agency and voice, which can be a nice way to characterise/approach their output! Personally, I would classify it as way better than an LWB and worth a look maybe some day but if you're experiencing hesitation, it might be worth purchasing the guidebook at a later date. The fact that it's sold separately allows for that kind of choice, which is nice! :)

    Pagan Otherworlds definitely feels like the show Britannia, before they ruined the ending.

    • @SaoirseGraves
      @SaoirseGraves  Před rokem +1

      I have not watched the show...but I wonder if exploring the deck in conjunction with the world in a tv show or film can help to create a kind of...imagine inner landscape? Or a mythos? Or maybe you can create a different ending using the deck ^_^

    I enjoyed your thoughts on this beautiful deck, Sorscha. I’ve had a copy along with the guidebook since June but have yet to really read with it yet. Not quite sure why after lusting after it for a few years…Perhaps it still seems intimidating somehow? It is also a bit big for my hands and slippery which seems to be a hurdle that takes me awhile. But with time I’m sure we will bond and get down to some kind of business together. 🙏🏼🍁🪶🎨🦢

      Maybe neither you or the deck are in a rush? Perhaps you match in that way ;) In terms of size, I think @inkyswordtarot has a video showcasing their trimmed version of it? It is rather large and long for some hands (including mine, I just also like how the borders look). ^_^

      @healinginteriors Před rokem +1

      @@SaoirseGraves Yes, good point. No rush or just not yet our time together. And I did briefly ponder trimming it but…it just seems wrong to me on multiple levels with this deck. It’s so beautiful as is that I’ll learn to manage it. Thanks for your kind thoughts. 🙏🏼🕸✨
