I can watch/listen to you talk for hours. I am all about vintage/retro/historical beauty products and techniques. Cold cream has been my number one go-to since the early 80s. I love time travel and creative expression through makeup. I saw right away all the elements that informed your look. The 1970s drew inspiration from the 1920s and the 1990s drew inspiration from the 1970s. You communicated all that through your makeup -adding your signature Edwardian & Victorian twist. Love it love it love it!
I had the Raven's Prophecy Tarot for years before reading the books. The deck did not require them. It read exceptionally well for me. Then, I read the books. I enjoyed them for what they were but not more than that. What I mean is that they did not leave an indelible mark. Although, this not entirely true. After reading the books, the imagery in the Tarot deck no longer belonged to me and my inner world. I now saw that fictional world and its characters in what for years was a reflection of my inner spiritual landscape. This ruined the deck for me and after a 7 year relationship with it, it no longer felt mine. I let it go.

Ooh, good point about the book to deck relationship. I would definitely get very fussy about that so I'll have to think that over! So glad you saw the make up references! ^_^ Squeee!

thanks for sharing this. The raven's prophesy speaks very much to the core of myself, and I have thought several times to maybe read the books, then argued myself out of it, be tempted again.... I will avoid that now for as long as I am sure I want to keep the deck.

I would highly recommend The Raven Boys series, it's terrific. I understand the desire to incorporate your aesthetic sensibilities into your witchcraft practice. I would say my aesthetic interests are very different from yours, but that the theory of exploration behind it is similar. I love Victorian aesthetics and I was a teen in the late 90's and I see these influences in how I don't have a real grimoire but a collection of little zines that I've made for myself that include thoughts on witchcraft and popular culture and folklore. I have mix CD's that are like personal soundtracks for when I'm doing spiritual work. I feel like these things are grounded in my 90's nostalgia but are also decorated in a very "gaslamp fantasy" blend of Victorian and witchy aesthetics that I love. I'm not sure if this speaks entirely to the point you were making, but these were all the things that I kept thinking of while watching your video. Also, I love your outfit!

Yes! Exactly! And I love the idea of tracking ideas in zines 🔥 Also 'gaslight fantasy' is a perfect descriptor 🥰

I hear you on growing up curvy in a time when that wasn't pleasing to society. Having recently in history (like what, 100 years prior?), it was IN fashion... sigh.
Cold cream is my go-to. I don't anymore but I've made my own and LOVE it. 😊
Is it weird that I thought of "death mistress" when you spoke of a bluish tinged lip balm. Ophelia frozen... 😅 I think I'd like that look. Lol.
And I couldn't agree more. Much of what we see in worlds and world views (modern and fantasy) conceptualized the everyday. What we may read or see in fantasy was them doing magic that was almost as a direct cause and effect of what was happening to them, right?!
Would you say that in regards to the "I've been left behind on trends" is witchy because we are setting the stage for legacy witchcraft which wouldn't have anything to do, necessarily, with trends in the grand scheme? Would the wizards have followed the trends of their time? Or would they "go their own way" because that's more their nature? Lol.
My whole philosophy is ROMO. Sometimes, I feel too tired to keep up, and largely I don't want to. I, like you, want the 'sit and chat' with someone feeling.
Awe. I hope you get your beasty someday. 🐾
Forgive the long comment. I'm going to hit you up soon as I obviously miss you. 😉

Oh, I hadn't thought of it like 'would the wizards have followed trends' - that is inspirational! 🤯🤯🤯 And yes, 'death mistress' is exactly it! I love that you made your own cold cream! 🥰 No worries on the long comment. It was lovely to read.

I always feel like I need to live comment on your videos but then I think that would be a total onslaught. 😂 The Raven's Prophecy is a great deck and one of my favorites. I watched Maggie's process with making the tarot way back when and it was so great to see. She's 100% a jack of all trades master of all. Her old blogposts are filled with recordings of her playing fiddles and whistles and drums and reciting poetry and her own fiction work - just the type of content i love. It's been such a long time since I read the Raven's Cycle, but for me having read it during a really difficult transitional summer actually added to the deck rather than taking away from it. One of the side characters has my name and is a tarot reader, so of COURSE i might be biased. I'm also unsure how the myth and folklore sections of the stories would hit you.
Also yes, glowy color on black reigns supreme. Especially in summer for some reason.

Love this comment! I definitely get the more personal aspect of relating to a story and connecting it with your experience of the deck. Puts me in the mood for re(x100)reading Hounds of the Morrigan actually... there's a 'tarot' reader in that ;)

I just...like you. ;) ( I might have more coherent thoughts later, no promises. If I do, I'll send them to you.)
