2112 is a 20 min song. This version is only giving you close to the first half of the song. In addition to the song, the story being told is awesome. May I suggest watching the cartoon version with lyrics to understand the story and hear the full song to truly appreciate it. Regardless, enjoyed the reaction, keep the Rush coming.

@@SENSEOFLIBERTY- The point of my post is to inform that the song is incomplete and to pay attention to the lyrics to understand the story. In no way am I slighting the band or the creators of this video. I'd have to check but I'm sure Rush has performed the song in its entirety for the most part live. I can understand if you are referring to finding the guitar section, but for the most part every part of the song can be done live. If you are referring to length, Rush concerts are 3 hrs long. I'm sure they could fit 2112 if they so wished to do it.

I had on mind only that every element of this piece must be performed exactly with same precision as it is in studio version. There is no way Geddy could sing so perfectly as he did in studio version. Even small change in the vocal part cause the significant loss to this piece of art.

2112 refers to the year 2112. It’s a story about a dystopian future in which music is outlawed among other things. That’s a simplification of the story. It’s quite an interesting story. The full song has 7 parts. They only played the first two parts in the clip you showed.

This live performance is only playing the first two songs, which doesn't get into the story. The best way to experience all of 2112 is to watch the animated (graphic novel) video of it. That tells the whole story in a way that shows a lot of the nuance of the story. 2112 is a year and the first song is the 2112 Overture. Almost at the end of the song, Alex plays a riff from Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture. Very cool.

These guys were SO creative and SO MUCH FUN!!! I still dig the fact that Geddy was apparently jealous of all the amplifiers that Alex always had on his side of the stage for his guitar....so: Geddy added DRYERS to his side of the stage to "even things out!!!" AMAZING that this much sound can come out of THREE PEOPLE!! GLAD you enjoyed IT! ❤❤❤❤❤

    You: "I just ignore the 🦍 & 🐔....."
    Me (still.... hours later) "🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂"
Most ppl ask "what's the deal with the Chicken, Gorilla, Popcorn Machine, Washing Machines, Rotisseries, etc?" 😆 But this is the FIRST Reaction where someone just came right out and basically said 🙄 "What Chicken? 😒 I see no Chicken."
There were always ..... 🤔.... "New things" to keep both the Band & Fans (especially old fans) "entertained". The 2 things it took me awhile to appreciate, absorb, and literally wrap my head around being a fan and seeing basically every NY/NJ/CT show were
    1. The Barbie Dolls holding up Signs all around Alex Foot Pedals: You'd get glimpses of them on the big screen & over head Monitors for those in the cheap seats. ☺I guess that's 1 way to get girls up front!
    2. The Chicken cooking chicken: I'd seen the guy in the Chicken Suit, seen the Rotisseries/Popcorn Machines... 😳 But to see the Giant Chicken come out and start Basting the Chickens in the Rotisseries actually made my head 🤯
And yes, I'm probably still laughing at your comment as you read this. 🤣🤣🤣🥰🐰

When I heard Rush with the album "Hemispheres" for the first time (long ago) i was blown away. The lyrics from Neil Pearth (R.I.P) have something in common with Tuomas (Nightwish) way of poëtic writing,i'm still a big fan of Rush. Only saw them once live in Rotterdam (netherlands) and they had also a big following here. All 3 of them are/were masterfully musicians and Geddy's voice goes thru marrow and bone. I know you Like Floor to and if Floor ever would do a cover of Rush,i think,it would be "Closer to the hart".
Keep listening to Rush, they have so much great songs . Greetings from Spain.👍🤘

This album was the point when they took total control of their art.
The record company had demanded an album of short, radio friendly songs.
They responded with a 20+ minute masterpiece with different movements and musical styles that told a complex story with multiple characters.
The fans loved it and it became their best release to date. All without radio promotion. Just word of mouth
The record company never told them what to do again.
The last line of the song....
    "We have assumed control."
Please do the comic book full version video. You will love it.

I was so happy when I finally found this album with the comic book included. Took me years to finally have my hands on it.
Rush' music asks some investment, like most prog. That's also why people shy away from it, too complicated for them to follow. Most people hear music, but don't listen to it. People, like my co-workers, look to me as if I'm crazy when I say I sit down and listen to an album. Only then can you fully immerse yourself. And with headphones even better.

  • @lindaward5376

When you listen to 2112 in full, you may notice how closely the storyline parallels thier battle with record execs threatening to drop them after their third album if they didn't come up with more short, radio-friendly songs; they decided that if they were going to crash and burn, they might as well do it in grand style, so they came out with a 7 part, 20 minute, side-long epic masterpiece whose success gave them the freedom to chart their own musical course. And BTW, 2112 is 9:12 PM - the time showing on the cover of their album Clockwork Angels - in 24 hour format, reperesenting Neil's 9-12 (September 12) birthday. Great reaction, looking forward to you hearing 2112 in full!

Yeah I agree with the previous comment, in my humble opinion 2112 as a first time listen should be experienced off the studio album. Fun story.... I had to go to the drug store to pick up a prescription. On the way, I decided to play something I hadn't heard in a while and popped my 2112 CD into the car stereo (yes, my older car plays CDs). I blasted the CD at high volume during my drive to the store. When I picked up the prescription, the clerk rang it up and said "That'll be twenty-one twelve." I grinned, told her that was the album I was just listening to, and schooled her on it. :D You really should check out the studio version. It's considered classic prog-rock, is the album that cemented them as a truly professional band, and is generally considered something everyone must listen to at some point. The suite is some of rock's finest works.

No 2112, No Rush as we know them now. I believe the story is on the Beyond The Lighted Stage documentary. You really need to see this. When it first came out, I was playing it, and my then 12 year old very non-Rush, very flavor of the day, daughter came in the room and after a few minutes made me re-start it. The latest documentary, Time Stand Still, is another must-see. Lets you appreciate the band on another level which IMO is even greater than their music. I thought it should have been called A Farewell to Kings, but that would have given the ending ( which we all saw coming ) away.
Saw the look on your faces when the chicken came out... The crew was always trying to make the boys upfront laugh...
