Aurora was inspired to write this song after a dream, saying in an interview:
“Black Water Lilies was a dream I had. The melody was playing in the background. And I was dreaming that there was a hand, and I grabbed it, and it took me underwater. And there was a river, unter the water, running down. And I floated on the river, under the water, and I came to this magic place with lots of black water lilies - floating on the water - which was underneath the water. It was a very strange dream. When I woke up I ran straight to the piano and wrote the song.”

She's like fiction. Beautiful, strange, mysterious, addicting, captivating. She's so amazing and each time I hear her music I'm like, Why is there such a perfect person on this Earth? It's like that woman.. I cannot remember her name but I remember what she did. She bought a piece of art that she thought was too perfect. She went home and threw it out the window and it broke. She did that because she didn't think he works deserved something so perfect. That's what I feel whenever I hear Aurora's voice.

Part of the reason I loved conqueror was because of a video of her performing it on Jimmy Fallon. Whenever she moved her arms or just danced, I would get this amazing feeling that made me dance along. It was a feeling that reminded me of why I love Aurora so much. I love her songs not just for the songs but for her, too.

the coolest thing recently happened to me. i had a dream about floting on a beautiful river, turquoise water and blue skies, with lush green plants on the side. this song was playing in the background as i floated down. every time i got to rapids it was like someone reached out for me and pulled me under, but i could still breathe, and it was like there was a whole other land under the water. and once the rapids were done i would surface and there would be thousands of black lilies. eventually i got to a waterfall and fell down it, except it was more like i was gently placed down instead of falling. and there was a large, deep pool of water where all the water from the river gathered. i floated there and thought to myself, “this would’ve been the most beautiful dream ever”. and then i woke up and it was a dream, which was kind of sad 😅. but i rarely listened to this song and the fact that aurora also based it off of a dream she had which sounds very similar to mine, is kind of crazy. this song was playing the entire time in the background. i’ll never forget that dream, i truly felt at peace then 💙

I was so depressed and so sad that i missed you concert this year in october which i regret :'(. This is still one of the most beautiful songs. I hope another time i will be there. I just listened to this whole album in my back yard durring quarinten. I am very lucky to have a backyard. I climed a tree, and daned around (I'm pretty sure some of my nabours could see me, and judged me but w/e.) So I'm very glad Aurora wrote music so good I felt compelled to actually go outside, and not melt into a quarenteen induced funk for 4 months.

i remember hearing 3:27 for the first time the night the album came out in complete darkness and with my headphones on full blast. i cried it was so beautiful.
All of Aurora songs have great depth and seem to have many layers and probably tell different stories to each person as they interpret them through themselves for me on one level both black water lilies and underwater are related to baptism not just washing away sin more like freeing yourself from who you were so that you can be born a new. But I feel there is much more than that going on in these songs.❤
