Nothing like a freshly plowed garden
One of the reasons I have always enjoyed your videos is you show a good cross section of your regional growing conditions from soil to weather and what it takes to keep things growing. It's good to see what others realistically deal with when growing, both the good and the bad, life is about learning from others of the same mind no matter the subject, everyone has something to contribute, you just have to be willing to listen.
I do make a point to show we’re I’m struggling, partly because of subscribers like you and others have such a vast knowledge that can help me and are always so willing to. Thanks for watching.

I like the way you were plowing your corn with the single plow on each side of the row. When I used to plow my corn i used two plow’s on each side of the row. Lots of good information available in your videos Joey. The camera work and commentary are first class IMO. I’m barely starting to work on/tinker with my Farmall’s. I had an outstanding day on one tractor. I was able to do a repair that made me feel like a hero. When I bought this home/property it came with approximately 400 feet of aluminum irrigation sections and a trash can full of heads. The pump is super heavy electric with pickup out of the river. As dry as parts of the lawn is it might be time to sort that stuff out. Probably get busted for using river water with my luck. Lol. That was 38 years ago, and it had set unused for 10-15 years before. Thanks for being so down to earth Joey. Good luck with your bible studies.

it will take several months for lime to raise ph. i use to string fishing line in an x pattern over my newly planted corn of 6 rows when i planted 8 or more also added an h pattern. this worked well to keep crows from pulling up corn. they were afraid of getting caught i guess.
That’s a good thought. It does seem to get better as time goes on.
We did the exact same thing last year except we just did a perimeter around our garden with hi vis green 30lb test. The crows were destroying until we did that . Soon as we did, they didn't mess with it anymore at all. It was wild.

Thanks for posting. Just got my great grandfathers Cub and a pile of cultivator stuff but no idea how to set it up. This video helped a lot. Busy cleaning it all up and painting everything. Cleaned and coated gas tank and put fresh gas and it fired off first crank after sitting 10 years. Good video and thanks again.
Congratulations on being able to get the cub. You will enjoy it. I never owned one but I would like to one day.

Hey Joey, we finally got a good rain this afternoon from up Archdale way! I was beginning to wonder if it was going to play out before it reached us but it came on slow and steady with not much wind! Everything has held it's own so far but we really were needing this for our corn to make and for our peas to come up that I planted over a week ago! We've been getting plenty of squash ( 4-kinds ) and okra. God is good either way and his timing is always perfect! He always knows what we need....we just have to trust Him! Drip irrigation has been a game changer for my garden. Little more cost on the front end, but worth every penny.

I think you're talking about the bar type "oscillating sprinkler". I have good luck with those too because I can control what I water better than the Rainbird type. It saves water and puts more where you want it. But I would recommend a soil test so you'll know which way you need to go as far as amendments. We haven't done one in 5 or 6 years ourselves, so we need to do another one too. Otherwise we might be going 180 degrees in the wrong direction. 😆Thanks for your time and efforts.

Already picked out all my cukes, and one patch of silver queen. It's so dry and got here! The county sent me a letter telling me they thought I had a water leak - no, I've just got three garden patches needing water and a pasture of cows each drinking 20 gallons a day. I enjoy it though. I don't much care for squash either. Probably going to plant some more silver queen and more green beans for a fall crop.

@@Jtwes I got lucky last year planting in August - picked and put up cobs in the freezer on Nov 1. This year I'm planting a lot sooner. Like, next week sooner.
We used to call those type plow points wings and I've also heard some people call the twisters. I've used them in the past but pretty much just use disks now. I just got another good rain and I hope y'all do as well.

Get a concrete block and zip tie that oscillating sprinkler to it. It’ll get the sprinkler 8” higher and the sprinkler won’t move around as it’s watering.

I’ll be driving through Ohio on the way to Michigan Thursday. I really don’t do anything extra. Yes Lord He Loves us dearly.
When you're cultivating your corn with straight shanks on the front beams like you're doing, particularly that close to the plant, you're pruning the roots that seek water in the balk of the row. You're too close to the plant. A better plan I believe is to use your rolling cultivators which in addition to destroying all weeds in a wide band on each side of your plants, they will both throw up dirt to the center (the corn), covering any weed growth between the plants that you're leaving now. Plus the hilled up or thrown up dirt covers the corn slightly higher and doesn't get close to the roots. The corn with the dirt around it is supported and more stable as it grows, making it less likely to topple in a wind. On veggies that you bend over to pick, if they've been hilled up with rolling cultivators, they'll be 4 inches higher and easier to pick.

Thanks for watching. I prefer to use my rolling cultivators, I was just showing what could be done without them. As far as close to the plant you could be right . I’ve seen some old timers say you need to move the plant around to make it grow . I don’t know? I don’t think it bothers them when there small but I wouldn’t run them that close when there bigger. The sprinkler may not actually save water, it may just be that the twirly sprinkler doesn't put out as many GPH?
Like that other subscriber said the best option would be some drip tape. That gets into the wallet a little though. Lol

make sure u water your spuds, makes them holey inside or brown holes with liquid inside that when u try and have a baked spud it explodes in ur oven and stinks up your whole house.

Speed makes all the difference on how much dirt gets thrown into the row.
Are those rear sweeps supposed to have that much nose down angle?
When I see them used on big field cultivators they are set to run very flat and shallow, just to cut the weeds off of their roots, and avoid mixing the soil. But that is in a place with dry growing seasons, where it is important to keep the dry soil on top to protect the damp soil from evaporation, and weeds mixed in are more likely to resprout, those on top dry out and die.
I’m not sure. I purposely run mine deep. I’ve always liked soft middles
@@Jtwes I know sweeps are sold in several shank angles, but I always thought that was to match the cultivator brand. Never thought to purposely get them with a different angle.
I'd like for you to keep wearing those boots so we can see how they hold up. Glad to here they are comfortable, but will they last?

I have been wondering this for awhile as I hear you mention your wife's name on and off. I watched the Canning video and only got part way through, but heard you talking about her picking beans calling her Leano (spelling???) And then again say her name. This is what's confusing me I thought the T in JTWES was her initial? I am going to assume Leano is maybe a nickname?

That’s a good question I’m not sure because I’ve been hitting it with fertilizer and nitrogen. I’m not sure if it would skew the results.
I have never seen side plows like that for front cultivators
