Parrot Chat While I Preen Pin Feathers | No More Bird Community Drama For Me | Summer Birdie Fun

  • Summer is here and the birds love being outside with us! Always supervise your bird when outdoors and use a harness on them if they will accept wearing it. We are loving life with our birds and other pets. As a reminder, keep away from negative drama especially with the pet and bird community online. Don't judge others by if they bought a pet from a breeder or supported a rescue. It is their personal choice and if they can learn to care for the animal properly, let's show them LOVE.
    Rescue and adoption is a great first choice but do not feel ashamed if you choose otherwise and continue to be a good pet parent. I am here to give you education information & positive parrot care examples on wherever your pet came from. Don't forget to check out & SUBSCRIBE to our homestead channel called Texas Unicorns. I post a lot there!!!

    Ty . For saying that about wings . Sometimes I feel so bad clipping their wings , but with them inside its so dangerous . Ty for your honesty . Peace thats what I want as well just to enjoy my life with my family , my birds and pups .

      I’m with ya sista. Most do not flight train their parrot and as a bird owner for over 25 years, it’s just not practical for the average pet bird owner. I think it’s great but overall I can have a happy and healthy bird without flight training. The key is supervision and I fully support bird harnesses. Ruby and Cairo don’t wear one as they would get tangled in it as they swing. You’re doing great, enjoy life and your birds in the safest way you can provide. 🤗

    I LOVE those swings, need to make a couple of those. We use harnesses on our black cockatoos. The male loves it cause he knows he's about to go outside but his girlfriend kicks up all kinds of fuss LOL

    @johngoose1497 Před 4 lety +5

    It's not so bad trimming wings if they've been done since a baby. But when people trim the older bird's that's when they get angry & upset, then they can't tame them. You're doing parrot rescue, you could do parrot holidays, so people can leave their parrot when they go on holiday, there must be a few more parrots living in Texas🐦

    • @loveyourparrot_
      @loveyourparrot_  Před 4 lety

      LOL, yes I do pet sit sometimes in other people's homes. I agree, a bird that is use to flying would not do well with trimmed wings and their mental well-being would be damaged from it.

      Not the bigger birds because they are never by each-other since they don’t really like to be close to them. I’ve had some bad bird accidents with birds biting other toes & beaks ect…my smaller birds that have a friend do preen each-other.

    What kind of wood is the outdoor perch and how did you treat it? Do they chew on it?

    • @loveyourparrot_
      @loveyourparrot_  Před 3 lety +1

      It is untreated wood that we had extra of in the barn. It is various colors because some is older. No, they don’t chew on it since they are busy swinging but some birds might. Untreated, natural wood is what mine is. The swing perch is from a mesquite tree.

    • @loveyourparrot_
      @loveyourparrot_  Před 3 lety +1

      Also, we don’t leave it outside..we bring it into our indoor building each night. It rains a lot here and would probably not hold up well.

  • @rainpuppet
    @rainpuppet Před 3 lety

    just so other people can know, if your bird hates the harness/isnt harnessed trained, you can put them in a carrier to bring them outside! its very important for birds to get vitamin D from the sunlight outside. personally i dont believe in clipping wings just to take them outside, but it is a controversial topic, and i'm pretty sure its okay for your purpose of wanting to keep her safe!

    Take any advice or warning from the bird community with a scoop of salt, especially when it comes to behavioral issues as a ton of "experts" base their claims on anecdote alone. Sometimes they stuff they expound might as well be spooky voodoo shamanism.
    Also theirs alot of Gatekeeping in the bird enthusiast world so when they give you your opinion they'll be sure to make you feel like literal human garbage for good measure
