When Hisoka said "Am I allowed to kill him" he did a hand gesture that is called "The Fig" which means "Screw you" indicating that hisoka wanted to R*pe Killua. That's why Illumi got Furious and blood thirsty.

It's a double entendre. The verb he used in the sentence means to do, which in context can mean both kill and have a sexual connotation. He used the same phrase when referring to fighting chrollo since he gets off on fighting people. He probably did it for emphasis so that Illumi would be more likely to believe Hisoka is serious.

Things you should probably be aware of now that you've finished or are finishing:
-Anime ends at chapter 339, It caught up to the manga at this point. The author doesn't release very often, we've only got 51 chapters since the anime finished in 2014.
-Kurapika is the main protagonist of the current arc, which is an in depth dialogue heavy arc (so far it's mainly been build up) with a lot of potential to be the greatest HxH arc. Even better than Yorknew and Chimera.
-The way the release schedule is by Togashi for the manga, we may not see another anime adaptation for 5-10 years atleast.
-They did not stop because HxH wasn't popular

Hisoka's nen is one of the best powers in the show. Especially because it shows the audience that even powers with simple functions cause be insanely powerful if combined with creativity and quick thinking. For me it made it easier to get on board with all the other nen abilities cause hisoka was still wrecking everyone with his, only ever using "Texture Surprise" for mind games.
The manga's much more brutal/harsher, & with the anime adaptation they (really) tried to tone it down (or atleast on the first seasons 'cause chimera ant arc was, you know,) being a shounen genre and all. So in the manga, Hisoka actually asked Illumi if he can screw him (rape) and kill him after(?) That explains why Illumi got so mad, his bloodthirst just oozed out without him meaning it. See Hisoka's hand sign when he asks Illumi, it actually has a NSFW meaning - that was a subtle hint in the anime because they just can't simply suggest phedophilia on a "kids/teen" show.

It actually may have been a mistake that Killua didn't tell his family about Alluka in total. If the father at least understood I'm sure he could have trained her to be a good assassin or at least control over her power and by being closer she would have never asked her own family for anything like how she does with Killua.
