I don't know if you're being ironic or not, but I do like how Big is just an normal guy in a world full of action heroes, super villains, gods etc.
Yep, I will tell the truth and that I wouldn't save the world if I was a character in the game, all I would care about is explore, have my phone, listen to music, possibly have a donut at a local shop, that's pretty much why Big is the perfect character because he's more relatable than anyone else, Babylon Rogues included because while they want to steal treasure, they have actual Hoverboards and a fancy Ship which is not at all relatable.

Those ears of his are literally my favorite thing about him

I love Big. He's just a nice change of pace from the others - who I also have varying levels of great love and great meh towards. He's just a big, friendly guy who wants to fish with his best friend in peace. He flew a plane without any (known?) previous knowledge how and appears willing to lend a hand even in dire circumstances. Seems like he's be a pretty cool friend, tbh. The only drama Big is going to drag you into is his missing pet and maybe a surplus of fish.
I am also fairly fond of Big. Honestly, if his story seems detached from the rest of the story, that's because it IS. Big is a civilian, basically. He's only tangentially relevant. But he's doing his best to achieve his own, meager goal. His life was adversely affected by Eggman and Chaos, and he's literally just trying to vibe with his pet frog. That's why he is in the game
Big the Cat actually IS a pretty interesting character. Preach, Chaomix.
If they do an SA1 remake though, they should probably tweak the fishing to be less buggy. Also, add a bestiary for the fish you can catch. It would motivate people to explore and catch extra fish in stages like Enerald Coast and Hot Shelter.
I would just watch videos on my phone and walk around the city, exploring and doing & seeing things if I was in Sonic Adventure lol

I can't say Big is my favourite character in Sonic, or even Sonic Adventure... because E-102 Gamma exists, and he just kind of sweeps every award ceremony.
But Big gets a worthy place on the podium with Gamma and the Doc.

EDIT: here's a little known secret you might enjoy. play sadx, and get into action stage 00, hedgehog hammer through a glitch or hack with a character not supposed to be there. with Amy you can't look up, and there is a barrier over the light. when glitching in, you can successfully look up. And the Abyss stares back.
