Today, I went to an ulu island in Singapore, located in the southernmost part of Singapore, called Lazarus Island. I went fishing, flew a drone, and even took a dip at Lazarus Beach. The beaches in the Southern Islands are extremely clear and are fantastic places to relax, camp, and even fish. The reefs around the islands are healthy and teeming with life. I'll share with you how to get to this island by ferry at the bottom of the description!
Singapore's Southern Islands constitute a planning region comprising a cluster of islets situated within Singapore's Central Region. The islets within this planning area include Kusu Island, Lazarus Island, Pulau Seringat, Pulau Tekukor, Saint John's Island, Sentosa, and the two Sisters' Islands, with a combined land area of approximately 5.58 square kilometers (2.15 sq mi).
The Sentosa Development Corporation managed the development and upkeep of these offshore islets south of Singapore from 1976 until March 2017 when it was returned to the Singapore Land Authority. The Southern Islands planning area is situated along the Singapore Straits, south of the Bukit Merah mainland planning area, and shares a maritime boundary with the Western Islands planning area.
How to get to Lazarus island / Kusu Island:
1) Buy ticket from Marina South Ferries, booking via Klook is cheaper.
www.klook.com/en-SG/activity/...
2) Head to Marina South Pier (Red Line), Show Klook booking & ride the ferry.
3) Note: Buy lunch before entering the island, as there aren't any eateries there. Bring a lot of water if you are plan to walk all of southern islands!
How to Catch a Coral Trout?
1) Having the right tackle is crucial. I recommend using a medium to medium-heavy rod that is 9 to 10 feet long for casting distance and a strong backbone. A reel size of 4000-5000 provides strong drag (which must be locked when jigging), and a thick line of 50-60 lb with a leader of +10 lb over the main line is ideal. Groupers are incredibly strong on the initial strike and should not be underestimated.
2) While baiting is effective, using an artificial lure is much more fulfilling and exciting. In this instance, I used a Z-man CurlyTailZ (Nuked Pilchard color) and managed to land one while navigating through patches of seaweed.
3) Patience and hard work are essential. Targeting coral trout from shore requires effort; you will need to move around and search for the fish instead of waiting for them to come to you. With enough luck and determination, you can land yourself a prized catch.

Very great video.
Your videos were taken with nice camera angles and compositions.
I can learn a lot from your videos.
ありがとうございましたしちさん。 あしたは妻と日本にいきます!沖縄釣りにいく!
@@sadfool Great!! I look forward to your fishing videos in Okinawa. Enjoy your trip to Japan!
nice fish as well as thanks for including how to get there
Thanks buddy, appreciate the comments 🙏
Good eating fish james.. powerrr!!!! keep it up man!!!
Thank you bro - keep casting 🎣
Nice one James. Never give up!
Thank you friend, been quite lucky in fishing these days 🍀
Honestly I'm torn about all the developments on the island. On one hand it would be nice to have a couple places to spend the night and some restaurants, but on the other hand it would be nice to keep them as natural and undeveloped as possible.
Couldn’t have said it better. The big guys is going to milk this place and we might not see the same thing I’ve filmed on this day. 😢
Good prize catch 🎉
Thank you friend, it was indeed a prized catch ☺️
Great video
Thank you Jason, enjoyed making this one. Do share it around 🙏
Great video
Planning to go there this weekend for overnight fishing + camping
Any recommend spot?
Thank you in advance
The water facing Kusu Island has squid, don’t need to cast too far out, they’re hiding by the reef. For pelagics big fish, I recommend the linkway between stjohn and Lazarus island. Current there is fast and has a lot of snag spots. Use a long rod (shore jigging rod) if possible
@@sadfool Thank you
@@sadfool I'm there fr Saturday morning to Sunday morning
I'm playing after the link way near a small beach with a blue tent
Do feel free to drop by for coffee if u happen to drop by
@@edwardkhoo234unfortunately this weekend I’ve 1 offshore trip, and Sunday running some errands. There’s a high chance Ryantiotio will be there 😁

What’s stopping you man?
@@sadfool school 🥲
@@EshFhyx332study hard bro, I studied reasonably hard and now I have time to fish. Invest in your future 👊👌
@@sadfool thx for motivating me
Sorry James, I need to know how many hours you spend there to catch that Grouper. I want to gauge my patience. 😉
I spent 30minutes, it’s all about the tackle and knowing the best tide to go. This video is not chronological. I caught the fish in the morning, went to swim in the noon. Flew the drone 2 weeks later
hey james wanna get your advice if my current setup is good enough to fish at lazarus. Rod: Shimano vengeance 6.6ft medium power. Reel: Twinpower 4000XG with 40lb mainline and 60lb leader.
also kinda new to luring but do you have to set drag to max when jigging?
@@DOMINOES369 the rod is very short (less casting range = less area scanning) to go for shore jigging, but you can try playing for reef fishes near the break waters. I believe there are big groupers hiding in the reef that aren’t caught yet. I suggest using weedless rig to prevent getting stuck as well. And yes if you’re after groupers, you should set to max drag, for pelagics (not too tight)
Ayoooo why so handsome bro 😍🔥🔥 hotter than the sun siol
Hahaha thx QF, my number one fan bro 🥰😘
