thats information Ive seen fishing and fish caught but here you learn how to fish how someone successful catches, useses his equipment and where and why. you learn more in 20 min than you will in a year on the water. As always thank you very much for quality content.
Glad you enjoyed it!!
This video just 🤯. Can’t wait to try this 👍🎣
Nice method for jigging trout. Appreciate the info on equipment setup as well 👍
Any time!
Going lake trout fishing soon, glad you mentioned some tips to protect the well-being of the fish! 👍🏻
Very welcome!
Awesome stuff! Can't wait to go out & try this again. Also, nice shirt, way to rep the Ditch Pickle -- this year was our 11th consecutive. One of the best weekends of the summer.
Rock on!
Fantastic tutorial!! I'm going lake trout with my brother next weekend, but I'm not expert. I don't have a livescope, but I have the deeper sonar that might be able to see a trout follow my lure. Great tips, and great video!! 👍
Good luck and be patient! The deeper sonar will work!
Finally a good teaching video.
Glad you think so!
Excellent information
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you very much
Any time
exactly what i teach my clients on our charters. sometimes the mood of our fish can vary and necessitate a really slow movement with the trolling motor…like .4 mph so the bait is just creeping along horizontal when they don’t want to chase.
Interesting I'll have to try that. If I'm around 60 fow I'll just cast and work it back
@@BendItFishing the slow troll is so slow the bait stays vertical and i can see it on the mega live to react to fish
Pretty cool I'll have to give it a shot. Weird question for you do you have clients watch the sonar when they are jigging or just jig blind?
John Gaulke who operates Finger Lakes Angling Zone in NY taught me this method in about 2007. Great way to catch lakers in the finger lakes. He learned it from a fellow named Toby.
I've been meaning to make it out that way!
Nice
Thanks
Here in NY on days that the fish wont commit, we actually do catch them pounding the mud. We also do that ice fishing. Turn off the sonar and just fish the bottom blindly.
I remember when I first discovered the cadence, I caught 12 trout in a 30 minute span that my buddies in my group caught 0.
Its not something that most anglers want to hear, but fishing bottom without sonar does definitely produce as long as you mix the cadence constantly and dont repeat motions.
Makes sense, it's what people have been doing for years. I also feel like Lakers can get weary around sonar noise.
are you using an Airmar transducer for 2D?
No, the livescope XR has a built in 2d transducer
by chance, is that location on Superior out of Marquette?
No it's not
What thickness of fluorocarbon do you use for lake trout leaders?
20 # for these size lakers
I’ve tried jigging for lake trout a couple times from a kayak with no luck. I don’t have any kind of sonar. Is it worthwhile to keep trying that or do I really need sonar to go for them when they are that deep?
I you can without a sonar but try this trick. Use a heavy lure pound it on bottom a few times then slowly reel it to the surface. What that is is starting a chase and you should get hit on the way up. Both Garmin and Deeper make cheap sonars that attach to you phone for like 130$ they are worth it
You can catch them without sonar, but it makes finding them so easy.
You don't need a 400-1200 sonar.
You can get something like a garmin striker 4 for like $150 and set it up. (I used a pvc pipe to attach the transducer through a supper hole in the back) I fish from a lifetime kayak and my sonar let's me catch kokanee salmon. It can see fish as deep as 150 feet too.
Sounds like a good setup! Livescope just helps with more than one line in the water and finding the fish
Been fishing lakers my whole life with spinning reels. Time to switch to a bait caster setup, would you mind sharing what you’re using in this video? Reel and size? Thanks
I use the abu Garcia revo SX with the fastest retrieve they make and have it spooled all the way with 15 # braid. Rod is a heavy rod by abu as well they don't make anymore
Appreciate the info, thanks!
I fish a smaller lake packed with whitefish. I can't tell trout from whitefish on my panoptix. Not livescope btw.
I haven't seen whitefish on livescope so I can help ya. I know white fish are harder to hook
Nice shirt 😉 #fishthepickle
Can you catch lake trout without the glow lure ?
You can and I do use none glow baits sometimes. But I have found the deeper you are fishing the more it helps
Thank you, sir !
Welcome
You want to go commercial fishing? Could collab been offering...
Don't have the time but thank you
I’m looking for a longer butt rod like yours ,7ft 6 inch heavy but you didn’t say the brand name . I have all your products and enjoy all your videos,
Also more about reel size and brand, THANKS
The rod is the abu Garcia vendetta which they don't make anymore. The reel is abu Garcia revo SX. I did just buy a gloomis gcx with a long but section that I do like
Thank you very much
How do multiple people fish out of the same boat? Separate finders?
I am running livescope XR off the back with another guy and one person is using another screen with a 2d transducer off the bow
A baitcast reel is superior to a spinning reel for vertical jigging all sizes of lake trout. To take it one step further, a baitcast reel with a "flippin' switch"(FS) is the best. With the FS engaged you don't have to turn the reel handle to engage the reel from freespool, just let go of the thumb bar. This allows you to effectively drop down with one hand, a huge advantage if you are using a hand-held remote to control the bow mount trolling motor. When dropping with a spinning reel, the line comes off the reel in coils, much like a very elongated spring. Lines comes off a casting reel perfectly straight. Straight line is a direct connection to your jig. Lower the jig with the rod right at the water's surface, when the spool stops turning IMMEDIATELY engage the reel and set the hook. If it was bottom, no harm no foul. If it was a fish hitting on the way down, you got 'em. The line coils from a spinning reel gives the much more time to spit the lure.
All very true and bait casters are more ergonomic
I like the Okuma convector 354 or 163 they have the flipping switch, more or less. In combination with a line counter. I have a xxh St Croix with a 354 that I use for tubes, Bondy's and Fuzzy Duzzits for muskies.
A flipping switch is a pansy button
I ordered the jigs but nobody has gotten back to me
They are made to order and need to cure for 24 hours before shipping. They should go out today. Thanks for your order.
@@BendItFishing could you put some of that glow liquid in it so I can try it.,ty
Everything in the Big Bait Kit glows you'll be all set!
Great video!
When I am jigging the bottom, I am of the mindset of a crawfish, not a bait fish. I agree that making long sweeping jigging motions aren't natural. But making small taps in the mud are more in tune to what a crawdad might do(in my mind). While I do catch a lot of fish doing the 'dump and chase', more fish seem to come from doing the 'mud cloud'. Obviously, there are a ton of variables and from day to day.
Love jigging for Lakers and have zero interest in any other types of fishing (from a boat)
Great channel! I just subbed.
Thanks for the follow! I'll do taps in the mud if I'm impatient. There are a few species of fish that hand out on the mud like burbot and sculpin that Lakers love
Love your comment there. At times when they require a more finesse way to be caught I def do light taps and 99% of the time I will get a hit, but man fishing June, July and then fall again. I just love how aggressive these fish chase bait! Great video, I have a lake trout addiction and a goal to watch EVERY laker youtube video. Subbed! :D @@BendItFishing
Gotta love those Lakers each one that comes in is different thanks for watching!!
@@BendItFishing absolutely I was on a trip a month ago my buddy kept catching them finesse all my catches were chases from bottom all the way to the boat!
Haha it's how it goes! Same with my buddy and I if he's on the deeper side he'll catch more fish
What technique would you suggest to someone who doesn't use a fish finder? I was planning on using navionics for the depht chart and try my best to find them but if I can't see anything like you are on your "I don't know how much K$$$" fish finder you use, what can I do? Thanks
I would find humps on navionics and cast off the top and let it hit bottom. Jig it vertical a few times and reel it to the surface and repeat
@@BendItFishing thanks for the tips! I just catch my first laketrout 👌
