Outstanding!! BRAVO!! magnificent work brother 👏 hands down the best how to video on the ls rear main seal by far. I love the simplicity and the work smarter not harder mindset. Looking forward to seeing more content from you sir. way to show these people the right way to attack a over complicated process and simplify the process with minimal tools and effort. Keep up the outstanding work my guy. 💪
Excellent! I knew this was possible without pulling the tranny all the way. I'm in the middle of doing mine. Pulling the transmission back tomorrow. Got all the bell housing bolts off along with the torque converter bolts and cross member this afternoon. Just need to pull the lines and im ready to push it back. Thanks for the video. 👍
@@artysmotorsports ok thanks. I will figure a way to strap it to the jack plate before pulling it back. I'm just using a modified floor jack but built a large resting plate out of a 2x8. I will probably pull down the trans crossmember down on one side until i clear the single center stud then put the member back up to have more stability.
@@artysmotorsports Your tip helped. I had a dog chain hooked up to the side pan lip and screwed that to the 2x8 plate. I saw it rotate a hair before the chain tensioned up. Got it pulled back enough without even disconnecting the lines. I knew they would have enough play. 👍
@@artysmotorsports Got it done. Holy cr@p that was alot of work. But it was worth it. Now i got everything fixed on my Tahoe... i fixed my front ac blower, rear blower, visor, rear main, new oil pan, gear selector display and order a new Blaupunkt double din stereo-cd/dvd player...
Man, that sure is some gnarly looking welding on that exhaust pipe!..was looking for a video like this, because I don't have any fancy shop with a lift and so on to do this in.. good job :)
thanks for showing this video, I dont have the tools at the moment to do it but its nice to see how to reach that spot cause I got a oil leak and its not the oil pan gasket unfortunately
Great video bro, thanks. Why cant more vids be this straightforward and bs free... Absolutely great big help to show the hoe's guts, and great attitude, if you think its that easy that makes me feel better.
I fw your video bud I just got an 06 Yukon Denali awd and the shop wants 1800 to do it I know I could do it just didn’t wanna pull the trans and everything
I got a 2wd so mine will definitely be easier but I get the just of what you were doing, I’m ready to knock it out but so much time for a 42 dollar gasket🤣😂
Not looking forward to this but gotta be done with the trans pan gasket. Did you support the engine or did it hold its place when the tyranny slid back
I have a 2005 Yukon 5.3L 4x4. Looks exactly the same. I may have a very slow rear main leak. I just got it and am watching it now after a fresh oil change. Has 216,000 miles on it. Seems to run great though. 3 questions: 1. Was there a cover on your inspection hole that shows the bottom of the flex plate? Mine does not have a cover of any type. I can see the bottom of the flex plate. 2. I have a pair of ramps that raises vehicles back or front tires by about 12". Would that be helpful to use for this job? 3. So the rear seal has two parts? A shaft seal, plus a shaft seal cover gasket?
I don't remember if I had an inspection cover. I've seen a rubber or metal one on a few of these. Ramps may depend on the height of your yukon mine seemed to be slightly higher in the rear so the jack stands basically leveled it. Yes the rear main seal cover has a gasket and the rear main seal is installed on the cover so technically two parts.
@artysmotorsports i didn't notice a gasket at the bottom of the plate. Is it just metal to metal across the bottom? It's not supposed to hold oil I assume, if it's leaking from the rear main, right? More or less just a dust cover?
@artysmotorsports also, I think mine is leaking from the oil cooler line mounting point. There is a gasket there that's known to leak down, and ends up on the filter and even the back and bottom area were the inspection hole is...that general area. I had oil on my filter, but it was tight.
@artysmotorsports so by design, if the plate cover seal and oil pan gasket don't leak, oil could build up in that small area if the round main seal is leaking?
Bro, started this video by saying “it’s not that hard”😂😂 Way too advanced for me. Looks like I’m paying somebody.
Did you? How much did it cost?
I just bought the seal and oil. I'd say between 150-200 bucks
It's easy to someone with basic mechanical knowledge and ability.
This is the best way I’ve seen without doing too much unnecessary stuff. Thanks for this video!!!

Beautiful video production of a very difficult area. Thank you for your effort.

Awesome video thanks man about to start fixing mine asap it's pouring oil out of it

Be careful. The trans will want to rotate clockwise when you pull it away from the engine. 👌

You got it
Man, I thought I was about to be the only one looking at that crazy ass world on that exhaust
Best video on this subject I've seen so far. Doesn't look like your seal was leaking though.
It got really bad, you could tell after a long drive the undercarriage was covered with oil. Good rust prevention now that I think about it
@@artysmotorsports, that's funny. That's what I thought about mine too!
Very informative ty gd work

Becareful under vehicle if you decide to do it yourself
@@artysmotorsports will do thank you
Exactly the way I did a Tahoe and a Silverado. Used an air ratchet get them bolts out quick with so little space.
That'd be really helpful I think.
@@artysmotorsports at the moment I'm doing my 3rd rear main seal on a family members tahoe halfway done 😁. Great vid 👍.

Yeah it's pricey. Honestly if it's not leaking too bad I'd just ride it out add oil every now and then

It's unbelievable... don't get me started on 6cyl bmw valve cover gasket.
Awesome video, and explanation.
Can you tell about how long this job, in this method, will take to complete in one go?
I'd say you can have it done in a weekend if everything goes right.
I got stuck on the y pipe, I couldn't get the bolt loose to pull the tyranny back. So now I'm here for another solution.
it would have been awesome to show these steps as you were doing it.
I agree. A more detailed video would've been ideal belive me when I tell you I tried. There's not much room to work and record at the same...
Hi nice video but couple questions.
Did you have to remove shifter cable and take T- dip stick out?
You can I would suggest you remove both so you don't damage anything. It's fairly simple
I wonder if I can do this on my 08 Chevy Tahoe pretty sure it’s the same setup
It's possible. Be careful if you decide to do it.
Mine was the sensor on rear of the engine the way the oil puddles it looked just like a rear main
Ohh yeah those could also be a pain...
Wich sensor?
@@sharpie132 Oil pressure sensor is on the top back of the block behind the intake manifold.
Not looking forward to this but gotta be done with the trans pan gasket. Did you support the engine or did it hold its place when the tyranny slid back
It's not fun but it's not as bad as it seems. I didn't support the engine, it tilted back a little but it actually helped out
Sure wish I had the knowledge and tools to do this myself. They are charging 1300 here in Idaho
That's insane. I bought the tahoe for 1300
Got quoted 1200 in illinois
Not too bad if you don't have the time and space to do it. Just ride it out if the leak isn't bad

@thesetruths1404 the bottom side shares the oil pan gasket. I've seen some people run a small amount of oil resistant rtv to help prevent leaks.

What state do you live in. And do you have a class to show people one on one i will pay you to show me how to do this

this may be a dumb question but I assume the oil needs to be drained before performing this repair? Haha
