I disagree with all of the comments stating the harsh vocals aren't great. Personally, when you consider what this song is about in the first place, the vocals are incredibly aggressive and emotional, which I think is the perfect fit for this cover. And this is an absolutely sensational cover.

@@Rose.Of.Hizaki He mentioned his other favourite band is Wintersun. Their self-titeled album Wintersun - Wintersun is perhaps one of the greatest Melo Death albums of all time IMO.

Those lead vocals sound a lot like Ihsahn from Emperor and the choir combined with the blast beats are fucking mind blowing! This is epic as hell!
The dissonance in the preverse gets me EVERY time, haha. and personally, I love the vocals. I love how different screams and growls can convey different emotions.

Dude, this vocalist is absolutely NAILING the depressive black metal sound! This has to be purposeful. It fits the lyrics and overall tonality of this song sooooooo well.

Having discovered Xanthochroid last summer and pretty much listened to NOTHING ELSE through to christmas. I was watching an old MetalSucks video with Mikael reacting to covers of his songs and this cover by Xanthochroid came up.
Having had no idea that this song existed and being the Xanthochroid Connoisseur that i am now and a massive opeth fan since the early 00's learning a great many of their songs on guitar (really unhealthy obsession...) I believe I am extremely qualified to say that this cover is extremely well done. Very much close to the original but done the Xanthochroid way with the choir/choruses and rough vocals. Such a great interpretation with their signature spin and flare!

Not a huge fan of the lead vocals, but this is an otherwise great cover of a fantastic song.
yeah, i dont really like the growling vocals too much either. on their album the growling vocals sometimes sound really good, sounding similar to Abbath. however, other times i dont really like them. their music in general is awesome, though

Without subgenres, metal would be completely disorganized and without thought. We need subgenres in metal to organize the different sounds metal can produce. Metalheads take pride in the fact that we can have something sound like Bathory and something sound like Nightwish, but they are still metal. Two completely different sounds, but still metal means that subgenres are absolutely needed. There are metalheads that prefer one genre over the other, so subgenres are needed even more.
