So let me get this straight; Sony, instead of taking a risk on a Fincher millennium trilogy that was already cast and had a first installment that was critically praised, decided it would be best to abandon the project wait six years for the hype of the series to die down recast the main character and base it on a book that no one liked that wasnt even written by the original author.
Jesus H. Christ someone at Sony should be fired over this. This is going to be an embarrassment for them just wait and see.

    • @Hop3fulRomantic
      @Hop3fulRomantic Před 5 lety +132

Apparently Daniel Craig wanted more money for doing the second film but the company didn't have a big enough budget to cover it so they had to give it the shaft. And Rooney Mara obviously has to do a lot of seriously tough diets and exercise to get the incredible small size of Lisbeth's character and the older she gets the harder and more unpleasant it will be so she didn't want to wait around. That's what I've heard. Such a shame because it was such an excellent movie.

The Fincher film underperformed because not only did those idiots at Sony release it around Christmas time which is a big mistake considering not to many people (especially women) wanna see a film that has anything involving rape during the Holiday season. Also because it had major competition with Mission Impossible 4 and Sherlock Holmes 2 coming out at the same time.

Is a matter of opinion. Personally Mara made an interpretation much more similar to the character from the novel, both in performance and in the physical aspect. Noomi had a very worked body, she looked very muscular and not anorexic like in the novel. She was good but Mara was better.

I dont mind a movie about a badass female character delivering righteous punishment. But Lisbeth isnt that. She's not a super hero fighting bad guys and saving the weak. Shes more like a honey badger. If you dont mess with her then she doesn't care about you. The only people she destroys are people that hurt her or her friends.

I hated the series to end -- and am excited to see what Claire Foy will bring to Lisbeth's character.....Ironically, the movie versions don't mention the other female lead in this (no spoilers here!!) but she IS mentioned in the books by Stieg Larson.

While I understand that Dragon Tattoo didn't turn as much of a profit as the studio wanted, this certainly won't make anywhere near the Dragon Tattoo's box office. The problem, money-wise was that Fincher made Dragon Tattoo for $90 million, which made it's $232.6 million box office numbers look less impressive. However, a crime thriller making in the 200 millions is fucking impressive. Sure, it was made expensively, and as such, the profit was lower, but the pure box office numbers are intense. And, by all accounts, I believe the sequels would do even better. Because, when Fincher was making his trilogy, the books were at their peak of popularity, they had earned an Oscar nomination for Rooney Mara, they had Daniel Craig in a starring role (who is certainly still a draw, considering Bond), and on top of that, they would have gotten increased word of mouth and DVD watchers who went to the theater to watch the next two movies. And as of now, the popularity of the Millenium series has certainly dipped and what this movie doesn't have is popular source material, or recognizable stars beyond Claire Foy (who still isn't a huge box office draw of a star, despite being a great actress), and on top of all of that, has the added strain of behind the scenes drama and fans of the Fincher film feeling cheated and refusing to see this movie. So while at the moment, it looked like Dragon Tattoo wasn't the success they were hoping for, Fincher's trilogy had much better odds to become that success than this film does, and it was incredibly short-sighted to trade in that trilogy, which would've come out at the optimal time, for this film which is coming out a few years too late

This movie totally misses the point of Lisbeth Salander's character. She literally does not have those many social interactions or those many facial expressions. She looks cold, heartless and uncaring on the outside, but a passionate defender of her loved ones nevertheless. This trailer of a seemingly bound-to-fail movie doesn't come as a suprprise, since David Lagercrantz, the author of "The Girl in the Spider's Web" utterly FAILED to capture the spirit of Stieg Larsson's Lisbeth Salander of the original trilogy! What a pity! That trilogy should have been left alone after his death! I also don't get why the second two books were skipped for adaptation! Why go straight to The Girl in the Spider's Web? & why recast all the actors? Stupid decisions all over this!!! So sad to see it turn into a vigilante movie!!

Well I dont really think it would have worked for her to do the american version as well.I agree shes the best but I thought Mara did a great job this girl in the trailer looks good just not great.

Yes, yes. Noomi is the best out of all three but for the Hollywood version, Rooney fit. Still don't understand why they're continuing/reviving the franchise but using a totally different cast and director.

So, they're making a movie about the literal worst book in the series (premise was decent but the author butchered the characters) and from everything in this trailer they're clearly avoiding most of the plot. Can we please just go back and continue on with the remake that was relatively decent in terms of the characterization and the plot? Can we please get a "played with fire" and "Kicked the hornet's nest" in the same quality the first remake gave us and maybe honor the books and the original author?

Claire Foy is an excellent actress and her job in The Crown is incomparable, but I miss Rooney Mara so much. No one will ever be able to replace her as Lisbeth. I don’t know what the reasons were to change her, but I wish she was still up for this role. I don’t want to judge ahead of time though... I guess I’ll have to adjust and give this new Lisbeth a chance.

Sheyla Anderson this is exactly what I thought when they had Mara replace Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth.

pandane Yeah :( I haven’t seen the original version with Noomi. I will tho. I guess it’s always hard to accept when changes like this happen.

Noomi is Lisbeth for me. Rooney Mara wasn't bad, but just not the same and the accent was bothersome for me. Rooney Mara is a good actress, but in my opinion she seems more suitable for roles as 'nice girls'. (Not that Lisbeth isn't nice, but you know what I mean.) Like Carol for example.

Wow ... impressed as I am by the trailer and what Ive gathered about the screenplay, & so, anxious to see it this evening, Im totally astonished at the vitriol within posts here ... I adored the team of Rooney & David & Fincher et al as well, but, I say that was then, this is now. Granted it may not be as 'brilliant' as 'Tattoo' (?) but it could very well be better than some imagine & ultimately exceed expectations. (Always keep an open mind)

I have just watched this film. It was very enjoyable and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Shame about all the negative reviews
I read all 3 of Larsson's books (which is what got me into all this). I LOVED his books. May his soul rest in peace
I have watched all the Films on Lisbeth since then. All brilliant
Admittedly I have not read the latest book by the new author David Lagacrantz - and it appears people who did- were disappointed that the autistic boy in the book was not carried over in this movie as the actor spoke too much.
I am yet to see any movie do a good job of translating a well written book to a film. It is always difficult to translate those nuances you can dive into in a book. A luxury you do not have in a time constrained movie
Be that as it may - this film has does not deserve the negativity it has received. All the actors and actresses including the cute kid did an excellent job!
It seems unfair to make comparisons to the other tattoo films (which were also brilliant!)
People need to give this film a chance and if you still have not watched it - please go watch it

The Fincher version of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is absolutely epic and one of my favorite films. This is some straight to DVD garbage. Just a lame action film.

THE BATMAN well they could’ve just edited the trailer like that to try and sell it to a mainstream audience. It has the some cold thriller vibe Fincher’s had and the Director is good with that kind of genre
