- Noomi Rapace fell in love with the character of Lisbeth from the Millennium Series novels, so when she was offered the chance to play her in the film adaptation, Noomi made sure that she remained loyal in her portrayal, to the point that she held the script hostage.

To have such a relationship with a fictional character and to say no to misuse of the character's integrity shows that she is a true artist.
She connected with women that have been with that experience. Lisbeth is a composite of those women.
lmao she is a scaredy cat that refused to follow the books
Shows she is unprofessional
She is absolutely right. The way she bottles up the hurt and doesn't let anyone in is exactly why Lisbeth would never "explain" herself in a monologue. So smart. She made the movie a gritty, badass gem!
An actor teaches production "Show, Don't Tell". She's awesome.
exactly and these are the same people who complain about her putting her foot down with criticizing parts of the film screenwriting that never rand tue with the character or characters in the book .... I think alot of us felt that way about Harry Potter Movies ... I saw the films first (many times) and then years later read the books and I was appalled at some of the things that were added or subtracted from the books ....
@@BlaqcRain seriously, IT'S NOT A BOOK
So rare to see an actor more concerned with the art than the fame. She’s such a badass.
Rare my ass. The vast majority of actors, if already famous, could care less about fame. Now treating films as business rather than art, that's a different matter. Many feel, as a matter of professionalism, that "everyone on the set has a job and it's simply mine to play the character as written on the page."
Could *not* care less.
An actor acts a writer writes. You should respect people's positions, she is not the writer, she needs to stay in her lane and stop being a diva.
@@progressreggae Agreed. And I have no problem with an actor having strong feelings about believability of dialogue or character motivation, but flat out refusing to do a scene based on her own reading of the novels (not the script!!) is far beyond the pale. You're not filming the novel, you're filming the screenplay. Would imagine she lost some future work because of this idealistic silliness.
@@progressreggae The scriptwriters obviously had no idea of Lisabeth Salander. Ms. Rapace did. It explains why Hollywood only made the one movie based on the novels.
She’s right. The character Lisbeth wouldn’t have said that monologue.
It just sounds dumb.
@My name is Steve Rogers Exposition is what Dumbs people down. When you have to keep explaining people what happens, then they are not experiencing it themselves.
As far as your little job Rant.. that's the difference between a worker and a slave.
My name is Steve Rogers are stupid or just plain dumb?
"You want a job you do what the person in charge wants or you leave and let someone else do it." Sure if you work at like Burger King or some other unskilled wage slave job. If that's all you've ever done then I can see why you feel this way. However, when you're in a professional career where people collaborate, bringing their talents together to reach a goal, there's back and forth as the involved parties fight for what they believe is the best course based on their respective talents and knowledge.
@My name is Steve Rogers I would more put it this way, if the person in charge asks you to do something you don't agree with, you either roll over and do it anyway, leave or speak up and risk being fired. All of these options is what she faced in the moment just like anyone else who would be put in that situation at work. Granted, most bosses would not be so lenient, but hers was.
Now THAT is an actor who understands her responsibility. She knew a one-page monologue chronicling Lisbeth Salander's history was inorganic to good storytelling and to her character, so she put her foot down. Even after filming was over and GQ was honoring her portrayal of the character, she didn't succumb to expectations. I'm so glad she and the director decided to rework the scene together...I think that made all the difference in the final version of the movie.
She used her star status and the fact they had already begun filming to force the director to give in. Not cool, every writer's worst nightmare. Would that scene have made the movie worse we will never know and neither will she.
@@progressreggae yes but its the actors livelihood on the line everytime, if the movie fails because of bad script. Most of the time people dont remember wrote the script but they do remember who stared in a shitty movie.
@@progressreggae it would of made the movie worse, info dumps are always bad and is just lazy writing.
@@xkeepersvk no it everyone on crews livelihood that is on the line. Now the writer doesn't even get credit for their own script, the "actor" does. She has effected the writers reputation, the writer will be now known as someone who writes scripts so weak actors can change it. Only people with overblown self importance think they have authority over your job even though that's not their position. If you actually had to work with these divas you would know what I mean.
@@ZestyUdders Not always true, but I would say in the case of most movies that is true. However if you are in the middle of a good fantasy or sci-fi series that needs tons of world building and knowledge to understand the motivations of characters, or the big picture conflicts then info dumps are sometimes necessary.
I’m happy to see that she was so passionate about the sincerity of her character. She did an amazing job!
I thought the scene would have been the butt rape scene, and how girls don't like butt sex and it hurts too much and how they are always complaining that I'm too big, blah, blah, blah. Glad to see she doesn't have a problem with that.
@@rupertmurdoch4750 Why?
@@dumfriesspearhead7398 because most girls don't like taking it in the butt
@@rupertmurdoch4750 Neither do most guys, not even gay ones. It's too big for them I guess blah blah blah blah.
@@dumfriesspearhead7398 Why are you thinking about whether or not guys want dicks in their butt?
Her performance was incredible. She made the movie.
I will watch any movie she is in, she’s such a great actor.
She's an actress
What happened to Monday, The Drop, Angel of mine. These are my favs where she is the lead. Enjoy :)
Elizabeth Shaw
Same. She’s sincerely captivating!!
@@haczabim Actor doesn't have any gendered nouns in it. It's been the same word for everyone for decades now
The way she talks about the character is admirable, she's so into it.
I read all the books before I saw any of the movies. She does the books and the character proud.
She's an artist in the best sense.
she is an actress never know when she lies
I so admire this actor. She is consistently authentic in her film portrayals.
I love Noomi. She's such an incredible actress who is completely fearless and is totally committed to realizing a character/performance. She's such a powerful force of nature.
"She's not sexual for others"... That's powerful 👏
How?
She’s sexual for herself. Her pleasure. Her autonomy. Her fulfillment. Her experience. Not sexual to be admired or desired or approved of or objectified. Big difference.
@Yan I'm not sure what you mean or whether I particularly appreciate it but thanks?
@Ribb Rotgut it makes perfect sense.
@Ribb Rotgut It makes absolute sense.
When she talks about having a "pact" with her character, her conviction runs so deep it gives me chills.
She is incredibly passionate.
Thank you for not underestimating the audience.
She is one of the greatest actors of all time. Master in her art, high in her standard of performance. Loyal to her art.
The most underrated and underutilised actor ever.
Its a crime how they used her in Sherlock, I hated that movie because they didn't use her correctly.
Black Paradise absolutely
A major part of the reason I haven't watched Alien: Covenant is because of what they did to her character after her journey in Prometheus.
She's an Actress.
@@davidodonovan4982 everyone knows this. Get off that keyboard and back to bed
Noomi!! The ONLY Lisbeth! She’s so terrific and Hollywood hasn’t a clue how to use her blazing talent...
Have you not seen her in the Lemony Snickett thing with NPH?She was great in Sherlock Holmes and Prometheus but she OWNED that series of Unfortunate Events series. She is amazing.
I do like the latest one......but I think she is an amazing actress, and to hear her reasoning is even more impressive!
Apart from her guts, it was still highly unprofessional of her to refuse like this. These guys get a chance to read scripts before signing contracts. Then she puts the whole team on spot in middle of production knowing well enough it would be hard for them to fire her now with all the money invested. It's not guts, it's rather unprofessional entrapment on her part. Sorry but I wish I never get to work with people like her!
@@saltriverpirate3172 ... I don't recall her being in A Series of Unfortunate Events 🧐
@@ThinkSleepLeave Didn't she say that there wasn't a script when she was hired on?
Wow. I was blown away by her ability in those movies, and now to hear how far she was willing to push to keep true to the character, icing on the cake. I'll just have to assume she didn't read the script for Prometheus before she signed on.
She was powerful in this role
I’ve never seen The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but what she just said was so beautiful I think I need to.
Just watch the Swedish movies with Noomi, not the American version.
I quite liked both versions, although they are very different. The Swedish movies are totally faithful to the book, and I loved that, and Noomi was great as Lisbeth. The American version was more glam and slick, and perhaps worked better as a movie on it's own, if you were not familiar with the books. Rooney played a much more vulnerable Lisbeth, she was good too, but it's definitely not the way the character comes across in the book.
please do, it is impressive...
Swedish version is quality.
@LordKellthe1st the original & the best. The English version was a waste of money. One cannot improve on perfection!!
Craft over commerce. More Noomi please!
I still remember the news in Scandinavia when she was cast as Lisbeth and everyone was like "Who is she??". And when she did interviews she barely spoke English. Such a brilliant actress; she's come such a long way! 😍
This might have been the most powerful interview i have have seen by an actress. Good for her.
Lizbeth is one of my most favourite characters of all time, so unforgettable... the rawness and honestly came forth so clearly in the film because Noomi Rapace understood her so well. Well done!!!
yeah I agree, but I also think that the movies are so good because they have been made i filmed in Sweden by Swedish actors and team. They know how to make crime movies.
You can tell she's really proud of this and she should be.
@Terrence Odonnell No response. Wanna make an actual point or something?
@Terrence Odonnell OK boomer.
@jay
Noomi wasn't being a harpy. She stayed true to the book and the character. Having recently rewatched the Millenium movies I was still so intrigued of Lisbeth's character. We didn't need to know her backstory during the first movie. It only became revelent in the sequels which delved into it.
Spelling it out to the audience would have been unnecessary. Bjurman's treatment of Lisbeth tells us everything we need to know about how and why the character behaves the way she does in the first movie.
@Terrence Odonnell
> Doesn't give any arguments and just insults someone as a response

Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth Salander is a flawless performance.
Good for her. Lisbeth would never whine about her problems like that, and it would have come off as exposition. Sometimes the actor really is the person with the greatest insight into the character.
She was right on. The scene of her throwing the match said everything we needed to know.
Anything she acts in is immediately at the top of my must watch list. She never disappoints.
So proud to be swede with this powerful actor ...she knows how to take control thats not beeing a diva
And THAT is why she is THE BEST Lisbeth Salander out there!!!!
@Flim Flam Other movies no one remembers.
@Flim Flam not for me. I found her portrayal boring, completely stereotyped, weak and pedantic which was far from Lisbeth's character. She (and is in the book) would never presume her photographic memory nor make comments like "sometimes he performes cunillingus on her. Not often enough in my opinion" (a very ridiculous one by the way).
The whole movie was bad even though it was relatively more faithful to the books. I recommend watching the uncut version of the swedish movies.
@@shooterqqqq lol I think the less memorable movie was The Girl in the Spider's Web.
@@ViciousChaosAkaDalle I barely remember that movie. If you hadn't mentioned it, I would have forgotten it existed.
AGREE TOTALLY
“I’m more loyal to the character than I am to my own issues and my own vanity and my own fears.”
Good for her. She is a true fan of the books and Lisbeth Salander.
Noomi is the real deal takes her roles seriously that's why I love her she's not into herself that's why she's my favorite actress!
Definitely a big fan. Her honesty shows through here, while being interviewed & in the roles she plays!
WOW amazing to have an actress who wants to play true to character - to a point where she was willing to risk her job. Lisbeth would approve.
Great talent. I love how she kept the character true to the way the books were written. Great story telling and great portrayal.
I think the most telling part of how Lisbeth's character is revealed in the film is the scene where Blomkvist says "I want you to help me catch a killer of women". The change in her body language is so subtle it would be easy to miss but it shows so many things. She is immediately converted to Blomkvist's cause but at the same time it shows that he has read her and that hits her vulnerability. To me it showed a whole team in synch with what they wanted to achieve; actors, writer, producer and director. It filled in a huge part of the backstory, it was superbly set up with Blomkvist playing the "illegal" card as a threat and then backing off to gain her trust and then her acting absolutely nailed it.
She OWNED the character of Lisbeth. Amazing actress in a great part.
In the movie, Lisbeth wouldn't even tell Michael about her past, even after they were intimate.
she was amazing in that role!
The perfect example of "less is more" . . .
Wow, I really respect her for knowing that the audience doesn't need to have their hand held.
One of the current greatest actors in the world.
Respect for the story is respect for the character. a true Artist has Integrity. Bless you Noomi !
Every book to movie adaptations need actors like her!!!! Love it so much
I love Noomi!!! I read the trilogies and she is what I envisioned the character to be when I finally watched the movie...The American version has nothing on the original version!!
wow!!! She is so authentic, loyal to her deep feeling. Love her.
Choosing not to be a victim is a huge character trait we can all borrow.
So true, unfortunately in our society right now, people are competing to see who can be the biggest victim, its trendy to play the victim right now.
@OAT351 See there ya go, everyone is crying victim now! Women, gays, Muslims, even white guys.... I guess its the way it is now.
@@billbored8277 I cringed

She did perform magnificently as that character.
What a great actress. Not just for this movie or discussion, but her films, she is so great.
I cannot believe America does not give her lead roles. Fan since '09
American cinema has given her nothing but schlock to work with. Interestingly, she once said she would never come to Hollywood and she, clearly, didn't keep that promise...but she should have. This film will always be her best role, sad to say.
I'm pretty sure _Prometheus_ was a lead role.
Maybe hijacking a whole production has something to do with it.
@@TheMoviePlanet Prometheus was a P.O.S. film...Ridley Scott should be embarrassed. She should be embarrassed, especially after swearing to never do a Hollywood film.
Whatever the quality of _Prometheus_ it doesn't change the fact that it was a lead role in a big American film.
This is a true artist right here. Good for her.
Great interview - what great guest. Almost impossible not to fall in love with her character in Dragon Tattoo. Superb casting and a superb performance. (I have watched the movie 9 or 10 times)
Happy to see her in Amazon Prime’s Jack Ryan so hopefully there’s more hollywood roles to come. The world needs more of Lisbeth Salander!
What Happened to Monday. If you haven't all ready, please watch this! She is mind blowing in it!

I had never heard of Naomi before this film. I’m a huge fan now. Wonderful actress with an amazing talent.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Wow, what a woman. At first the interviewer keeps interrupting her, but eventually she just blows him away lol. She's just as uncompromising as Lisbeth!
One of many reasons why i love this Woman!
She is phenomenal........she was so so good in that part BECAUSE she had so much integrity ........Kudos to Noomi !!!! Absolutely loved her performance.
Awesome to see an actress so devoted to her craft
I love this beautiful actress, she reminds me of Sigourney Weaver
“Loyal to the character”

It’s rare to have an actress as fierce, powerful, brilliant and authentic. Admire your courage and loyalty to self Noomi.
yo i LOVE this woman! all her movies, are impeccable. The way she dive in, the way she drives the charater is sweeping
She is a great actor!!!! I have loved every character she has played in every film I have seen her in.
I watched her as Lisbeth and really enjoyed her performance and play of the character. I also watched some more Sweedish films after that . Very talented people and some really fantastic films.
She is so underrated as an actor. She is a wonderful and amazing actor. Love her!! Ive watched all her movies.
I fell in love with her after watching that movie too! She was so badass and fragile at the same time you just wanted to protector in that movie and hearing her loyalty to the character is really impressive. Not many actors would put their jobs on the line to be truthful to a character like she did. Wow, love her even more now!
one of the my favorite actress. Unfortunately underrated
She isnt overlooked because of a lack of acting talent. She is passed on because she refuses to do her job. Thats what this interview explains. She is a disagreeable narcissist.
She has so much respect for the audience and she will always be my favorite of all time!! She is extraordinary. I love her!!
I respect that
Simply one of the most incredible examples of acting there has been yet.
She WAS the girl. She IS the girl.
Noomi is amazing. Expositional scenes can be so disrespectful to an audience.
Wow! She is amazing. When someone fights for a character so lovingly, so passionately, you know you are in the presence if great character.
I love her approach to how she gets into her characters. She knows that audiences do not need their hands held.
She is absolutely phenomenal!!!
I knew exactly what she had gone through.... It was like looking into the past.
I cried during this movie more than most.
Damn, now I love her even more, now I need more NR in my life.
I love how she performed that role, I'm IN love!!! It's been several months since I finished watching the series but every single time I see or think about this amazing actress my heart stops🫠
For me there's only one true Lisbeth and she's performed by Noomi🖤
The fist time I saw her in the movie I felt that she created this strong character and took it on her own to made this character the focus of the story. And after listening to her story here today, I was not that far off. She is a lovely lady. Good luck on future films.
What a beautiful clip. Thank you.
She really and truly nailed that part. Amazing in every way.
Wow, I'm SO glad that she didn't explain that. The movie was so powerful BECAUSE of the sub-text, mystery and nuance of the character.
