Can You Beat Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories Using An Exodia Deck?

- Possibly the most staggering Challenge Run of Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories is the Exodia Deck. Well, the way I made the challenge anyway. Based off of a poll I asked my subscribers, there are a lot of rules and restrictions in this run so that there is no doubt that this is an Exodia Deck Challenge Run. The difficulty comes from determining what the other 35 cards will be in the deck and how to obtain them. With no Exodia support cards like in the Official Card Game, the only strategy we can employ is stall out until we can draw all 5 pieces of Exodia. What makes this run also especially difficult is that the CPU will have full access to their strongest strategies as we are not allowed any offensive resistance to slow them down. All the duelists we face will be at full strength, which means what we come up with won't always work.
With the power of editing, hopefully I have created a far more exciting viewing experience for these duels rather than you just staring at a slow-paced, stall fest over and over again.

>force fed GHB
made me laugh having been in a GHB coma before. Weird feeling,
53:09 ...as a math wiz, even I went to a Yugioh Probability calculator to figure it out, and it was 75.64% to have at least 1, assuming 2 in deck. If he had 3 in there, it would have been 88.46% odds.
Just letting you know that the discord link (in the commens) doesn't work anymore
@@retoih7316 Thanks for letting me know! Just updated it.
Exodia Cutscene being 50 unskippable seconds and FunBox winning 473 duels means he had to watch 6 hours and 34 minutes of Exodia Obliterate. That's dedication!
Incorrect, Rex decked out.
@@BefuddledMage28 If you do subtract that 50 seconds for Rex, it is still 6 hours 33 minutes and 20 seconds. Which is still nuts. (the exact amount for the initial calculation was and extra 10 seconds over).
@@BefuddledMage28 ...we literally see him drawing Exodia on Rex and the animation beginning, wtf are you on about?
@@henriquepacheco7473 46:12 Freeplay. Decks out, wins invigoration.
Since it is emulated surely he would just speed it up?
"I start by dumping my entire hand."
I, too, enjoy playing Dark World.
Loved that deck back in the day.
Infernity to their backrow, until you play a backrow removal card and they just scoop
Seto 1: AH! EXODIA! THAT'S NOT POSSIBLE!
Seto 2: Exodia? Again? That's improbable.
Seto 3: Just play the f*cking pieces.
Exodia?! That's impossible!
Exodia?! That's... improbable.
Exodia? That's... very unlikely.
Exodia... huh?
Exodia... Look, if you're not gonna take this seriously, I'm out.
Nice chicken reference
you forgot Kaiba in the tournament
@@Rigter9029
Kaiba: watches Yugi defeat everyone else in the tournament solely by drawing Exodia
Also Kaiba: Impossible! No one has ever been able to summon Exodia!
Listen, accidentally decking your opponent is always acceptable. It's not your fault that they just somehow managed to run through atleast fourty cards while you were aiming for your win con.
They had the nerve to quad replay the attack after Exodia takes 7 years to get ready.. Konami was definitely trolling with thar animation 😂😂
It was so infuriating to watch every. single. time.
It was normal for the time I guess. Summon animations in jrpgs were so f*ing long I never used them more than once or twice.
Yeah ffvii nights of the round and ffviii eden come to mind
Like i get it. They wanted to make an extra special animation for something they thought most people would nevet experience and if they did it would only ever be once so they made over the top. But they should have made it skippable for situations like this where you see multiple times over and over again. But can't blame them for tryin to make something memorable and cool for something they thought would be rarely seen
What is the whole dumping your hand about I’m not u der standing this game at all and did you play ur man eater bug face up.
That 25 year old animation is the best Exodia animation I've seen in any videogame. Nowadays it's just still images of Exodia attacking.
They really were ahead of their time with this game. There's like ~600 monsters each with 2 different attacks and animations.
I think the goal is to not drag it out because of how competitive Yu-gi-oh already wastes your time with infinitely long turns.
Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution has an absolutely top tier Exodia animation.
And wile not good as link evolution master duel good as it animated
The editing to move quickly though duels without speeding up footage is extraordinary effort. Very smooth.
Alternative Title: Kaiba stops dueling after getting exodia'd 10 times in a row.
Almost surprised you didn't just stop and call the run impossible after beating weevil, saying 'well, he stole my exodia cards, guess i'll just lose.' Super rough last few fights, but good job for sticking it out and finishing
That would have been a good joke gonna have to remember to steal that if it ever fits into anything else
Have some starchips as compensation
@@FunBox. I always wonder why someone like Tristan didn't just pitch Weevil overboard after Weevil did that, as well as how Weevil and others like him were even still around after so much blatant cheating and getting caught so many times.
@@MarkofWisdom id like to see the alternate yu gi oh story where Tristan and Joey give Weevil an atomic wedgie and throw his whole deck overboard lmao
I'm pretty sure speed runners data mined Simon and found out it is literally imposable to lose to Exodia by him, his AI forces him to play the head when he has it as it is his strongest attack monster and in all the decks where he has all the pieces he ends up playing a piece before he has all in his hand. sorry guys, nostalgia ruined, you never lost to Simon by Exodia.
Yeah, I've seen people say it has happened to them, but they must be remembering wrong and it was actually Heishin. I didn't even consider that because Exodia has 1000 atk, Simon would always play it. Thanks for commenting this, I'm gonna try to find those speedrunners' results.
Yep, it would to be set up in an extremely specific way with the head as the last card he gets. Problem is, the odds of everything falling into place is so low that there is not a single seed with a frame of RNG that would allow this to occur. So it's actually impossible.
Doesn't Exodia's effect also trigger if you play all 5 pieces on the field? So isnt it technically possible to let him use it if you dont interfere?
@@yoursonisold8743only in the hand
@@FunBox. there might be a chance that he starts with exodia right?

Super well-paced, well made vid, man. So much fun!
Glad you enjoyed it so much!
Im sure people have already said this before, but the amount of effort you put into your videos is phenomenal! Keep it up!
Thanks! Glad you appreciate it!
that Exodia model looks perfect for an Age of Mythology mod, I'm not even gonna lie. even has a janky idle animation to boot
Edit: I see someone's an Age of Mythology fan
Impressive run. The amount of time that it takes to make videos like this are unbelievable. Forbidden memories is so frustrating to play with all the odds and farming but it's quite entertaining to play.
So happy to see this run! I am so amazed how you managed to streamline everything. The amount of grinding was perfect-a long video to enjoy but it never got boring. The explaining of AI mechanics was also very nice
Glad you enjoyed it! I love to read comments like this
All of the budget for the game was used on that Exodia animation 😂
Fun video. Really love the editing shown off, especially when cards are replacing other cards or when the deck list goes from covering the whole screen to the side bar!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! These challenge run videos are really my first attempt at heavily edited stuff and the amount of time these take is shockingly long, so I'm glad they seem to add a lot to people's viewing experience
Another great run. I always learn something new when I watch your videos and as I play this game a lot, it’s valuable information. Can’t wait for the next run!
Thanks for sticking around!
Enjoyed every single minute of this one!!!! You put so much effort in and your videos are masterpieces always!! Cannot wait to see any future videos you have in store!
Thanks for the support and kind words! You're the best
It's amazing how gamers like you have turned a cult classic like this into its own genre.
This was one of my favourite games growing up, I never made it past the final few fights because I thought it was impossible but this makes me want to play again without guides etc. Thanks for taking me back to that memory, this was an amazing video with the same quality I would expect from a 1mil+ sub channel. Great pacing and breaks, the transitions were unobtrusive, and your storyline was clear and flowed well. Your audio quality and audio levels didn't bug me one bit and that's rare. As someone who hasn't played in years, I understood almost everything without needing to think. Those are some of the small differences that take you from an insular audience to an open audience base, I.e. anyone can drop into the video and enjoy it. Keep up the great content!
Amazing run, Fun Box! I like the editing showing your current cards and oppents strongest cards.
Thanks, I'm really glad you enjoyed the editing
I never beat Forbidden Memories at all, but seeing someone not only beat it, but beat it entirely with Exodia when entertaining. I'd have never had the patience. Especially when it came to the final few. I'd have thrown my controller and given up on the challenge. Kudos to you for toughing it all out and getting through the entire game!
Glad you were entertained!
Awesome content. Subscribed immediately. I used to play Yu-Gi-Oh between 2001-2017 and switched to MTG but classic Yu-Gi-Oh game content has been so enjoyable. Keep up that awesome work man!
Thanks for subbing, glad you enjoyed it!
I liked this video a lot.
Got a few laughs outta me.
And now i need to do this kinda playthrough.
That was insane my man!
Can't wait for the next one.
Glad you liked it so much!
I almost never comment on videos but I felt compelled to comment on yours. Your explanation of things happening in the video, timely humor, breaking down your deck(s), and narration as a whole kept your video very refreshing. Even despite you doing the “same thing” the entire video I was enthralled for every second. No unnecessary editing or inapt attributes. 10/10. I don’t know if the rest of your content is similar but I will be finding out right now! Keep it up!
Thanks for letting me know how much you enjoyed it!
This one was incredibly fun and captivating! Thank you for enduring it and wrapping it in such a nice story
Glad you enjoyed it so much!
Hey, I am glad that I watched this!!! I still have this game on ps1 and I never got past the first duel iirc 🤣 props to you
i rarely watch these kind of videos, but this was very entertaining. thanks for the hard work, and welcome back.
Thanks for giving it a chance, you're welcome, and it's good to be back!
Good gameplay along with informative and funny commentary. This was cool.
First off, cool video, some great jokes in there. While I played the game once as a kid, I had no idea how it works, yet I had no problem following.
Only critique I'd have is that I'd the little info boxes above the kuribohs to stay on the screen a bit longer, so I can read them fully without stopping the video.
P.S.: always great to see full subtitles on a video. I imagine it's a good chunk of more work, and while I don't need them, there are people who do, so it's greatly appreciated!
Glad you enjoyed it, yeah the subtitles take more work, but then they can be translated into other languages so I think it's worth it!
Another great video king. You're criminally underrated and under subbed.
Thanks man! Hopefully I won't be criminally under rated and subbed for too much longer :D
Dang, this is really well done. Keep up the good work!
Thanks, will do!
Dude the level of effort you put in each one of these videos is insane, keep it up g
Thanks, will do!
I just watched all 3 of your yu-gi-oh fm videos, amazing work. I am sick right now and these videos really keep me sane. Your channel is a blessing. subbed and liked all 3. I don't comment a lot on videos but just know that a lot of people enjoy these without commenting. Love
Thanks so much for the love and the comment. Get well soon!
@@FunBox. Thank you so much ❤
This video is so well made and probably took forever to make, nice work!
It’s so easy for me to sit back and make a critical comment but I have an idea. I feel like if during the duels you did more of a “color commentary” rather than a “play-by-play” it might be a little less tutorial like. Let me know what you think!
I hear what you're saying, I did try to add some color and threw in some jokes, perhaps not enough. I'm not sure I want to research randoms factoids or anecdotes to "fill in" the video because I want the focus to be the Challenge. Everyone remembers this game as a brutal, unforgiving grind fest of their childhood, only beatable by fusing Twin-headed Thunder Dragon and attaching equips to it, and I know that isn't true which is why I'm doing these in the first place. I want to show people how wrong we were as kids, what we didn't know as our ignorant, little selves, so straying too far away from the concept of the video is something I'm reluctant to do. However, I appreciate the criticism, someone mentioned something similar in my last video and I tried to implement it here. There is only so much I can talk about regarding strategy and roadmaps, so I'm going to need to fill the gaps with color commentary, eventually.
Thanks for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Have some starchips
What cool video dude, this is the FM video I didn’t know I needed to see. Congrats cool content.

Love your recent videos! I would like to see more videos with a voice over like this for other games
Thanks! I'm gonna have to branch out eventually, only so many videos I can make of Forbidden Memories... or is there? Maybe there's Infinite Forbidden Memories...

The summer nights I stayed up till 4am playing this game and drinking chocolate milk. So good.

Hey there, I got your video recommended to me on the side videos, I usually don't see other videos and channels that I'm used to but I'm glad I did this time, awesome video, keep up the videos, love challenge videos too!
If you like Magic I would love to see this kind of content too, MTGGoldfish does this but the same kind of content is irrelevant since each person and channel has their way of edits, jokes, ideas, etc, speaking of which I laughed so much with the Millenium Eye card you made lol
Got a new fan and sub! :)
Awesome! Glad you clicked and enjoyed! The Millennium Eye card is one of my favorite parts too
@@FunBox. lol that was awesome and caught me by surprise, love your sense of humor!
Also I meant "I usually 'don't' see videos from other channels..." xD
I will be a regular be sure of that, would love to see a Reptile-Only challenge too and others, but I think some can't be done due to lack of monsters of these types, even nowadays there's so little reptiles, fish, etc, but if you love a hard challenge those will be the hardest I think, reptile and fish types only
And please say you like Magic too, I would love any kind of challenge, be it on Arena, the defunct Duels of the Planeswalkers games, etc, anything like this would be awesome.
man, for an opponent to deck out before you could get exodia is nuts, but take it since what you are doing is decking yourself out, they just did it first somehow then lost because they forgot they never played exodia
Bro, you should play Duelist of the Roses. That would make for some badass content. I used to love playing this game and DotR as a kid. Always thought these games were grossly underrated
Hey, not wholely relevant to the video, but I took a look at your channel and noticed that all your old stuff is from like 12 years ago. I'm glad you came back and didn't give up. These last few videos have been legit bangers. I hope you keep it up. Between the good content as well as your chill voice and attitude, you have a lot of potential. I really look forward to what you do next.
Thanks for the encouragement! It means a lot reading comments like this!
Bro gotta say, to find a channel dedicated to Forbidden Memories (one of my favorite games ever), and through a video like this?? PERFECTION!!
Loved it so so much, and the editing was on point!! Loved that I still managed to learn new things about the game too! I didnt know about the chance for them to not attack your face-down monsters, and the conditions for them to use Spell Cards. Is there any other cool resources for one to learn more about the game??
Love your content, and you just got a new sub!
Thanks! Glad you loved it. The people who speedrun this game have a ton of resources that don't just apply to speedrunning and is how I got to learn the intricacies of the game. I don't think I can paste an invite to their discord, but that's where I get most of my info and they are a great help to understanding AI behaviours.
@@FunBox. Oh thank you so much, will deffo look into it bro
I thought my recent Exodia run in Duelist of the Roses was hard. I can't imagine how hard this would be.
Nice video
7:23 Nice catch on the Flame Cerebrus pronunciation lol, that card must have been a typo.
Oddly, it technically isn't a typo. The card was released in Metal Raiders in North America in 2002. When the set reached English-Europe in July 2003, the name wasn't corrected. So, it is the official name of the monster unlike other cards in this game such as Doma the Angle of Silence or Spiked Snall.
I feel like you are competing with Jon_Oh in video quality and it shows. This one is really well edited and I appreciate it a lot!
Thanks, I'm really glad you enjoyed it!
bro made a poll on what the challenge should be then ended up doing all 4 💀
Great breakdown on this!
Thanks!
good vid, I'll give you some lore about Simon Muran in this game, though he can in theory summon exodia, because he always plays his strongest monster card against the player, whenever he draws the head he instantly plays it, this means he can only summon exodia if the head is the last card he draws. With that being said, members of the ygofm community have scouted every single possible seed for Simon duels and not once does he meet the possible conditions to summon exodia. I'm sure the developers intended for him to be able to very very rarely summon it, but it's actually entirely impossible!
Thanks for the insight! I've been looking for these tests that prove it's impossible with no luck, but ppl keep telling me so they're out there somewhere.
Thumbnail looks good 👍 Looking forward to watching later
Thanks! It's not completely done yet, still working on the little details, but I'm glad someone has already said they like it. :)
Ah! Exodia! That's not possible! No one has ever been able to summon him outside of Japan in this game!
Congratulations on your random algorithm trend! After all those hours in it doing it for a small time channel, you deserve it. Respect yo!
Thanks! Hopefully it doesn't remain random and is just a regular trend
Holy fuck he actually beat the game with an Exodia deck.
A fire only run would be cool! Loving these video's
Thanks! Yeah, I have a plan for one in the works.
Good to see you back
Good to be back :D
This run made me realize how hellish this game would be if the AI wasn't so defective in how it decides whether it should fuse. Imagine if in normal play the early villager fights would just decide to throw down a twin-headed on their first turn.
Absolutely, in fact I'm thinking of doing a challenge run with a mod that fixes everything the AI does wrong, making the game incredibly difficult. It'd probably be a fun video
Fun Box had to sit through 42 minutes of Exodia while he farmed Simon. And ONLY Simon. Kudos to you, FB, I'd have given up

Hehe "and forbidden memories came out in 1989" ah yes. A good year for Yu-Gi-Oh to be sure.
I jest though. I look forward to your coming videos, you have a great editing style and the lil kuriboh who pops up with notes is very endearing.

Do you have a link to a page that has the complete AI data for each opponent? Tea Online has the decks, and I figured out which opponents have "aggressive" AI and "cautious" AI just through playing the game so much, but I want to know how much cards every opponent has in their hand. You just hear about the final four having 20 card hands but nothing about the hand size of everyone else.
Also you gotta use the Nitemare 3D and Kaiba 3D battle themes, they're too good to not use and most people probably don't even know this exist.
Yeah, I should use those themes, you're right.

I remember before getting Meteor Black Dragon, Id equip into Nekogal #2 or Crimson Sunbird and boost it all the way up to 9999 attack. I carefully triggered the widespread ruins with fodder or fused a harpies feather duster (follow wind and machine conversion factory).
Meteor Black Dragon was a game changer, I remember it took me several hundred times to get the card once.
Yeah, getting that first one can be brutal. I remember being a kid farming Meadow Mage because he was dropping cards like Pragtical, Curse of Dragon, and Skull Knight. Then the MBD drop that also dropped my jaw... good times.

Every time I watch a long video about this game, I wonder what the Devs were smoking when they made this game, it basically seems impossible unless you are cheesing the hell out of the duel.
played this game as a kid. Was like my first video game with spyro on ps1. Actually got to beat heishin at the first encounter after my like 20th restart (ye, a ton of luck)
Hey great job on this run! I have a question, which was the fastest Exodia win you got during this whole run? Including free duel farming.
13:08 While grinding Villager 2, the 23rd win I got Exodia in 3 turns, using only 10 cards.
