@@ToneyReactions Thing is her heart is breaking too, grieving because she thought this was it and suddenly got that pit in the stomach that says no. This aint it. Which sucks for both of them She still wants all that She had with her partner and wishes it for for herself and them unfortunatly for her and them it didn’t click or perhaps fortunatly including that she said no which takes real guts not making both of them miserable, or should I say more miserable as she also is grieving the dream of the life they could have had. ( Been at both ends of that) Including a guy who popped the question unexpectedly a good friend whilst drunk and I said yes and meant it the next day he took it back due to wanting an education we probably wouldn’t end up in the same place etc. Very practical and we kept writing letters for years. I would have married him in a hearbeat. A guy friend of his convinced him that it was a bad idear that day.

A champagne problem is having to choose between two things which could both have a good outcome. She could have said yes and had a fine life with him, but instead she choose to go into her future without him. She’s saying he’ll also be fine eventually. He won’t even remember this one day. I like how she throws in there
“Dom Perignon you brought it” which at a foiled proposal is a literal champagne problem… Taylor gonna Taylor!

I'm a Swiftie and I came across your channel a few weeks ago ❤️ i seriously love watching your reactions to her music and this is in my top five favorite all time songs of hers 😊 she is a poet and i am excited to see the influence her work has for generations to come just like The Beatles and Michael Jackson have!
The other writer on this song is William Bowery which is the pen name for Joe Alwynn, meaning they wrote this together while they were in Covid lockdown. It's a work of fiction like most of Folklore and Evermore are, but the heartbreak in this song feels so real. This is the song that she received an eight minute long standing ovation two nights in a row in L.A. !!

I pretty much posted the same comment- regarding "No body no crime!"
I only started to listen to her albums about a year ago. It was a combination of the media portrayal, of "all she writes about is her exes", thing.
I like the folk, country alt pop sound though, and she even sounded like a singer/songwriter who is popular in the US, but not so much anywhere else, but she started out with a folk sound, then more of an alt rock sound, and then went country for a few albums. At one point, on the Hunger Games soundtrack I thought it was Jewel not Taylor! But although it was Folklore and Evermore that got me, Reputation is amazing imho. There's the heavy production bangers that you can't help dancing too, "Ready for it", "IDSB", rap and hip hop feel "Endgame", the confessional songs, "DBM" and "Getaway car", and the sweet love songs, "Delicate," "CIWYW", and the sexy vibe ones, "SO IT GOES", "DWOHT", and that bridge ah! And my favourite "DRESS".
Sorry for the rambling- it was the recommendation of "no body no crime", and the similar loving these reaction vids. Have a great day.

Loooove the Taylor reactions. One of the lines of this song confused me until someone finally explained it to me so in case it helps anyone else-“November flush and your flannel cure” means that she was turning red from the cold and he gave her his flannel jacket lol. This song is sort of fun to mull over because I think it has some poetic lines that aren’t necessarily straightforward. I think “champagne problems” can also just in general refer to that she doesn’t have what was considered a GOOD reason to not marry him-he loved her and he treated her nicely and isn’t that enough reason to get married? But….is it really enough if it doesn’t feel right in the moment?

Taylor says that folklore and evermore aren't autobiographical, but she also said Midnights is songs written on 13 sleepless nights throughout her life. She likes to keep us on our toes. I truly believe Midnights is a breakup album and in the case of Champagne Problems, flip the protagonist. I sing this song at my concerts and hear me out: what if SHE was the one who proposed? Case in point, this lyric from You're Losing Me on the 3AM version of Midnights: "I wouldn't marry me either, a pathological people pleaser who only wanted you to see her." We will likely never know because she doesn't name names. I'd love to see you react to that! Thanks for all the incredible content!

    • @khills
      @khills Před 7 měsíci +4

I know it’s controversial to see Midnights as (primarily) a breakup up album, but I agree with you. More specifically, I think it’s the songs she writes in the middle of the night when a relationship is on the rocks, starting to fracture… and then it does. And we know “reports” have said for a few years now that their relationship has been rocky because they have different priorities (and different levels of fame). So Midnights is a mix of love songs and breakup songs, because that’s what it’s like at 3am after things start breaking apart… sometimes you’re so mad you write a breakup song, sometimes you’ve had a fight and patched it up and you’re in love, sometimes you’re just counting the cracks in the ceiling because you know you love the person next to you… but you also know this has to end, you can’t keep doing this cycle.
She’s had a lot of midnights and four albums since getting together with Joe. Also… per her comments, they got together in late 2016 (after her Sept 2016 breakup with TH) and were together 6 years. I know it’s pedantic, but hey, we’re talking about Taylor Swift. If she and Joe had really broken up in April of this year, it would have been something (from her PR team) about 6.5 years together. But they were last spotted in public together in what, July 2022? That’s the last date I could find, anyhow. There’s plenty of time from then to October for Taylor to finalize the songs on the album to show that they’re about a relationship that’s slowly breaking down and ultimately breaking up.

Loved your thoughtful, insightful, kind and fun reaction .
I am two glasses in so I will share how this storytelling reasonates with me.
I had the same boyfriend since 16/17. Fast forward several years. At his parents, New Years eve party he decided to do the grand romantic gesture. Everyone knew it was coming. His family, my family, our friends...
There was the ring and cases of champagne ready - better stuff that usual. And extra cameras.
My bestie had flown in just to be sure to be there.
It was wonderful and perfect with the man I truly loved. A boy I'd grown up with.
The moment was everything it should be.
And when he asked I heard a scream in my head "NO!"
But I didnt pull a Taylor. I said yes.
That just made things exponentially worse.
I spent the next year feeling like chewing my foot off to get out of a trap. But I people pleased and nodded and kept saying yes.
Kept sipping champagne at fittings, tastings, and showers.
    Sipping became chugging.
    Talk about champagne problems.
I ended up being a run away bride.
    I hurt everyone.
Growing up is a lot about finding your voice and learning timing.
Hes a great guy. His family is great. I even get why so many friends said such horrible things about me.
    I would have too
    He deserves his happy life.
    And so do I.
Sometimes you dont know the answer until someone asks.

@yasemin6338 in the song, she mentions dorm rooms. That makes me think this was a late teens early twenties proposal with not much life experience beyond school yet.
Maybe feeling life got mapped out for you before you even got see anything of it. Not know if you decided on it or just are following a plan.
Not sure who you are yet and if who you are now is all of you.
Like having someone order for you and feeling like you didn't even get to look at the menu. Doesn't mean you don't or won't love the dish, but would have liked to consider if it's really the best choice for your tastes and mood.

    • @theConquerersMama
      @theConquerersMama Před 5 měsíci +1

@yasemin6338 oh my. That is so kind of you to ask.
At the time I couldn't think of a reason.
That's why it took me so long to say "no".
Looking back. It was my untreated & undiagnosed ADHD. I was so full of anxiety. I was a people pleasing perfectionist with an eating disorder. Yet the more responsibility as an adult- structuring my own time and making my own decisions - the more it became apparent to me there was something fundamentally messed up with me. I felt like I was sinking and I'd take him with me. That if we got married, I'd drown even faster.
That everyone would see all the ways I wasn't good enough. They'd stop loving me. He'd really stop loving me. I'd be exposed as a fraud and a failure.
I didn't know why will power and wanting to be - not lazy, crazy and stupid - were not enough. I tried so so very hard. I masked really well and dealt with being called silly, ditsy, emotional and fucked in the head. But people still liked me.
I just knew deep down that I couldn't keep the plates spinning if we got married.
      I didn't know why I was how I was.
My expectations for myself, marriage and other people were not very realistic either in hindsight. I didn't understand intimacy or growing up together. Being a team or vulnerability.
      So I ran.
It took me years to get comfortable in my skin. But when I did.
When I met a man who understood anxiety and dealt with my ADHD issues. Who said only one of us gets to be crazy at a time but it's okay to be not be okay - WOW.
It was Princess Bride type of love.
We weren't perfect but we were perfect together.
I just wish it could have lasted longer. But I wouldn't change it.

That's cool- I too didn't look into Taylor's full discography until Folklore, Evermore and Reputation (especially the Netflix tour version), but am kinda obsessed with her songs now.
It looks like during the whole first verse, you were thinking "uh oh...this isn't gonna go well..."! You were right- with your analysis @3.44!
You look shocked, confused, and oh so sad! Aww.
I guess like she said, sometimes you just don't know /or are so deep in denial, not meaning to cause pain to someone else, but I guess if you're looking at it from another perspective- at least it's better to break his heart now, rather than pretending and delaying it, getting more resentful and bitter, until the youthful age has passed and you end up with a messy divorce right? It's weird in the sense, that in 2023, there are so many break ups or divorces within the industry right now. HOW DID SHE KNOW THIS ALL BACK IN 2020? OK, I'm kidding about the last bit, but Ariana Grande, is getting divorced, her co-star that she cheated with (who has a small child), is definitely getting divorced, Joe Mangianello and Sofia Vergara, Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner, Taylor and Joe Alwyn...🥺.
There are a couple of fun songs.
I would love for you to react to "No body, no crime", (great storytelling and less depressing), "Cowboy like me", and the bonus track, "It's time to go." If you haven't already. Oh and "Ivy." Thanks for the video, and don't be sad for long!
