    • @scottloar
      @scottloar Před 7 měsíci

      The collapse of the USSR prompted privatisation of former state enterprises by a select few who became the oligarchs. It was piracy. I absolutely favor a free market economy which fosters entrepreneurs, but simply transferring a state enterprise and its assets to private hands encourages cronyism.

    The problem sounds like cronyism and government intervention of bailouts. not privatization. Privatization can only be efficient under free market conditions where there is real free and fair competition. Every critic of privatization here to me is more of a critic of state cronyism and intervention (bailouts). The answer isnt more state control which will require a philosopher king like the late Lee Kuan Yew but smaller government, lower taxes and ACTUAL free markets. IMHO.

    • @JohnHuoVUCA
      @JohnHuoVUCA Před 8 měsíci +3

      @Kitsune101, I am aligned with your thoughts. However, that's quite a tall order to implement based on a fluid democratic system without a long mandate. Case in point, China allowed free market economics to run in special economic zones before rolling it out country-wide after the system proved successful. But, they had centralized and absolute political control without seeking a mandate every 5 years where populist moves prevailed over long-term implementation and mostly painful gestation periods. If we had just continued with the GST system in Malaysia today, our tax base would have been broadened and collected double that of the SST.

    • @Kitsune101
      @Kitsune101 Před 8 měsíci

      @@JohnHuoVUCA Yea, same problem every democratic system have. I think the only way is to create a constitution that firstly MUST always protect individual rights and properties. And every law and policy must always be made with that in mind. And the first rule of individual rights must never be broken, ie, no new government can change this clause in the constitutions. Then you slowly start cutting the size of the government. Empower local government to make decisions by themselves, state only need to intervene if local is violating ppls property rights or stealing, etc. Smaller government will also mean less taxes needed = less project run by government (except for police and military) = less money stolen. That couple with a free market, let the ppl keep their production which will incentivize them to be more productive. Thats a start. Its certainly possible, but i do not see any political will. There first need to be a cultural shift by the citizens, if not politician have no reason to change.

    • @mahidonpromwichit3618
      @mahidonpromwichit3618 Před 8 měsíci

      My thoughts exactly. Privitisation only works when there are competition. What we & UK had was a privitised monopoly which obviously is not efficient. We should embrace free market and let it run its course.

    Jomo talked for Malaysia and Malaysian whereas the interviewer is clearly talking about and for the Klang Valley. Sadly successive governments starting from Mahatir including Anwar only rule for the Klang Valley. Until the government and opinion makers realise there is more to Malaysia than the Klang Valley and tap the potential, Malaysia will never achieve first world status. Successful nations like Japan, Taiwan, China have multiple centres of economic activities, vis a vis, Tokyo, Osaka and Taipei, Kaoshiung, etc. Any talk about Malaysia, economy, tourism, public transport, infrastructure development has only been about the Klang Valley. Until Malaysian and government of the Klang Valley realise that there is more to Malaysia than the Klang Valley, Malaysia will never achieve her potential.

    Msia are in dire needs of leaders to snag High Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) to epitomise the nation economic activities in the post C-19.
    Msia is encumbered with an inherited debts goosebumps at RM1.5 trillion.
    The Unity Govt's fiscal policy had commingled with the Capital Market, DDI and FDI to hassock the Govt liabilities.
    The Msian financial ecosystem is solvent spearheaded by BNM and it will not become easily swayed by the Fed's action to hike the OPR which is currently at 5.5% and Msia's OPR stood at 3.0% which had spawned the Ringgit votality.

    czcams.com/video/XJwnLPFj9-0/video.htmlsi=PQaPLP3bsvt5mrFu&t=940 (15:40 mins). Did Jomo just said Dr. M admitted to cronyism? isnt that a crime? To give companies related to HIS party contracts to bail them out is literally what cronyism and corruption is. Would appreciate if anyone can link something that show Dr M admitting to this. thanks.
