This is the most inspiring thing I've ever seen. One guy in a garage, an hour in after effects, and you created a shot you could slip right into Blade Runner.
Glad you liked it! ;)
@@sliceoflifefilm >>> Definitely impressive! 👍👍
@@sliceoflifefilmyou’re talking so fast I’m having trouble keeping up I’m trying to learn here! 🤣 jk awesome job! 🤩
There is not enough likes to like this video this is the most amazing tutorial to make a movie scene
31:26 "And nobody will ever see them" perfectly describes visual effects completely.
haha, yes...
I felt it soo deep in my heart. Ye, that's true
I dissagree. Even if most people dont actually notice most small details it still makes the shot subconciously much more convincing.
I always told my clients nobody will see the details unless they're not there.
@@derPetunientopf yes! the fine details are only noticed in their absence.
You taught me more about how movies are made in 30mins than the rest of the internet has in 20 years.
Haha, thanks!!!
More than i learnt at móvie university
That's just sad.
This is exactly how old-school special effects and miniatures guys used to make models and effects for big budget movies - nothing too fancy, just lots of various junk from everyday life and bucket-loads of creativity.
Kinda, yeah. But before CGI, people also worked with photo film instead of After Effects.
Don’t forget optical printers! (Argggghhhh i hated working with them)
@Writer B.L. Alley Really? Wow!
Yep. Almost all models in Star Wars are kit bash models. Same thing with original Blade Runner.
@Jason Lee Barnett Oh, I agree! In-camera over CGI any day!
Two and a half years of film school in less than 35 minutes. Well done!
that's good to know, i got no training and do similar things for fun, have done all my life in fact.
that wasn't meant to detract from this talented guy obviously, i am not a pro!
Massive Blade Runner fan, this shot is better than most CGI shots these days, it feels so real, I always thought digital and practical effects would gel together, I hope there is a resurgence of practice and miniature effects in the future.
Thanks for making this 😍
Calling this fascinating would be a complete understatement!
A comment like this makes us proud! ;)
"It's little stories like that, that you want to tell, but no one will ever see them." Hilarious! This is superb and I appreciate the attention and love that was put into this. Too cool, sir. Too cool.
haha thank you. yea I always feel like that when I work on details , who's gonna see that=?? :D
Yo my Cajun brother. I'm in lake Charles lol
This is what is meant do be FILMMAKING. you guys should open a "Miniature Film-making Company". MfC. Just like ILM for cgi.
Luka Hrgovic's One Day Builds: Blade Runner Buildings :D
Hahah... Sounds familiar! :D
Im obsessed with you guys! So innovative and brilliant! This is the POWER of imagination, dreams, determination. Most people complain about not having the right material, actors, money... doesn't matter.... just DO IT! There is always a way if you have the passion and imagination for it! Phenomenal job!
Ah yes!! We also go by the immortal words of Shia! JUST DO IT! ;)
czcams.com/video/ZXsQAXx_ao0/video.html
I edit my original comment and ending this inconsequential thread. Acting does matter and a lot. Bad vfx are tolerable, bad acting no. Second, equipment show in these video exceed the pay check of one year of salary of many actors in the world. Then, money matter to. VFX are not made of good will and are very expensive. There are nothing in this video that show lack or constrain of resources. Use of recycle materials are really common in many artistic disciplines. Last, obsessive youtubers are always suckers. Have a nice day.
@@pubdigitalix I believe what @mrKWJones meant was that not having actors (and other stuff) should not be used as an excuse. Of course acting matters but it should NOT prevent you from creating something.
@@pubdigitalix I think your getting your knickers in a twist based on a misunderstanding… The poster meant that you CAN produce SOMETHING whether or not you think you lack the means. Ingenuity, will and action will prevail whatever your means.
His comment is all about positivity. Can't say the same about yours. We all know not everyone is blessed with the same opportunities...
This is hugely inspiring. Thank you for keeping the magic of cinema alive and being willing to share all your secrets gained through what was clearly hours upon hours of hard work and trial and error. Might have to make my own miniature city now.
YES, you definitely should!!! :D Thanks man! ;)
it really is isn't it, a dabbled all my life but now i am sat here thinking of upping my game now! i also collect interesting packaging, it's like ocd, then one day i make something and realise why i kept it! also, yes, mate do it, make one, post a video if you want, i will watch!
@@jibicusmaximus4827 I did in fact make a miniature for my film The Abduction of Nancy Watkins that you can find here on CZcams. It’s not a miniature city but was still some fun!
"We're going to do another fog pass where we create a rain effect!"
CZcams upload compression: "Nuh"
hahaaha, very true... You have to use your imagination with that one! :D
Wow! One day I want to give this a go.
Lloyd, you're a legend!
Has Ridley Scott seen this film using old school techniques?! I’m sure he would be impressed! 😍
"I don't even know what this is, but it looks useful."
The mantra of every physical effects artist.
That and 'now it looks interesting'. It works for them though. After watching these diaries and the short film itself, youtube sent similar recommendations my way. I have seen bigger, independent film making blogs and professional as they may be, they very often ignore the 'now it looks interesting' bit! These Croatian guys really have something special going on!
If I was a filmmaker on a budget, I am hiring that dude
If you are a film maker on a budget you have to trick that guy to work for you for free, or other types of compensation that don't involve actual payment, like cheap hookers or if you're really broke, hand lotion.
@@pakde8002 genius
Please enlighten me when you mean a budget 😢
This is how it should be done! Real filmmaking!
Thanks a lot Richard!
Flying car: "What the hell man, you're too close." Lmao! Phenomenal job Bro!
Yeah, this video had EVERY element of a great video, humour & good communication included!
The true genius here is how such simple concepts were combined to make this beautiful throwback. There is a bright mind behind this
This is without a doubt, the most fascinating video I've seen on CZcams. Thanks so much for posting it. Really inspirational stuff!
I just finished my writing. I had a crazy realization that I could 3D print my landscapes and buildings, etc. AND THEN I find this video.
Phenomenal. I’m gonna go watch the movie now. Just absolutely opened up more creative avenues of approach
Glad to hear that!
Just pure eyegasm watching all of this miniature effects, its good to have you all back again
“This video tutorial, whatever it is”. Love it.
This video is a master class of vfx, miniatures (art's department), compositing and direction of photografy in one, thanks guys
Haha, glad you liked it!!
Dear Friend!!!
Well… WON-DER-FUL!
I am still blown away by the LOVE you put into this!
You..(and i mean this serious)… should send it to Sir Ridly Scott‘s Company RSAFilms.
He‘s always interessted in fresh Ideas… even if they‘re done with classic Techniques.
And of course: he WILL BE happy to see…how his Masterpiece still inspires young Filmmakers.
I am 65… studied Photo-Film-Design in Dortmund/Germany… back in 1980.
And i get a grin on my face… to see sooo much similarities in the making, even 40 Years later.
Of course… we… had NO Aftereffects back then.
Finally:
Many, many THANKS for showing me, showing US… what you did HERE!
Last, but not least:
Where the hell can i get a „Splice of Life“-T-Shirt?
Greetz from Germany,
Reinhard
I don't know in what playlist to put this, because the gist of it can be used for ANY visual art form where you need to make props from scratch.
Amazing.
Never worked on post production so I'm getting quite an education.
I was with you through the model building, painting, lighting, photography, etc. Thinking, "yeah, I could do that!" Then you started compositing and playing around with all those different little controls at lighting speed and … no, I don't think I could ever hope to do that. I mean, I bet I could learn the software enough in a couple years to do that one shot with a couple weeks of endless frustration, but not with that fluency and casual ease. Yikes! Great work.
Haha thanks! Well, to be honest this video is sped up at some points to flow better. I'm definitely not that fast in real life, and if you really do learn the software for a year or two you'll be able to get great results. If you really want to learn AE head over to Video Copilot page and learn from his tutorials. You'll be the master by the end! ;)
Not a single dislike. This is very tough especially for a video that has almost 14K views. WOW. That just shows you the quality of the work you guys have. Very, very, very impressive!
oh wow, didn't realize that, haha! Thanks a lot!! ;)
Fuck I jinxed them lol
It's criminal you don't have more subscribers man.
Production Diary is LEGIT, that is better than my cinematography classes ever were.
Well f***ing done boys!
Haha same here man! Learned so much on this film!
"Hope You Learned Something" I learned a ton of info.
Using the Cardboard box as the start, was new to me.
You made it look easy, I love the practical over CGI built environment.
Looks far, far better than CGI
I thought I was the only one who looked at random objects and imagine what that could be converted. Thanks for inspiring this ol hillbilly.
You are very welcome!
This is incredible, the knowledge I've gained from this half-hour video is amazing. Concise, clear, you show us the important stuff without rambling on and on, so well done. I am in the process of starting my CZcams endeavor, making short films (VERY short) of miniatures in scenes and settings, using gaming minis and terrain that I make and paint, to tell quick stories in a series. The info here has been most helpful, thank you all for making this.
Good luck with your projects ;)
This all is just fascinating, you are great guys for such a nice, simple, but still great looking work!!!
Guy just dropped a master class....best on youtube by far
I was studying this for the last 5 years, why is this better presented than all my lections combined ?
Thanks a lot!
I absolutely love your work! You guys inspired me do build some miniatures myself. The moment it gets sprayed grey is so satisfying. I could watch your videos all day long if I haven't had a thousand fibre optic cables to install as lights inside of the miniatures, lol.
Haha, yes primer is the best part! Good luck with fibre optics! Patient you must be! ;)
Beautifully done! You let the good work, the process, and your clear description be the star of this feature without any gimmicks. I used to teach this content at a film school, and this was a real pleasure to watch. Congratulations to the whole crew.
Thank you very much Dan! Glad you liked it! ;)
❤️this is what i call passionate filmmaking
As someone who in later years has decided to turn his artistic (painting) craft towards making a film based on his paintings this has been one o& the most informative videos I have yet seen to date... I think I will be watching this often, mining it for every gem in it! Thank you 🙏
Thank you Sean, good luck with your project!
Amazing!!!
Also, keep posting more!
This was wonderful. You've revamped my filmmaking spirit. Thank you guys for bringing us along the way and teaching us how you created this beauty.
Our pleasure! Thank you for taking the journey with us! ;)
vfx + special effects = deadly combo
That software is insane. So powerful.
Thank you so, so much for your release of the film (just watched, a few times, ha ha) and for this tutorial. A most informative and well explained outlay of talent.
I have been following you for so many years now, and tonight was such a wonderful culmination, unexpected as well. I am sure you have created an entire generation of budding creators with your videos these past years, the love and energy of your work is palpable, and inspires. I cannot wait to see future work, you make the world a better place to be.
Daaamn man! We're getting all teary-eyed here! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Mogao bi ovo gledati danima, Luka jel ti se da napravit ovakvu emisiju? Svaka emisija drugi kadar :D
HAhaah, dobra ideja! :D :D
That super glue/powder tip is worth 10 thumbs up alone! This is really informative and fun to watch.
Glad it was helpful! Its a lifesaver :D
I've never felt so unskilled in my life. This was amazing to see.
Awesome Luka! Very entertaining and engaging, as always! There are some great tips here, I look forward to using in my own work, thanks pal :D
You are welcome Russel!! Glad it was of help! ;)

AMAZING is there any info on what type of lens you used? I actually have a Black Magic Pocket 4K but only have a Meike 16mm lens for it
i have sent you an email regarding a proposal. please check and reply.
I just watched your film. Excellent!
wow man.... just watched the short film.... i love it, you should do more thinks like that, you are really really good the mix if miniatures and the practilcal effects, really one of the best looks that i saw for this kind of aesthetic, better than altered carbon or total recall 2012 for example.... saludos de argentina
Absolutely brilliant....I know a lot of artists i want to share this with....but I'm not sure if I should issue a "spoiler alert" and tell them they need to see the movie first. So i'm going to watch again for the third or fourth time and see if knowing this affects my viewing. P.S.;I put your flick right up there with"Orbit Ever After", and that's one of the best ever.
This might be the best video I've ever seen on youtube!
I literally can watch your videos over & over and still remain inspired
I open my trash can and it looks like a “miniature city” just as it is.
I waited for years to see the final product after I saw a preview, and I'm so blown away by what was accomplished. Truly inspiring and worth the wait! Seeing the process is worth the watch, and I'm excited to know what's next in line for your studio to tackle!
Love behind the scenes/making of films. Thanks!
Seriously one of the coolest videos on CZcams! You really have to appreciate the art editors have!
This is seriously one of the best videos on youtube. Perfection.
Fantastic work. Really enjoyed the way you explained everything. Bravo.
Makes you appreciate how much work goes into just a few seconds of a shot. Great stuff
Pure love! It's so encouraging to see someone doing his job with such dedication and passion. That is what we have to learn from this tutorial!
a single man sits in an empty theater clapping in the dark bravo ....stands up clapping BRAVO SIR
This is AMAZING and exactly what I've been searching for!
So great to see these techniques being used again. Model effects are still the best way to create shots like this . Awesome work!
The whole time while watching this video I was like "Wow what the hell, that's freaking amazing!" You are freaking talented!
This is incredible. I have been wanting to see a video like this for years. Thank you. Please keep making more! You are great artists.
So happy I finally got to the film! It's absolutely stunning and love all the practical work used to make this, truly inspiring to independent film makers. Keep up the awesome work and can't wait to see more in the future.
I thoroughly enjoyed the diaries, the final film, and seeing it all again with even more details. Great stuff guys, well done!
Absolutely amazing. Old school and modern techniques, unbelievable.
I really enjoy your amusing and insightful videos.
What a craftsmanship it takes for just a few seconds of film. Great work!
Very inspiring.
I'm not a technically knowledgeable person for this but I can say it is worth watching.
Wow! Amazing work! A glimpse into the world of miniatures. Lots of the work but the results were priceless.
I adored everything about this. It feels so magical and sincere like its the truest form of story telling, developing a really strong atmosphere through so much effort.
that's beyond any short film done these past few years! really all of this is practical effect, even the rain! amazing!!!
Stan Wilson has nothing on these guys. Love this channel leaned so much for stop motion movies I’m marking
I love miniature effects!
Randomly came across this video and the moment I saw "prašak za pecivo" I yelled "FELLOW CROATIAN!"
Awesome channel!
haha Prašak za pecivo povezuje ljude! :D
This is the best miniature tutorial I’ve found on CZcams and I’ve been searching for so long.
The creativity and dedication to this method is insane! Very inspiring.
Absolutely amazing work!!!!
I come back to this every now and then just to get inspired.
Amazing work guy!! Keep miniatures alive!!
