    I feel you on the wild caught part. My first reptile was my uro Oscar and he had an infection on his tail. I was lucky enough to have realized this instead of interpreting the two nubby spines on his tail as scars and ive had him for six years since!

      Yeah it sucks that so many are wild caught and are in rough shape but people are breeding more and more so it’s gonna change for sure

    I remember watching Clint’s reptiles video on Uromastyx and though I enjoy watching most of his videos the moment he said “they can live on bird seed “ it just didn’t seem right to me. Like just because they could doesn’t mean they should. Also that just seems unhealthy to have them have that much access to one type of food at all times. Glad you made a care guide for these lovely lizards and let’s hope that most people see this video and your other videos to properly take care of their Uromastyx and other pet reptiles they may own.

    I just got a rescue ornate Uro with a whole list of issues due to a poor set up, lack of care, and bad diet.
    He pooped a ton of half digested super worms, so i guess i know what they fed him. His nails are all over-grown with stuck shed around his toes, and some of his toes look like they had broken at some point. 🥺
    He's also got clogged pores. 🥺
    Over all, the poor guy needs a lot of TLC. Any tips to help get him feeling better? I've clipped his nails back as much as I could. I gave him a warm shallow soak to loosen up some of the stuck shed and got a lot off his toes and tail. But the pores are really stuck and don’t want to come loose.

    • @ChiefSweetsUniverse
      @ChiefSweetsUniverse  Před rokem +1

      Got ya. Male ornates do have pores that have waxy build up so it’s normal if it’s coming out of his pores but if it’s swollen around his pores then that’s when you know it’s clogged, but if it’s just wax sticking out of pores that’s pretty normal. However stuck shed only way to help with that is some bathing and soaks. Half digested super worm’s definitely sounds like a problem. Put him on some high heat 125f basking. Air temp 90/95f on the hot side. Give romaine lettuce for hydration and collard, mustard, turnip, dandelion greens, spring mix with spinach removed. Also might get him a vet visit for parasites. And are legal the way they do it. But then they say this on the page for the Uromastyxs (Here are our available uromastyx for sale, both captive bred and imported. These fascinating lizards are also called spiny-tailed agamas, dabb lizards, and mastigures. The various species are primarily herbivorous, and all are sun-loving. If it was new born it could be in it for around 6 months but they grow fast. And they love to run around like crazy. For on top of a 18 inch tall enclosure like a exo terra a 14% will do good. May have to use two 75 watt bulbs. Or a 100 watt bulb and a 50 watt to achieve desired temps. It’s really hard to do in a 40 gallon

    So I got my uro about a week ago and you and the bloke selling me it has very conflicting ideas. Here is a list of everything he told me:
    35 for basking spot
    1-2 hides a water bowl that is larger than my uro
    Feed it rocket
    Tank thankfully is 120
    Also he said my substrate made it so I didn’t need to use calcium powder, I threw out the bag and can’t remember what it’s called.

    • @ChiefSweetsUniverse
      @ChiefSweetsUniverse  Před rokem

      For sure basking spot needs to be way hotter. This is extremely common knowledge that every uro keeper knows. Water bowl does not need to be that big but I guess it doesn’t hurt tbh so you can if ya want. By using substrate and not needing calcium powder are you using calcium sand? Definitely don’t use that as it’s horrible substrate. Basking spot needs to be around 48c-54c. Air temp can be 35c on the hit side. But the basking spot for sure needs to be hotter.

      That’s not really true. It all depends on the species. U. Geyri are mostly imported because the countries they’re native to don’t have a lot of regulations. Other species (like my Moroccan for example) aren’t allowed to be exported so breeders are able to make money without having to compete with cheap (and often sickly and parasite infested) imports.
      Dragontopia in North Carolina and Arids Only in Colorado are two great breeders in the US.
