Advantages that starting later in life can have 06:35
My own experience as a working artist 08:17
    Closing thoughts + Advice 14:02
In this episode, I talk about a common struggle I hear about from lots of people wanting to get started with art, and even artists who are farther ahead.
They feel too old to "become" artists or to truly jump into their journeys with both feet.
    Like they lost their chance.
Like they're behind and will never be able to reach a higher skill level. 😔
🌟 I explain why there is no such thing as being "too late" when it comes to starting an art journey, and I provide lots of examples of famous artists who started or created their best work later in their lives.
I also share a bit about my own experience as someone who started much later compared to lots of artists on social media, as well as some advantages that you have over younger people that you might not have thought of.
Hope you enjoy this one and find it super helpful! 💙

Thank you! I’m 69, and had always put my love of painting on the back-burner. It’s now my refuge and antidepressant now that I’ve retired from school teaching. Painting (or any kind of art!) is a wonderful way to let your light shine.

Hello! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment here. 🙌💙 I'm so happy to hear that your art practice is providing such positive things. You're so right! Art in general is a great way to express oneself and to uncover/develop all of these things that make us ourselves. There's nothing like it! đŸ˜ŠđŸ–Œïž Wish you a great day.

That you so much for sharing your thoughts. As someone in their 40s I’m finally starting to realize how necessary it is to take my dreams and interests to heart. Your words are very motivating and I enjoyed watching your painting process as well!

Hey, Rachel! Thanks so much for watching and for taking time to leave a comment. It means the world. 💙🙌 I'm glad this one was helpful. You're still young and have SO much time to take your skills forward and to bring whatever your heart is telling you to create, into the world. You have those interests and dreams for a reason. Don't ignore them!

Hello Erika, Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts and talent in this video! Your painting is beautiful! And everything you shared struck a strong, loud chord in me! I discovered watercolor during Covid Lockdown and was immediately obsessed! I've never thought myself a creative person, especially in art, but somehow watercolor had me at "hello!" I love finding new tutorials and learning new techniques! I just found you and subscribed right away! This is an example of "negative painting", right? But most of all, for me, I love the zone I enter into while I'm painting! It has been the best support system and therapy for me over the last 4 years! I just retired a year ago, and I just turned 70! At this point, I'm not sure if I ever want to do any kind of sales or commissions, possibly illustration. But I really haven't looked into it enough to say. I'm still enjoying the process so much! And I am going to enjoy watching your other videos!

Hey, there! Thanks so much for watching and for taking time to share your experience here. 💙🙌 I'm so glad that you've taken up your art practice and that you've stayed consistent over these last 4 years! Congratulations on your retirement. 🎉🎉 It is now time for YOU! Yep! This is a type of negative painting (negative painting is so helpful when painting white flowers or objects with this medium). Smart observation! I cat totally relate to being obsessed with watercolor. heh It makes me so happy to hear that you're getting a lot from your art practice. Keep going and let us know how things progress for you!

I retired and devoted my free time to art. Thanks for the encouragement to all people - it's never too late. I was wondering if you thought about where your light source was for the background? I see it in the flowers.

Hey, Gayle! Hope you're having a lovely day. 🙌💙 You're very welcome. You're right! It's never too late. To answer your question, in the reference photo it looks like it was around midday, when the sun is up highest in the sky. So it was hitting these flowers almost from directly above them. This said, when it comes to flowers, they are all facing slightly toward different directions and I was mostly focusing on communicating the overlapping petals through my values. 😁 Hope this makes sense! Full tutorial is available on Patreon. đŸ˜‰đŸ–Œïž Thanks so much for watching.

I’m disabled with severe epilepsy and I am doing my best as a psychologist. I make have very little money. I’m working on art almost daily. I might start selling when I get better after my brain surgery in a couple months. It’s very therapeutic too!

New subscriber here! Hi! I'm 49 and I love creating! But have that rat race jobbie. Love this video! Made me cry. Thanks for the motivation to keep on creating. If I ever win the lottery my dream is to just create and have a place where people want to create. And thrift and maybe a Cafe. Lol. It's a dream 😁
